I love credit cards so much! v2.0 (see first page for add'l details)

Back to 4/24 as of 2 days ago. Am I good to go for CIP #2? Seem to recall some people like to wait until the next month. Now I can't remember why? Chase likes to pull Experian and Equifax for me. Experian just has August instead of the actual date (is that why?).
Mainly people wait until the next month just to play it super-safe. If you're past the actual date you're probably fine...of course if something doesn't work then it could set you back by 30 days. I guess it really comes down to whether you have an MSR right now or not - if you can wait 2 weeks (+ 1 week for the card to show up) then I'd wait. If not - go for it :D

Good luck with whatever you do!

Oh boy. Our flight that was supposed to be 8:49pm-11:32pm is now delayed to 10:08pm-12:51am. And our preview is at 9am! I looked at the next earlier flight and it's delayed to leave at 7:49pm now, but my husband works til 5pm, won't get home til 5:45/6pm and EWR is 30 minutes away with no traffic. And there will be traffic.

He gave me a hard no on trying to make that switch. If this were a planned trip, he'd ask to leave early. But he's already gotta call out sick tomorrow. Let's hope we can catch a nap on the plane. We're going to be zombies tomorrow! Let's cross our fingers we're not further delayed.
Which airline? Sorry you are delayed.

Ok thanks for the info. I plan on calling a little later this afternoon. I hope the mortgage company doesn’t charge me a fee for insufficient funds if the check gets cancelled. Do you know if any of the checks ever made it after you cancelled?

Does your mortgage company allow you to set up autopay from your checking account? For future reference, this is what I do with my Plastiq mortgage payments, and I have autopay set up through my mortgage company. This ensures I never get hit with a fee:

Because some credit reports come up5/24...until the month after the account is open.
So you may or may not be ok applying......I’m cautious so would wait until 9/1....if you don’t have a large spend sooner
:tinker: You are approved quickly when ever you decide to apply

Jetblue. I'm thinking we just get there as soon as we can and see if we can try to get on the earlier flight once we're at the airport. Worst case, we're on our original flight. I'm
guessing we won't have much luck as I'm sure we're not the only ones with that idea and we can't get there very early. Oh well. I knew flying late in the day in the summer was a risk.

Anyone interested in the target collabs you can see what lines your store will have here they released what each line will have yesterday.

Surprised all 3 stores near me will have lilly. One has everything, one over half and the one still being remodeled less than half.

I'll continue with some thoughts on AMEX POP UPS:

When you apply for an AMEX card, the RAT is watching...always watching! And if they identify you as a churner (i.e. an unprofitable customer to them) you may encounter this popup:

(Name), based on your history with American Express welcome offers, introductory APR offers, or the number of cards you have opened and closed, you are not eligible to receive this welcome offer.
We have not yet performed a credit check. Would you still like to proceed?
[CONTINUE AND SUBMIT] OR [CANCEL APPLICATION]

Unless you are ok with NOT getting the bonus, you want to hit the Cancel button at this point. Amex has warned you and they will not reward your bonus no matter how much you spend on this new card at this point. You can always try again in the future to see if the popup goes away.

So this is the scary "popup" we refer to that means you have somehow been labeled a churner. You may encounter this even if you only have gotten 1 Amex card. We are not able to pinpoint what causes this but theories include:
  • Getting card(s) from Amex and only meeting the MSR and then "sock-drawering" the card(s) (i.e. no ongoing spend)
  • Meeting an MSR extremely quickly primarily through a large purchase(s) and then only putting minimal spend on the card after that
  • Closing cards without paying the 2nd year annual fee
  • Opening numerous cards with Amex in the past and and now you aren't putting recurring spend on them
  • Some other abuse in the past (using a leaked link that wasn't meant for you), returning purchases against your MSR, etc.
  • and numerous other reasons
So how do you avoid the Amex Popup?
Well first, don't get Amex cards that you don't plan to use regularly. Does that Delta offer sound great, but you won't put a dime on it afterwards...then AVOID that card. Start with cards that have good recurring value to you, my list includes cards like Amex BCE, BCP, BBP and Gold because of their category bonuses and/or excellent earn rates.

Meet the MSR methodically through regular/normal purchases. Avoid returns during your MSR period at all costs. Keep spending after you hit the MSR and come up with a plan to support regular spend on that card.

If the Platicorn (100k Plat offer) is what you're after...and you get it...then be in it for the long haul. You are going to need to continue to spend on this card despite it's terrible earn rate. Just factor that into your decision at the begininning.

Can I get rid of this Popup?
Yes - by spending on your cards you can get rid of it. Nobody can tell you how much you have to spend or for how long. Anybody who tells you is either a) guessing or b) providing anecdotal evidence. Your experience may differ - I know of people who spend thousands and still saw the popup. I know of others who spend a few hundred and the popup was gone. It's up to you to decide how committed you are to getting rid of the nasty popup message.

Isn't there another Popup?
Yes - there is a different popup if you've already held this card product. It reads:

(Name), Because you have or have had The (INSERT CARD), you are not eligible to receive the welcome offer.
We have not yet performed a credit check. Would you still like to proceed?
[CONTINUE AND SUBMIT] OR [CANCEL APPLICATION]

If you get this popup - you are applying for a card you previously held. You aren't going to get the bonus and you probably want to cancel UNLESS you were applying for this card intentionally and did not plan to earn the bonus.

So there are some thoughts on Amex Popups :D Hopefully you never face this issue, but if you do, now you know what causes it, and how to deal with it.

One day I'll put some spend on my SPG Biz and get myself out of popup hell... but it is not this day :rotfl2: The good news is, I bet DH will stay in Amex's good graces for a while since I'm spending to do the 15k Hilton free night. Wouldn't mind hitting it again next year, honestly. Maybe I could make use of them for Hawaii.

No MSR right now. It's kind of painful, lol. I went for it but second guessing myself now. It's at 30 days. So now the obsessive calling begins.

it seems like the consensus from the survey is to bring your spendings back up to what u were doing during your MSR time... most of those who did were able to get rid of the popup.
My other groups also believes that Amex is tracking how many times your getting the popup as well. im not sure if this is positive or negative in the eyes of amex but we saw some sort of proof that there is a ticking number...

@SouthFayetteFan since you're on the topic of Amex... are there any velocity issues with Amex other than what I think is maybe the 2 cards in 90 days?

DH is currently:

Delta personal card- got it in 2012
SPG Biz- 03/19
Hilton Biz- 06/19
Hilton Surpass- 07/19

Hmmm I put those Hilton cards closer together than I realized... lol. Still doing a lot of spend on Hilton biz since it's hanging out in DH's wallet right now. SPG Biz is getting a decent amount, including the $350 I just put on at a Marriott property. He was autoapproved for Hilton Biz and Hilton Surpass. Since I picked up two new cards this morning, we won't be getting anything else until probably end of November/early December. I'm just not sure how much more I should keep hitting Amex for him. We STILL don't have any MR earning cards.

Just wanted to share my experience since I did get out of "popup jail" recently. I received a popup at least 6 months ago when applying for my 3rd Amex (had SPG Biz and Hilton biz). I had put quite a bit of spend on the SPG, but not much on the Hilton since meeting the MSR. After I got the popup, I made sure to never let a statement close with a zero balance (even just putting a few small vending machine purchases on it) every month. The SPG I seemed to get better Amex offers on, so it did get more spend on it, but still not a huge amount (a few hundred a month I'd estimate). I did pay the SPG biz AF when it came due (I think in Feb or Mar) this year, which I think helped me. I was approved for the Hilton Surpass a few months ago, and have since closed the Hilton biz. I did receive my Hilton SUB this month.

So, for anyone that might be trying to get out of jail but isn't willing to put a large amount of spend on the card each month, you might at least try to not allow the statement to close with a $0 balance, and if there are any cards that seem somewhat worth the AF, go ahead and keep it for a year. Oh, and also I always waited to pay the amount due after the statement closed, so that it didn't show a $0 statement balance.

For my ongoing spend, I'm trying to keep at least some spend on the cards, and have considered using the Hilton at grocery stores to buy VGC's to use with Serve, but haven't actually made the effort to do that so far. I might next month when I don't actually have any organic spend on it since working on my CIP MSR.

Anyways, hope this helps!

Thanks! I'm sure they're mad at me for closing my Hilton Biz, but oh well. I do plan to keep my SPG Biz long term. Actually the AF should be coming due for that in the next couple weeks.

I had the same thing happen when I logged in this morning. I about had a heart attack when I saw $0 FFDs because I KNEW I had some sitting in there. I even had a screenshot proof from last month. After doing the clear browser thing a few times, I finally had my screen show me the FFDs that I was expecting. It's good that you opened a support ticket - I've found Plastiq to be very responsive and helpful when I chat with them. I hope you end up with some FFDs!!

Took 2 emails, but I think they are in there. At least Mary said they were there. I am not at home now so can’t log in to check.

I'm at 41 cards currently open right now and my wife is at 36.

77 total between the two of us. That's after closing 28 this year alone. :faint:

@SouthFayetteFan since you're on the topic of Amex... are there any velocity issues with Amex other than what I think is maybe the 2 cards in 90 days?
Nope. 2/90 for Credit Cards. No velocity for Charge Cards.

For super advanced churners: You can get the same charge card once every 90 days unless NLL, which bypasses the 90 day velocity. I've tried 60 days and it works but too scared to go quicker. And at roughly $30k/MSR I have to hit per month, I have about all I can chew currently.

Got the email from Bonbon for the Peak/OffPeak/5th night changes coming. They made a very positive sounding subject line "Two New Ways to Redeem Points for Free Nights"
We've been kinda conditioned to think of something "new" as something "good" so you automatically get into a positive frame of mind thinking something good for me is coming... not so much. It's also not lost on me that they always describe it as "Off Peak and Peak" rates, trying to emphasize the lower redemption rates while minimizing the increase that comes with it. I don't think they're fooling anyone.

Although I guess if you have a 50k FNC this is a slightly positive change for that as you can get bumped up one category on a redemption should a Cat 7 property go Off-Peak. For the 25k and 35k FNCs this just "lowers" your category options when Cat 4 and Cat 5 properties go Peak and shut out the FNCs. I suspect this was the one and only time I got to use a 35k FNC at a Hershey hotel on a Saturday night during the summer  There's nothing spectacular about those hotels that should rate the category they are in, but location, location, location.

This makes me feel like a slacker. I only have 19 open.
