So I'm new not only to this forum but this is my 1st DCL experience. I asked how many FE gifts to bring because I saw on fB that you get assigned to 10 cabins including your own. Also the question i had was is it best to register here or on fB since they had and excel sheet.
Instead of answering I was deleted which is a horrible way to treat someone new to fE groups and etc. Especially when I have expressed in all my post this is our group 1st disney cruise...
I honestly dont understand how my thread was deleted and none of my questions was answered for my October 11 cruise ...beyond frustrating
If someone could help me I would greatly appreciate it

Hi - your thread was not deleted..? It is still here: https://www.disboards.com/threads/o...en-disney-dream-cruise.3754913/#post-60733915

It is also not an "unspoken rule" - it is clearly explained in a sticky at the top of the Cruise Meets Forum here - https://www.disboards.com/threads/i...uise-meet-and-fish-extender-programs.3353477/

It looks like another mod deleted one of your comments in the thread though as it very explicitly talked about a group on a social media site which is against the rules here whether or not a poster is new. You are more than welcome to start a group here or join one if you wish, all we ask is that you do not redirect people to a social media site from the thread. Some find it more pleasant to have a small FE group here whereas others love having a larger group which Facebook or other sites often provide. It's really up to you to sign up where you feel comfortable with. There are no set rules as to how any group runs their FE - its up to the participants to come up with what they want to do with size or number of gifts and cabins.

Do make sure what ever group or groups you join know you want to participate. Otherwise you wont be getting only giving.

Ok so, I was planning on signing up all the kids coming to the bday party and provide the gifts...so I must say give the children something back please.lol..i thought if you sign up its understood that you would want the children to get something in return

Also do you give each adult a gift or just do a family gift and focus on the kids.

It can get confusing. Basic rundown is you sign up for a group or groups. Someone one in the group will run it. They will have a deadline for signups so people can start planning. Some do 10 room max some do all or whatever is decided. Then they decide if there will be an adults only, child only or family(cabin). You can pick one or all. If you do family it can be one shared or one for each person in the cabin. If you do just kids each kid you sign up in your cabin needs to gift and in return they will get gifts.

Let me k ow if this helps or you have questions.

Not sure if you already know this - but there is no one single FE group exchange planned for every cruise. There could even be more than one FE exchange happening in a single cruise! The whole idea started here on the disboards. But there are also various Facebook groups that took the idea and also organize FE exhanges of their own. And since the disboards is its own online community, it's not the thing to post links to other online communities that cover the same subject matter. (By the way, have you looked up your cruise here on the Dis? You might find you also enjoy the group here).

It's kinda unique to Disney cruisers. When I cruise Royal Caribbean, groups often organize a slot pull.

FE is a volunteer-run thing and each FE group makes up their own rules. Basically a group of internet friends gathering to organize a fun gift exchange. So read up the rules of whatever FE group you choose to join. If u have specific questions, u need to ask your organizer. Folks here can help give u an idea of what is typically done - but because each group makes their own rules, it is impossible to be specific.

You mention a BDay Party. What's up with that??? The FE exchange has nothing to do w/ birthdays. Have you found your cruise group here on the DIS? Are they doing a FE exchange? We are sailing from Hawaii in May 2020 and our DIS group is very active and we have several group exchanges planned.

There are some basics in a sticky at the top of this forum all about the cruises. Info about the FE exchanges are included. As mentioned, your cruise group will have their own rules about the exchanges. We can answer general questions.

LOL also you find that this site is restrictive because it is a business while other social media groups really don't care what links you post because it's not a business for them.

Except for the ones also run by a business... this site is indeed run by a TA group, Dreams Unlimited, so they're restrictive on naming some other TAs but it's not like they peddle people's info or try to sell their own FE gifts or swag like they do in some of the other groups.

I want to mention since you said that your mainly doing it for kids, that there have been posts before about people stealing things out of the FE holders. I don't think it happens a lot, but just wanted to let you know it could happen since it's your first time. When I went on an extended family cruise, we just did it with our own family members. We all told each other when we would put stuff out, so that it could be taken in right away(we didn't tell the kids, so they were still excited when we suggested they check the holders). My dd loved picking out things that she knew were "just right" for each of her cousins.

I was thinking of FB groups for specific cruises which are generally are not so restrictive, unless they are being run by a TA. Those tend to be the ones to avoid.

You can’t just see that an FE group is going on and participate. You have to sign up for it. Make sense?

I don’t understand the birthday party thing.

Also do you give each adult a gift or just do a family gift and focus on the kids.

That 100% depends on the FE group you choose to join.

I actually caught a lady stealing my FE bag from the fish. I just emptied it. Chased her down the hallway yelling thif and she tried to ignore me. After going off on her she told me to shut up. Told her she is lucky Ibwas heading up to see fireworks ot her and I would have had a date with security. The room stewards saw it and said they see it all the time but can't say anything.

Many of us use wire ties to secure the FE holder to the fish. It won't stop stealing directly from the pockets, but your FE tends to stick around.

This. Most of the adults are decent and most don't even think about such things. But there are a few. It moreso seems to happen with certain groups of teens prowling the halls.

In most FE’s it’s really up to how you want to do it, some people leave a gift for each individual, others just do one family gift and some do a family gift and individual gifts. Typically there are no set rules, more of a personal preference on how you want to give. I personally prefer to spend more money and give one bigger nice family gift. But we receive individual gifts and family gifts from others, so it’s usually however you want to do it. Remember, when you sign up for FE you may have cabins that are only adults with no kids. It’s not necessarily a kid only thing. In fact, on my last two cruises I signed up for the adult only fish extender group.

I do find it funny that they do let Costco, as a travel agency albeit a warehouse club one, to be so blatantly mentioned and discussed, when they clamp down on other TAs.
