On the cc side of the house, I cancelled Cit Biz #2 today since DH received a mailer yesterday. It's been 120 days since my last application but I suspect I should wait a bit after canceling #2. Is the general consensus to wait a month or is it less?

I just did it this week! Closed Biz#2 on 8/6 (double checked online that it was closed). I was going to wait a week after closing, but couldn't stand waiting anymore, and applied with an (expired) mailer yesterday 8/8, and got the "You've been approved!" email this morning for #3. Hoping the SUB is attached, will do a test when I get the card in the mail.

On top of all of DHs other travel, he got a call the other day from a business associate of the current customer, because current customer recommended him. This guy has a building in California so they're going out to look at it (my first question - how close to DLR?). So now... they're going Thurs for a day trip. DH will probably go Wed afternoon/evening to see his brother... I told him... he should just fly from there to FL on Thurs night :D

Are you going to do a refundable purchase to test for the sub? Or did it have a GC offer?

Okay, y'all this made me almost want to fly SW ( and possibly got me a wee bit verklempt).

My DH came over from Vietnam on the last flight out before the country fell to the North. He was around 12 years old. It is strange to hear him talk about it since they were still going to school and trying to lead "normal" lives while the war was going on around them. He has never had a desire to go back and is very grateful for his mom coming back to get the kids out of the country. (She had gone ahead to the States with his stepdad who was a GI.)

@calypso726 maybe you can help with my United question since I'm also trying to book United to Hawaii for 2020. When I search for premium economy seats from RIC to HNL, I get Saver awards of 22.5k one way. However, if I just search for regular economy, they're also only 22.5k. So I'm concerned that the premium economy may not actually be any different than regular economy, since they're all just showing up under the "Economy" banner. There's no indication that there is premium economy versus economy on the flight. Is it possible it's a flight without a premium economy option?

I hope that makes sense. I'm not super familiar with United so I may just be missing something. I only have a handful of United miles, so I can't click through to look at seat options or anything.

Don’t forget that my DH is nicknamed PlanePrincess  I’ve never booked an award flight in either class. That said, one of the bloggers posted last December that United was offering PE award seats. If the award is available there would be a column for it and it would say PE.

I would echo the advice of checking with seat guru. I’d also advise double checking how many points it would cost to pay via the UR portal vs transfer UR points to UA.

Does it matter how recently we applied for a different biz card? I’m guessing no but I just want to make sure.

Also, would I need a mailer for an AA biz?

Since they are all different card issuers you should be fine timing wise but can you meet all that spend at once? You don’t need a mailer for your first AA Biz card. You have lots of offers to choose from. Search for @SouthFayetteFan’s post breaking down all the Biz offers

I think the dummy booking would be best to do first. I think it’s $2,000 in spend for 40,000 miles plus $250 statement credit. You could try asking for a match for 60,000 miles too since it’s your first one

Ok, travel advice time. I usually glaze over with jealousy at everyones amazing travel plans, but I actually might do something other than simple weekend trips and could use some input.
Our 30th anniversary is labor day weekend next year, and we are considering Aulani. Room would be on points. Originally it was spurred on by SW starting Hawaii flights and we will have the CP until the end of next year.
SW won't even let you book from MSP to Hawaii, have to book west coast, then a separate flight from there to Hawaii. Which is fine. But, I am wondering, how miserable would a flight on a SW plane be for that long of a flight?
What would be good other options if we wanted to splurge a little? Wouldn't mind taking different airlines to get from MSP to the west and then from west to Hawaii. I have Graavy Train miles, Delta miles (which I like to hoard) some UR's and some MR's. I have found that AA has first class from a few cities for 55k (none of which I can get to direct from here LOL, but whatever), they are Alaskan Airlines flights on the 737-900 it looks like? Is anyone familar with those planes/flights?
Any opinions/advice is very welcome.

Thank you!

Are you looking to fly business/first class which is a little bit more room or lie flat business/first class? The two are very different experiences.

AA does have a lie flat flight out of DFW.

When I begin planning for a Hawaii trip, I do a search for lie flat Hawaii award flights. Then I read each of the blogger articles. The bloggers are pretty good about naming the airline, the routes and the type of plane with lie flat options. I take notes from each article Then I take it from there.

At this point, I’m honestly thinking we will just wait. Staying at the swolphin isn’t that big of a deal to us and we were trying to slow down our spend. I did add your notes to my google doc though for the future. I’m thinking maybe in September we could try the CIC and an AA biz

I will have met the MSR on my first CitiAA biz by the end of this month (thank you Plastiq and my LAST tuition payment!!!). What do I need to know about the timing of closing that account? Just waiting till the SUB miles/points post to my account and then once they do I can close immediately?

I know not to apply for a second one until Mid-October to keep it at 95 days.

I talked to Dh and we agreed we’re gonna just focus on using the BBP this month. When September hits we’ll for sure get the CIC and talk about an AA biz.

On another note, I think we’re actually considering staying at ASMovies for my birthday. It’s really hard to pass up $400 for 3 nights. That would save us so much money for MVMCP and the cruise that we’re hoping to do.
