Has anyone ever moved somewhere and found out that someone died in your residence?

We recently sold our house. My BF just informed me that the previous owner died in our bedroom. He didn't want to tell me while we were living there so I wouldn't be scared. I still cried even though we aren't living there anymore, because there have been some weird occurrences in that house.

Our puppy would randomly bark/growl at the ceiling in our bedroom and physically get on top of me like he was trying to protect me. I also would wake up randomly in the night and see dark figures at the end of the bed. I have always had sleep issues so I usually would shrug it off and go back to sleep. I also heard noises in the attic numerous times and was seriously convinced someone was living up there.

I tend to be a hypochondriac/scaredy-cat, so am I being dramatic? Has anyone else experienced something weird like this? If so, what did you do?!

It definitely makes me hesitant to purchase an older home in the future. Not like my experiences were bad, just really creepy.

You're crying over a stranger that died in a house you no longer own or live in and you're asking if you're being dramatic? :rotfl:

Caylene, that was nice of your friend to not tell you, since she knew it would bother you, but I have to ask. Why do you see the the end of someone's life as the beginning of them haunting their old house? If you have ever seen anyone pass, it's not morbid at all. I've sat bedside and held hands of a loved one and it's a beautiful thing and a time of honor to watch someone's life come to an end, all the days and nights, come to a finale surrounded by loved ones. I, for one, do believe in an afterlife and I found the book 'Imagine Heaven' was mind-blowing.

Regarding sounds in your house, chances are you had flying squirrels in your attic, or regular squirrels or mice/rats. Dogs have an amazing sense of hearing and smell and would definitely be alert to any critters.

As you move from house to house, there will be all sorts of things that occurred in those houses, Adultery, lies, cheating on taxes, gossip, alcoholism, drug use, pornography-addiction, animal abuse, and violent tempers. If you believe these things leave 'energy' then I suggest you walk through your houses and speak life and love and if you are a person of faith, pray through that house.

But no, I do not for even one second believe someone passing from this life into the next would be a reason for fear/concern.

When we moved into the house my parents purchased in Florida back in the early 70's, I was just 8 yrs old.
My aunt and uncle lived across the street and I heard my aunt tell my mom that the couple who owned the house before had a newborn baby die in one of the bedrooms, it freaked me out. I was happy I was in the other room, LOL.

Thankfully, the 3 homes my husband and I have owned were all bought new construction. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

That was a really nice post, thank you! Good way of looking at it. My cousin did offer to bless my house when we moved in, wish I would have taken her up on it.

We had "the boy" at our old house. He didn't die in the house, I think it was a car accident while he was living in the house. We did have some odd goings on - loud thumps from upstairs that sounded like furniture falling over when nobody was up there and nothing actually moved, my sister said she saw him in her room when she was a toddler (she thought it was my dad, but then my dad came in the room).

OMG, that's really really sad 😔

I own a home that I rent out and it was new construction! The house I grew up in was new construction as well. So, I've never thought about it before.

I wouldn’t want to live at 10050 Cielo Dr but in a house where someone died of natural causes? Would’ve bother me at all. I work at a hospital and a nursing home so I’m around death all the time.

Had to look up that address and I agree! I live in Seattle so there's all kinds of talk about Ted Bundy's childhood home being haunted. ETA: Which is weird because he never murdered anyone there, just superstition.

I think some people are just far more comfortable with death than others. I've had lots of family members pass away, but IDK why it bothers me so much that someone died where I was living.

Ugh, that's creepy!

When I was little, I was insistent that I had a "friend" I talked to in the garage. It really freaked my parents out. We moved and I never spoke of him again.

Our 2 homes have been new construction. One was built on Indian Reservation land. I often thought I saw a Native American in my hallway.

Both of my grand parents died in the bedroom of their home 30+ years apart. Your post now makes me wonder if Granny and Papaw are hanging out in their house. Their home had been new construction in 1970. They were the only owners until it was sold last year.

Funny story, my grandparents are buried in a cemetery where a lot of my grandfather's cousins and relatives are buried (including my dad). My grandmother died 2 years ago. My mom is faithful about putting flowers on my dad and grandparent's graves and often goes to check on the flowers as it's on a main road she travels often. A few times she has found the flowers near other family members graves several yards across the cemetery. We joke and say that they are all visiting each other and having a great time!!

Awww, I love that! Does anyone in your family still own the home?

My family is extremely superstitious so we take any messages beyond the grave really seriously. It doesn't seem to bother me if it was my own family sending me messages, I'm more creeped out that it's a stranger.

Don't realtors have to disclose if someone has died in the house?

Nope, common misconception from what I've read on the internet.

No. The home was sold last year. The new owners updated it and it's been on Zillow for almost a year. We've seen the pictures and hate what they've done to it and think our grandmother would hate it, too. So , maybe she is haunting it LOL!!

There are construction accidents. New construction is not a guarantee that someone didn't die in the home.

Well, excuse me while I go cry now. Lol, kidding. But yes, very true. Or someone else mentioned that their home was built on Native American land.

Hahahaha! What's funny is that our house was flipped before we bought it so maybe he didn't like the changes either 😂

By the time I moved to LA 10050 Cielo Drive was torn down and replaced with another house with an address change. But it stood and was occupied for about 25 years after August 9, 1969.

The LaBianca house at 3311 Waverly Drive was recently sold. (Address was changed from the 3301 it had in 1969). People had no problem living there for 50 years.

If you want to have dinner at El Coyote Restaurant this coming Thursday night, forget it. It's been booked for months.

Thousands, maybe millions, of people have died of natural causes or accidents in their homes. No need to disclose such information.

I think in some states realtors have to disclose if a murder, suicide, or other unnatural death occurred within the past 5 or 10 years.

My sister bought their house in 2007.
My niece was born in 2008.
I believe in 2010 my niece mentioned an old lady.
My sister then found out the old lady that lived their prior died int he house.

Lots and lots of people who are terminally ill have it in mind that they want to die at home. Personally, I think it's an awful idea, but it does happen often. Most of those houses change hands eventually. Any number of us could be living in a house where someone died. :confused3

There have been three poeple who have died in our house. The man who built the house and then both my grandmother and grandfather who died years apart both on hospice care. We have never had any issues... :confused3

I do believe in houses being haunted though...I just don't think it has to do with someone dying in the house.

Coincidental trivia you might like, Angie. Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion opened on August 9, 1969. How weird is that? I never made the connection until this week hearing about both 50th Anniversaries.
