A Tipsy Tenth Dining Adventure - Completed 9/28

Oh my those race costumes are brilliant! How very kind of Casey to accompany her dad and allow him to strut his regal stuff in the 5k!:rotfl:
Wasn't that nice of her :-) He claims he does it for her but I think we all know better.

e always managed to do that with our middle child but the eldest was all about a party! Usually with half the class and a few random people she “thought would enjoy it” :scared1: Kind and all as that was, it used to freak me out that she could never remember how many poor random souls she’d asked lol
Oh if I let her do it that would be my little social butterfly. Thankfully before this year she's been content with just family coming over but I don't think that is going to last. Unless I can keep plying her with Disney!

hankfully number 3 only ever wanted a football ( soccer) party which meant his dad and brother had the joy of refereeing the kids while I took the lazy way out and ran to Burger King for kids meals all round and threw a big enough chocolate cake on the table to satisfy the lot of them!
Now that is the kid I need!!!!

She’s still got the shakey, shakey, shakes

After our dole whips we headed out to make our way to Ft. Wilderness and Casey’s birthday request: Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue!

We had some time before our reservation though so we made time for my non-birthday request: ALCOHOL!

We took a detour to Wilderness Lodge and headed over to Geyser Point. With a half empty restaurant they told us it would be 30 minutes to get a seat so we just ordered at the bar and sat at one of the tables by the pool.

Continuing her shakiness from The Plaza, Casey dropped her Sprite while we were heading out of the restaurant. Thankfully there was a cast member there to help us clean it up, but she had me on cup guardian duty for the rest of the trip.

D'oh!

For those of us capable of hanging onto our drinks, Jason got an Elysian Space Dust IPA.

R2 got a margarita, D2 got something blue I can’t seem to find on the menu (I stay far, far away from blue drinks), and I went for the Black Cherry Mule.

I didn’t pick up any cherry flavor in the mule, but it was a decent one with a good amount of heat from the ginger.

After a second round we headed out and loaded onto a boat for Ft. Wilderness and waited and waited and waited…. For reasons even the captain didn’t seem to understand he said he’d been radio’d not to leave and we had to get off the boat. We ended up having to go to the Contemporary and then Ft. Wilderness. We arrived about 15 minutes late, but thankfully people were still piling in so it wasn’t too bad.

I had originally booked us a Tier 1 table but couldn’t add a 5th person when D2 decided to join in, so we ended up in Tier 2 in the balcony. The seats had a good view, but we definitely missed being right in the action.

For those unfamiliar with Hoop-Dee-Doo, the meal is served family style throughout the show.

We started with some delicious corn bread and butter (which was too cold to spread #PetPeeve) and a salad.

I refrained from salad, full on my vegetable count from lunch.

Someone else did not

We of course also got a few adult beverages. R2D2 started off with Sangria

And Jason and I went straight to the pitchers of Yuengling

Cause the best part of the show is unlimited beer!!!!:drinking1

We enjoyed the first part of the show and then it was time for the main stuff.

We had fried chicken

While this, and most of the main courses were not very hot, the chicken was delicious. Crispy. Moist. What else does a girl need?

Ribs

While this appears to be an "after" shot, the ribs were very tender and well cooked with a slight char on the outside, which I love. The bbq sauce was a bit too sweet baby rays for my liking, but that of course did not stop me from eating 3.

Mashed Potatoes (with one lone piece of corn)

Cause you needed a picture to know what they looked like :P Mashed potatoes are my favorite comfort (aka day after tipsy) food and these were creamy yet had nice chunks of potatoes. I had quite a few rounds.

Corn

After a misguided summer 20+ years ago when my mother made corn every single day for dinner, I no longer eat this stuff. But I’m gonna vote it tasted like corn.

And baked beans

These suffered slightly from the same sweet bbq sauce, but had big chunks of pork and were very good.

Yum!

Somewhere along the way our waitress also randomly brought Casey some mac and cheese.

I gather this is for kiddos that don’t have the refined palate of Casey :P She was unimpressed and stuck to the ribs.

Birthday girl was a happy camper which in her world equates to getting her food model on!

And she got singled out for her birthday by Six Bits so she was officially a Hoop Dee Doo celebrity.

Between the beer and the food I was too full for dessert but everyone else seemed to enjoy the Strawberry Shortcake.

Overall, everyone loved dinner. Casey declared the ribs the best but said she liked everything. As far as the show its pure camp and nostalgia but even the non-Disneyphiles R2D2 had a great time.

To get back to Shades we ended up using Lyft for a Minnie Van since it could come down to where Hoop was. There was some confusion as to where to meet him, but after an excursion through the stables....

.....we found the spot

Our driver was awesome!!! And per my notes he told us stories of the history of Minnie vans and doing crowd control at MK. After more than a few beers and some wine back in the room I recall none of that now but I’m sure it was exhilarating.

Up next, my Disney home away from home

One can never go wrong with Ribs, Fried Chicken and Yuengling :drinking1. HDDR is one of the places on my to do list along with Trail's End.

The food looks fantastic! I've been wondering about HDDR and trying to decide whether it would be something we would enjoy. So glad to see your review. I think we will check it out!

Awesome picture of the new 8 year old!

Mmmmm! Unlimited bevvies AND strawberry shortcake.....I'm in!

I am so happy to read your review as I booked HDDR for Bill and I on our last night. I can hardly wait to experience it for myself. :)

 Her palate is more refined than most adults I know :rotfl2:Ya done good with that one! :thumbsup2

No doubt :rotfl:

Kari, have a wonderful time at EPIC girls weekend! I'm SO bummed I'm not there... I trust you'll have a few drinks and laughs for me though :drinking1 ;)

Lovee Hoop! It's one of our must-dos for almost every trip. I always want it to be my birthday when we're there so I can raise my hand when they ask :rotfl2::rotfl2:

I wonder if they'd give me mac and cheese if I ask, even without children. I could live on mac and cheese!

Yay booze! Glad Casey is young so her drink spilling ways aren’t too sad since no alcohol is wasted.

Hoop-dee-do looks like a ton of fun for your group! I haven’t been since middle school so 20 yearsish but I should probably fix that one of these days. We are debating a weekend in the cabins since they allow dogs now & that might be a good option. The fried chicken and ribs look delicious and who doesn’t love unlimited booze!

I haven’t been to Hoop since I was a kid, which is a loooong time ago. I may have to give it a try. Although I am not an audience participation kinda gal (I would have anxiety if I thought I’d get singled out for anything) so maybe the Tier 2 would be a better choice for me. I’m all about fried chicken, mashed potatoes and unlimited beer! Happy birthday to Casey!! Everyone looks like they had a great time!!

Looks like everyone had a great night at Hoop de doo and the food looks pretty decent into the bargain. I reckon I could persuade my 21 year old to go with the lure of fried chicken and sangria, which he discovered last year holidaying on a budget (in other words without parents to pay lol). Not sure about the husband though but I’d enjoy the craic.
Love that Casey got to star in the show. She’s such a wee character :goodvibes
Can’t believe you spilt her milkshake all over that poor woman and then the sprite went for the floor and all before the unlimited free beer and sangria!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Let’s face it 8 years have the best logic!! I must remember that it’s best to blame someone else the next time I knock something ( not wine- never ever wine!!) over :rotfl2::thumbsup2

Love these hands! How cute! I haven't made it over to this restaurant yet, so it's fun reading about it. It seems like a fun show, but I'm not big on BBQ so not sure when we will make it over there.

The mashed potatoes and beans look really good though.

I mean unlimited beer!!! I def want to check out HDR! The food seems fine and the show seems good.

Now I think we need a count home many drinks does Casey spill? But how many does she spill that actual matter, soda whatever beer we have a problem!

Who would have thought that it would have been so hard to get to HDDR from the WL. Drinks at Geyser Point sounded like a great plan. :)

Hi everyone. I forgot to post in my last update but I am headed to Disney TOMORROW!!!! I'm rollin down solo (and lying to Casey about where I'm going) so I can hang with some of the most EPIC Disboards ladies ever. Let the tipsy times roll!!!!

One can never go wrong with Ribs, Fried Chicken and Yuengling :drinking1. HDDR is one of the places on my to do list along with Trail's End.
You got that right!!! If you haven't been you most definitely should. We enjoyed Trails End too but Hoop is an adventure that should not be missed!

The food looks fantastic! I've been wondering about HDDR and trying to decide whether it would be something we would enjoy. So glad to see your review. I think we will check it out!
I honestly cannot imagine anyone not enjoying this. From young to old the show is so enjoyable and pure camp in only the best of ways. And beer. Did I mention the unlimited beer. :drinking1

Awesome picture of the new 8 year old!
She preparing for her modeling career.

I am so happy to read your review as I booked HDDR for Bill and I on our last night. I can hardly wait to experience it for myself. :)
You guys are so gonna love it. That would certainly be one of the places I'd wanna go for my anniversary.

 Her palate is more refined than most adults I know :rotfl2:Ya done good with that one! :thumbsup2
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I'm still not sure if we did anything or if she just came out like that but when I see all the plain pasta and chicken fingers eating kids out there I know how lucky we are!

Kari, have a wonderful time at EPIC girls weekend! I'm SO bummed I'm not there... I trust you'll have a few drinks and laughs for me though :drinking1 ;)
Thank you Tracy. I'll be sure to drink for both of us though you will be missed tremendously :grouphug:

I think Casey was the only kid in there celebrating her birthday, but i also think Casey is the only 8 year old with the soul of an 80 year old. But regardless of age there is no better place to spend a birthday.

I thought it was odd they just brought the mac and cheese, but I'm sure you could ask for it. But beware this one definitely tasted like the powdered cheese variety.

Yay booze! Glad Casey is young so her drink spilling ways aren’t too sad since no alcohol is wasted.
Great point!

A weekend int he cabins would be a great time to revisit. We really want to stay in the cabins sometime too, but the price (coupled with a golf cart) is just never right.

I haven’t been to Hoop since I was a kid, which is a loooong time ago. I may have to give it a try. You definitely need to go back and relive those kiddo days again. I'm not much for audience participation either and I think they are good at seeing who does and doesn't want to play along. Of course Casey would be on stage the whole time if they let her.

Looks like everyone had a great night at Hoop de doo and the food looks pretty decent into the bargain. It really is so corny I don't think anyone could resist the fun of it all. Its CRAIC for all (and if it isn't the beer and sangria should help)

Love that Casey got to star in the show. She’s such a wee character :goodvibes
Wee character is an understatement. Clearly she is her fathers daughter

Can’t believe you spilt her milkshake all over that poor woman and then the sprite went for the floor and all before the unlimited free beer and sangria!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Let’s face it 8 years have the best logic!! I know right, the nerve of me? When will I stick to spilling my own drink and not hers.

Love these hands! How cute! I haven't made it over to this restaurant yet, so it's fun reading about it. It seems like a fun show, but I'm not big on BBQ so not sure when we will make it over there.

Even if you aren't big on bbq between the chicken and the sides you should be good. I have a feeling you and the hubby would enjoy it!

I mean unlimited beer!!! I def want to check out HDR! The food seems fine and the show seems good.

Now I think we need a count home many drinks does Casey spill? But how many does she spill that actual matter, soda whatever beer we have a problem!
I think you said it perfectly. Fine food, good show, UNLIMITED BEER!!!! :drinking1 Good news is the slippery fingers were only with us on this one day so we'll chalk it up to the early start.

The food looks delicious, how does the fried chicken compare to 50s fried chicken?
I haven't had 50's in so long I really don't remember, but I'd venture to say its on par. But neither is as good as Homecoming!

Who would have thought that it would have been so hard to get to HDDR from the WL. Drinks at Geyser Point sounded like a great plan. :)
I know, right??? Definitely nothing we were expecting but at least we finally made it.

Have an absolutely fabulous time, as I am sure you will! I will be living vicariously through all the reports, so wish I was there with you all! :)

I just love Geyser Point. My cousin and I had a girls' trip for my birthday and it was the calm in the storm after a crazy MK morning. Before that, DH and I convinced the kids to look around WL before our Trail's End dinner. A drink at Territory Lounge, a drink or two at Geyser Point, then after we got to the Fort the sky opened up and drowned everyone for hours. DH and I were like hippies, enjoying the cool breeze in June ;) At least, for the first half hour of waiting for a table and before making a soaking wet run for the outhouse!

I really enjoy your reports. I booked on a whim when free dining was offered in Aug by Visa and am contemplating trying to take pics and notes for my first report. I've never used the DDP. Now that a decent beverage can be had I'm not dreading it and imagine my notes will be similar to those in your previous trip! Unfortunately, I find myself looking to maximize the freeness! I have 3 buffets scheduled for the kids and I (DH will stay home and sane). Unless it's The Wave or CG, I'm really not interested. Who am I and where are the $7 snacks?!? I think I just found my title.

Looking forward to your updates!

Glad to know I wasn't the only person who couldn't find the Minnie Van pickup location without ease! Why oh why don't they have it in a better and more well-lit location. Or at the least, a little signage would go a long way.
