Ok I'm going to ask this question but start with an apology...I'm having a hard time using search now, and I can't seem to pull up relevant info on this...I know I asked and was answered in the past but right now the changes are making it difficult to find..... Priority pass lounges at MCO. I will be arriving around 10 pm, and using ME next morning. Any chance I could use a PP lounge pass either later at night, or early am before getting bus? Looks like two clubs to choose from, the one on concourse4 B looks possible....or just don't bother?
After my recent experience there I would say don't even bother. It looks like they close around 10pm anyway and they require a boarding pass (not sure if it works upon arrival).

This thread is amazing. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped me already. What a nice group of people!!

Was hoping my new CIP would have arrived in the mail on Saturday, but alas, no such luck. Will check again when I wake up this afternoon.

Things to do when I get it:
  • Get online access and add it to my existing Chase login so I have one less place to log into
  • Start spending
  • Figure out how to get a referral link so that my husband can apply (no idea if he would be approved) but don't have him apply too soon or we won't hit the MSR for his
  • IF he gets approved, sounds like we have to wait to add me as an employee of his business (CFO, if you please!)
**When he is doing his application, if he applies as sole proprietor, will they give him a hard time about adding an employee?**

@Lain thanks for the even more detailed explanation of the points' worth. Had I been booking today I would have blithely just booked at the "lowest value" possible and then been sad later but now I am armed with knowledge! Thank you! I did take a peek at that Chase Sapphire (reserve??) that you mentioned but the $450 annual fee kinda freaked me out. That is right up there with an AMEX I was looking at the other day. Yikes! Maybe later when I am well and truly hooked on travel....

The $450 annual fee on the Chase Sapphire Reserve (CSR) is pretty eye popping. BUT $300 of it can be recouped with the easy to use travel credit. It resets on your anniversary. It's possible to use the credit twice, the second time right before you cancel or product change the card. If you did that, you would actually come out ahead by $150. This is not to mention that it also comes with Priority Pass (airport lounge access) and TSA/Global Entry credit if you wanted to apply for that.

It's a personal card though, so will add to your x/24 count. But no hurry, rack up some URs and then look into it as you're ready to do redemptions. :)

DH’s AmEx Bonvoy Biz 35k free night cert finally posted.

4/7- Annual fee posted
6/2- free night

54 lonGGG days....
Update on adding my 35k cert to an existing Marriott reservation. My cert was available as of today, so I went to my reservation, clicked "modify/edit" and was able to attach it to myself! Much quicker and less frustrating than calling and getting bonvoyed!
Dh got his SPG Biz free night cert today. Just 7.5 weeks past when the AF posted. Silly AMEX>
My AF posted 4/7 as well and the certificate showed up this morning.

Has anyone actually tested the crossover of applying for a Chase Marriott while holding an Amex branded card? "They" say you can't have both but is it policed, and if so, by whom?

Auto Approval for CIP 3 for DH! $5k limit.

Other CIPS:
5/18, $10.5k limit lowered to $3k 3/19
3/19, $9k limit, did not lower yet.

Will be closing the 5/18 one this month.

Catching up so not sure if asked. But were these all from SSN or was there a mix of SSN and EIN? Looking to go for #3 for both DH and I. (Will be closing #1 before I do that ). Had 1 with SSN and 1 with EIN for both of us. Just wondering which way to sign up?

You can be a sole proprietor and have employees, so no issue there. It doesn't mean you're a one man band, just that you are the sole owner of the business (no other partners or corporate structures to deal with).

For the CSR the $450 AF sounds scary but it has a $300 travel credit that's pretty easy to use and can offset the AF with expenses you'd usually pay anyway. At that point then it's only $55 more than the CSP and CIP AF's but you get the better redemption rates, GE or TSA PreCheck credit (just 1 every 4 years), and better travel insurance protections. If any of those things could be useful then it's a good card to pick up as it should justify the $150 price tag then. (It also comes with the Priority Pass lounge access and some status benefits but I don't put a price on those - for me it's not something I'd pay for anyway, others are different) But I would wait until you have some better ideas of using it before deciding. For us it made sense as I use the $300 travel credit on our monthly toll charges. We'd be paying that money anyway so what's the diff if I pay it to EZPass or pay it to Chase first and then get reimbursed? Anything that codes as Travel will get reimbursed unlike the AmEx credits which are for specific charges, and for most, if not all cards, are related to airline charges.

Does anyone have any thoughts about the Chase Marriott card compared to the Chase Hyatt card? My sense is that the value of the Marriott sign-up bonus as well as the value of the annual free night certificate is slightly better, but I'm really just guessing. If you were choosing one of these, which would you choose?

I think getting the Hyatt card first at the best offer is the best strategy. UR points transfer 1 to 1 to Hyatt. Of course all this is dependent on whether you have Hyatt hotels that you have identified as possible stays. Also the free night is category 4 or 15K points, which does cover quite a few Hyatt properties.

The AMEX Bonvoy cards give more possibilities as @Lain mentioned. The 50K per night Lux which is essentially a $150 free night certificate may also be more useful long term. It's pretty easy to redeem the $300 per night credit and sometimes it can be done in conjunction with an AMEX offer such as $40 of $200. The Chase offers are usually of less dollar value also. In addition if you get both Amex offers you will get a double stash of points.

The 35K per night certificate is not a bad value right now. But, as Marriott devalues and prices rise, I'm looking at getting more 50K certificates. I'm in it for the long term - my strategy might not suit all.

@PolyRob congratulations on the Plat! It is the one MR card I don’t have (I do have the Biz version). I have never been able to pull the 100 offer. Or even the 70. Right now I am ignoring it as an option since I think the reality is if I am going to get it I will have to just settle for the public offer. Maybe the public offer will go up...maybe.
Thank you!! I think the stars aligned and I got lucky. My first try with cardmatch and it popped up!

It's supposed to be Marriott policing it. There had been pop ups stating if you were eligible or not during the application process, even on the Chase side they added one so you'd know if you were wasting your time. Last I heard about it was around Feb/Mar as the SPG and Marriott Biz cards were being discontinued and people tried last ditch efforts. Haven't heard much since.

Chase cruises thru the portal....I'm a bit confused about how to find or book a cruise using Ur's.... since I can't find them viewable like, say,a hotel room, how do all you experts here find cruises in the portal? call and ask what's available? there's got to be a better way than that...
I do just like @miztressuz does, search out the cruise I want on the individual cruise line website, (usually NCL for me) book the exact cruise I want using a "CruiseNext" certificate as a deposit and then a week or two later call Chases Vacation and Cruise dept. and have the booking transferred to Chase. There are restrictions on how soon this needs to be done, check with your cruise line. During the call with Chase they will require full payment. If you don't have enough UR's they will ask for a Chase credit card for the remaining balance.

Good morning everyone.:) . Was gone all weekend again but I think I'm pretty caught up. It's a gorgeous day here in New York but feels like October, not June! I wanted to share something I read this morning for some of you newbies who may not know this but also for you vets who aren't as good at keeping spreadsheets as He and He 2 who shall not be named because it's not necessary. ;-) . I knew about Credit Karma and being able to track your 5/24 status but what I did NOT know is that there is an old interface that makes it way way easier to do that. So... if you're a tiny (just a tiny) bit scattered in your tracking of the great 5/24 status of your life, this is a great thing to know. I still like Lucky's blog - I know some may not agree - but I've learned a lot from him. Here's the link that tells you exactly how to do it. Make sure you click on the link for the old interface and click on "Open Date" twice to get the correct sort order. Have a happy week, all! How To Check Your 5/24 Status
I actually stumbled upon this old page of credit karma yesterday during my credit report fiasco. If you click on your score, then switch from credit factors to credit report, and then scroll to the bottom and click view past reports it will take you to that page! And you can look all the way back to when you signed up for an account with credit karma.

All SSNs. I have two with SSNs, 10/18 and 4/19. Thinking of trying for third with SSN next month.

Even though having/using an additional card isn't really a great idea for my husband (he doesn't pay in full every month :furious:), what if he could get approved for it and then just add me as an AU. Could I then spend on "his" account and he would still get UR for the money I spend? So I could use my shiny new CIP for 3 months (or however long it takes me to hit $5000) and then use HIS for the next 3 months/$5000 and then somewhere in there I could apply for a CIP2 for myself for the next 3 months/$5000.... all this without HIM spending on it? What do you think?
Can you get him to just set up the autopay and check the pay statement balance? That is the first thing I do when I/DH get a new card.

You can be a AU/Employee with his business cards but then you still need to manage payment through his login and page.

I think that's very good advice. I made the mistake of getting the preferred. I think the Reserve is well worth the AF. I just upgraded to the Aspire. I'm a little disappointed that I won't be able to use the resort credit for advanced purchase rates. I still think it's a good card though. I prefer Hyatt, but Hilton's are everywhere. I find about 90% of my hotel stays are Hilton's.

Will he be traveling to away games or staying in his college town? Have him check to see what hotels are available in those cities. It may be there are no Hyatts or Marriotts that would work for him. At my DDs alma mater there is no Hyatt, one Marriott in the city and four properties more than 30 miles away.
I think on paper, the Chase Hyatt's combined 50k points bonus and Cat 1-4 anniversary cert is a better deal than the current Chase Marriott Bonvoy Boundless with 75k points bonus and a 35k anniversary cert.

However, since we're talking about your nephew, the Marriott card is probably a better choice. As a practical matter, if this card is for your nephew to catch a football game, then Marriott has a much larger footprint than Hyatt. It's no use accumulating Hyatt points if there are no Hyatts where he wants to stay. Next, the Bonvoy Boundless has a much lower MSR. The Bonvoy card's SUB dropped back down to 75k points recently, so I wouldn't typically recommend it and would you to wait until it goes back up to 100k, but the lower SUB also has a lower $3k MSR (down from $5k for the 100k SUB offer). The Hyatt card has a tiered $6k MSR to get its 50k SUB. I think those $5k-$6k MSRs could be too much for your nephew.
As many others have said, see what hotels are available where he wants to go. Often there are several options for Marriott and only one for Hyatt. That being said, a Hyatt Place could be as low as 8K points when the Marriott options are 15-35K.
Unfortunately, now that it is June, many places might already be booked for big games this fall. Have him check that out too.

Thanks y'all. There are definitely both Marriotts and Hyatts as possibilities, although whether any of them are still available for this fall might be another story. The different MSRs could be a factor, too. I think I might have to lay out the pros and cons of the two cards rather than just recommend one -- I really try to avoid credit card discussions with extended family but in this case I was specifically asked.

Question related to the CSR... I did a PC in to CSR from CSP 6/18. I got my travel credit on 7/18 but my AF didn't post until 11/18. Do I downgrade in after I use the travel credit in July or wait until November after the AF hits?

Since I have the Gold and Platinum personal Amex. I really haven't been using my CSR. I now have the CIP and that also the better car and travel insurance? So I don't really need the CSR? Do I PC back to the CSR again at some point to be able to get the $300 bonus x 2?

Another question about the tips thread on Reddit: Do I post my questions on disboard and then put the links of the answers on dischurners? or do I ask questions over there directly?

As of 5:38 am, DH is the proud new owner of CIP #2! (CIP #1 has been closed for some period.) I guess Chase works on the late shift or someone over in India is approving the accounts? Now to borrow DS’s iPad so I can request to have it expedited.
called auto line just now...approved for CIP!:cool1: now how do I call in to ask for expedited card?
Approved for CIP 2 this morning:banana:
I've been thinking I should try to get DH a second CIP before his silly furniture store card reports to his credit. We can make the spend on two I am sure. His original CIP was referred from my first one. Should I refer him for #2 from my #2 or is it ok to refer him from my first one a second time.

Back from a great trip to Orlando... visiting my son and Disney....so what’s the first thing I do this morning

Apply for CIP2...from my DHs link...instant approval... :cheer2: .now asking to have it expedited....along with a bunch of us here it seems...

CONGRATULATIONS. Joining in the celebration as DH just got his CIP2 approved this AM. :cheer2::cool1::cheer2:

Hyatt experts.... will I have any issue with my upcoming night at MCO Hyatt? It's on points from DH's acct- I added in notes that I will be checking in..... should I worry? maybe call ahead?

I found that using Facebook Messenger to contact Hyatt works awesome. I’ve used it to add names to a reservation (we used our free anniversary night for friends of ours), confirm a reservation made through a third party website (Expedia, etc.) and also to get points refunded on a cancelled points booking (normally they return automatically but a glitch prevented this one time).
