So apparently i broke an unspoken rule

I did the organizing of a Stateroom tour as well, where participants got the chance to see EVERY category and version of stateroom, including the generous offer to see the Roy Suite.

And you did an amazing job! Still one of the best cruises I've been on. Completely agree I've seen some odd power struggle groups on cruises since which have put me off participating as much as I used to.

Hope you have a fab cruise and enjoy the FE experience

I've heard about the power struggle over "there" but that hasn't been our experience and we've always had great groups over "there". No issues at all. I checked our FE group here for our Nov cruise and it's crickets! For many wanting to be part of an FE when they look here, they're likely to find the same thing. It's a shame that you can't send them over "there". I would never have found Disboards if not for someone on CruiseCritic. If someone else does it better...that's where I want to be! That being said, this is DU's site so they get to make the rules.

Well, on Cruise Critic they take a dim view of directing others to a different site also. It's not just a DCL thing.

Since Fish Extenders were started on Disney, it's kinda like other sites took it over, by telling people "come on over to XXXXX , that's where FEs are done". One major reason why the ones on DISboards have died.

I'm pretty much done with FE since it has morphed (and I wasn't even around in the early days, more like the middle days). But I actually would enjoy doing it with just a small group of DISers. It's tempting me to broach the subject with the four people on our DIS cruise thread.

What is a slot pull? I have never cruised on Royal Caribbean.
A slot pull is when each participant puts in X dollars ($5, $10, what ever the group decides on) and everyone meets at a predetermined time at the casino. Then the money is pooled and each person gets a turn at playing on the selected slot machine. After all the money has been used one time then any money won is divided up between all the participants. I have done it twice and have never left with the amount I put in, its been less, lol.
It's just a fun way to meet your fellow cruisers while having a cocktail and keeping your fingers crossed.

Why not go for it? If there's only a few of you, it actually might be more fun.

I don't do them for every cruise. I'm doing kids only for this one and it works since we're driving to the port. It definitely has changed though since we first did it years ago. I did it once for my daughter - buying everything and putting it in the FE. Going forward, that's what I'd likely do.

We did a slot pull on our most recent cruise. Everyone put in $15 and we selected the highest bet ($5.00). Each person got 3 pulls. Whatever the "winnings" were after everyone was done was divided equally by the number of people playing. Any extra (after everyone has an even amount) would go to the person who got the highest win during their pull. The outcome on our slot pull was - everyone got $15 and the biggest winner got $40

I disagree with this. FE died on Disboards when the admins made rules that you could no longer organize with Google sheets etc. Using only the forums is clunky and confusing. Having forms and spreadsheets is organized and saves time.

The growth of FB groups had already started but both were still active. Once organizers could no longer use common organizational tools, the active groups here really tanked.

Wasn't it an attempt at keeping private info private, though?

I've seen plenty of FE groups (here and elsewhere) that use google spreadsheets to maintain the information.

What "tanked" the DISboards groups was the multitude of new cruisers posting "Come on over to XXXXX site, we have a really good group there". That really didn't allow for groups to get a good foothold here when first starting cruise meet threads.

That's why they said we can't direct others to other sites from here. Before that all started there were no restrictions.

When I first started on DISboards, I was on another site. Both sites had FE groups running for the cruise I was taking. There were people who were on both lists, and some on only one or the other. Places like facebook were only used for the non-cruise related discussions - "how are your kids?", "boy, I had a really crappy day today", "the weather here is really great".
