Yeah, we are all annoyed at the increase but it's not like they've taken away benefits or added black out dates or anything.
I would not say that the AP preview is no longer consider complementary just because you had to buy your AP. Would you seriously?

Wow. I didn’t expect that reaction, I was just trying to lighten the mood around here with a little humor.
But in all seriousness nothing Disney includes in anything is complementary.
People like to say The magical express is free, The bus is between the parks are free. Nothing is free, it is all calculated it your park tickets and hotel stays. This includes any previews done at GE. It has been calculated into what we have paid for our ever increasing platinum pass.

Ya, I want to say it's a crappy move from Disney, but it's a brilliant business move. They know people are going to want to buy AP's to try to get a preview, so demand just skyrocketed.

Getting a few extra bucks now doesn't actually mean it's a brilliant business move nor even a good one. Crappy is just crappy sometime.

No one likes an increase, but if used to the fullest the platinum pass is still a great value compared to other entertainment options.

While I don’t have an answer to your specific question about SWGE previews, I will say that I have been able to register for various Passholder events in the past while only having a not-yet-activated AP voucher linked to my MDX profile.

In addition to registering, can one actually attend the event with the not-yet-activated AP voucher linked in MDX profile? Is there any sort of verification is done at the event to determine if it's active?

I don’t know. My AP was activated by the time the event rolled around. I’m inclined to think it would have to be activated to enter, but who knows?

If it's like the Toy Story event they will scan your MB to confirm. You're going to need an active AP.

I get why the increase, but no one has to like it. It just got a lot harder for a family to have platinum passes. The significant increase really takes away from the amount budgeted for travel, hotel, food, etc (even with the discounts from the pass). It's going to be a deal breaker for a lot of people.

I'm not sure. I don't have a membership and didn't even know this was possible to purchase from them. I assume it works the same as purchasing from Disney in that you get a voucher to redeem in person. Here is the link to purchase.
