I could tell you it’s Rakuten, but I can’t be sure I’m saying it right!

:offtopic:

It’s so ridiculous! What was wrong with Ebates? It rhymes with rebates! I get that Rakuten bought Ebates a few years back, but why bother to change the name now? And then have to spend millions of dollars in tv and radio advertising to teach people how to pronounce the new name. No joke. Even then, I’m not sure the ads are pronouncing it right. Rakuten is a Japanese company, so the “r” sound rolls almost like an “l,” and you take each syllable at a time, so I think it’s supposed to sound something like “Rah-koo-ten,” but the ads make it sound like “Rack-you-ten.” :confused3

this is so true. not sure why all these companies feel they need to change names and then change them to things that just don't make sense to the general population. I haven't seen any new commercials just the same ebates commericals which really should't be running if they decided to change names.

That's right! I still see the old Ebates commercials too. If I didn't know any better, I'd be so confused!

That is similar to how they write it out on the site - RACK-uh-ten. Which is not melodic to the English language, Ebates is the clear winner in that fight. The Rah-koo-ten would be the easiest to convert, could probably convince people to use Rack - oo - ten instead, but Rack-uh-ten is awkward.

I get their thinking that they want new users to relate their larger company with the winning eBates concept, but eBates being around for so long you're just losing brand recognition. Even people who have never used the service before have either heard of it or understand the concept of it just based on the brand name. They'd do themselves a better service to stick with the "Ebates a Rakuten company" branding for a long while as they build better brand reputation/recognition here.

But what do I know, I don't get paid the big bucks so I must know nothing. (only that my privately held multi-million dollar company that had global brand recognition in our industry, completely bit the big one after we sold to a billion dollar company who wanted to break into our scene and they immediately changed our name. I may have mentioned before, my office closed, which had been the headquarters of said private company, after dropping into barely 6 figure revenues. :rolleyes1 The hasty name change was the opening salvo to other mismanagement issues but I hope for all of us this is the worst decision Rack-em-up makes in the transition.)

This all reminds me of another new commercial I've been seeing for VRBO. I always thought it was pronounced by saying each letter on its own but the commercial says vrrr-beau. Maybe because it's an app they are pushing instead of the website or maybe I just never realized you were supposed to say it out but it sounds ridiculous. Should we not call it Triple A any more and just say aaaaahhhh? I know it's an acronym but I thought VRBO was too.

I opened CIP #1 on 5/28/18. Is now a good time to cancel? I opened CIP #2 back in March and plan to use that to refer P2 for her own CIP #2.

I saw this recently too!! I think maybe it's some sort of rebranding. I've only ever heard it pronounced as each letter, though I don't know that I've ever seen advertising for it before.

Kennedy Space Center
Sam's $51.50
KSC Website $60 - $66 ($57+$3 tax+$6 fee, only one fee per order)

Just thought I'd quote myself here, in case anyone is thinking of doing KSC... we are looking at 2 day tickets for at least some people next month, and I confirmed we could upgrade to 2 day tickets in person. I will most likely buy these for everyone and then just upgrade those who want that to do a second day.

So Tickets:
Sam's $51.50
KSC Website $60 - $66 ($57+$3 tax+$6 fee, only one fee per order)
KSC 2 day ticket option 1 (multiday): $87.74 = $82+$5.74 tax (incl free parking the 2nd visit, parking is $10)
KSC 2 day ticket option 2 (apollopass): $80.25 = $75+$5.25 tax

Will probably see if we can upgrade to one multiday and others apollo pass since we will only have one car and that's really the only difference... Hoping it'd be something like
Buy 5 tickets from Sam's $51.50*5 = $257.50 (unless I'd decide to use URs, $51.84/3456pp - wait I did all this math and look at the UR portal cost!!)
Upgrade one to multiday ticket $87.74 - $60 (face value of Sam's ticket) = $27.74
Upgrade others to apollo pass $80.25 - $60 = $20.25pp

It would save ~$10pp plus no $6 online processing fee from KSC.

We're trying to decide if we should book a special interest upcharge tour ahead of time, since it's summer.

The VRBO commercials annoy the heck out of me. I've always said each letter and could swear I've always heard it pronounced this way. I cannot come to grips with saying "vrrrbeau". I just will not say it that way. It sounds like crazy talk to me! It's kind of like SUB - just can't get used to it. :rolleyes1

I did just see one of those commercials! And said "huh, really? that's not a thing" :sad2:

It was pronounced as V R B O, I guess they're trying to be hip now

@Lain - you sir are an animal on filling out that news thread! If you guys aren't using the DISchurners news thread to keep up with things, it is a GREAT Resource! Also, if anybody else wants to help be a part of keeping up with things there, another volunteer or 2 would be great! If you're interested, send me a PM and I'll walk through what we're doing there. @Lain and I have a good rhythm and seem to keep on the same page pretty well there!

@SouthFayetteFan, you sir are despicable -- harvesting valuable "likes" to pad your overwhelming lead by invoking my name and pointing out the good work that I do without asking for any recognition or likes. Now, how can I get a few of those likes off of you? :rotfl:

What other cards have you opened in the past 24 months?
9/18 Discover
10/18 BOA
12/18 Chase Sapphire
4/19 Chase Freedom

I was planning to apply for the CIP card, but I do not have $5000 in business expenses coming my way. Maybe like $300 in the next 90 days. How do you manage this when applying? I definitely have $5000 in personal expenses but not business.

I echo what @Lain said - give it a full 365 calendar days before you cancel just to keep things above board!

You can use it on any expense you wish - it doesn't just have to be biz expenses. My business doesn't have expenses period, lol - it just makes me cash money. I just put my groceries, cable bill, gas, etc. on the card and that's how I hit the MSR.

Does Barclays offer a [redacted] bonus like Chase? Sorry guys, new to this concept
No support links with Barclays - bummer, I know! Also - those are support links ;)
