I find it amusing how much effort AmEx is having to put into the cards now.

A couple random thoughts, with no real substance or analysis -
1. How I don't get picked for the cash surveys? I had a couple for this card and they'd only donate the $10 or $20 to charity. Haven't seen this latest one yet. :p

2. Even if it gave the 3x earnings back in some form, is 3x Marriott still worth earning? Does Marriott still have the redemption options/value it did before Bonvoy? (side note, auto correct automatically changed that to "Bonvoyed" on me - auto correct knows)
It's only 1 additional point over current rate, is that enough to make it a daily driver again like they were used to before? I hazard a guess that the root cause of AmEx's problem is the new Bonblah program and not so much the nerf from 3x to 2x (although that didn't help)

3. If AmEx actually changes the Marriott earn rate, could that mean a change on another card? When the new joint card issuance between Chase and AmEx launched, all the new cards got the same earn rates. Is that something contractual to keep the competition civil or was that just a launch front? Maybe now with a year behind them all bets are off and each can do as they need to keep up the revenue? While AmEx and Chase buy the points from Marriott, Marriott obviously doesn't want a glut of points out there otherwise they most likely wouldn't be the ones overseeing the card sign up restrictions. (It could be logistical but generally if a sponsor can stay out of it they would and they could have stayed out of it)

This could be interesting. Hopefully something good happens in about six months when I'm eligible to get the Chase card :D

The landscape has changed.
There are now 4 Marriott options - correct me if I'm wrong, as things change so quickly. Amex has 2, Chase has 2.

Amex has the luxury end with the Brilliant, the only card with a 50k night. The brilliant may be holding its own as the $300 credit sort of forces people to buy a Marriott product, which leads to putting spend on the Brilliant at least at their hotels.
Their other product is the business card and lets face it, except for churners who want a sign up bonus, who would seriously consider this card as it is as a daily driver?

Neither Amex Marriott option is a fancy enough (high incentive) card to attract real money. So, they've obviously figured that out and are trying to pump it up, subject to Marriott's natural reserve in all things free, and Amex's financial aspirations.

The Chase cards almost don't count, except to churn.

Right now all 3 fee cards have the same 75k sub. The no fee has 50k and no annual free night.
It looks like after a year, something is going to take shape. Hopefully it's a super sized biz card option with some business sized benefits.

Yeeeahhhh I know. I grew up going to DL (my Grandmother lived about 30 minutes away and I spent every school break at her house) and I live in Phoenix so we drive a lot.

I'll get there eventually but I do love the ease and convenience of moving from DL to DCA with just a short walk... no trams... no boats... none of that. I like my small Sleeping Beauty Castle. I like it all! Not to say I wouldn't like WDW... some day!

Great Southern Bank funding-

I’ve read through and seems DPs are positive for this with CIP. Just wanted to check though- once the money is there can I bill pay the CIP off or would I have to jump through hoops of paying off other things? Don’t want to get my account locked for shenanigans but also, just paying the CIP with the account seems easiest.

I don't know about Great Southern Bank specifically, but I don't like to pay my CCs from a bunch of different bank accounts since I think some CC companies can be sensitive to that. Since I use our liquid savings to move around for different bank bonuses, I'm putting the Great Southern Bank funding on DH's CIP and then just moving the money from my Ally savings to my BoA checking account (our everyday account) and paying the card off that way.

Got the letter from Barclays. They asked me to mail a copy of my drivers license, SSN (both sides) and a bank statement. No option to fax or scan (I don't understand as these are the safest options).

Since I really want the SUB I just put the envelope out for p/u today with 1 day express delivery. Fingers crossed it arrives safely as I'm fairly certain someone could steal my identity with the information.

Thank you! I don’t think I’ll go for that credit card because I have no idea how long it will be before I would go to Hawaii again. Transferring UR might work for us. I haven’t used any of them yet, so I need to figure out how to do that and what the best thing for us is. It might be easier for us just to use SW. I appreciate all the info and am going to do some more research.

If you get to the point where you're looking to transfer UR>VS to book partner awards on Hawaiian, you should check how many UR points the same flight on Hawaiian costs on the UR Portal using your highest redemption card (CIP/CSP/CSR). A $550 R/T economy flight would cost only 36,667 UR on the CSR (1.5x redemption) or 44,000 UR on the CSP/CIP (1.25x redemption), compared to the 40,000 UR you'd have to transfer to VS for the 40,000 miles needed to book R/T awards on Hawaiian, subject to availability.

And as I mentioned, keep stalking fares. Sign up for Google Flight and Hopper alerts for price drops. A price drop should also reflect on the UR Portal, which will lower your points cost. Since you're pushing up against spring break, prices will tend to be a little higher, but I think $550 from the West Coast is still on the higher side. Flying in and out midweek should get you some lower prices.

Thank goodness for the news thread on Reddit. Spent last week in the boonies, and was pretty much totally unplugged.

DP on funding TD Bank with a credit card - used the Chase IHG card to put in the first $500, and it apparently went through as a cash advance. Boo. So I'm out $5 on the transaction so far - hope that bonus actually posts (I did a discover push, not a real direct deposit).

I'm looking at my next card - was thinking about the Amex Gold - the 4pts on groceries sounds good, and we could probably use the dining credit most months and can maybe swing a SW flight arrangement that would trigger the airline credit. Also, the company I work has been affected by the tariff nonsense, so I'm hearing rumors that travel/conferences will be harder to get approval for, which will cut down on some of my spend, so the lower spend for the Gold is attractive (saw an offer for 50k points for 2k spend - plus referral, maybe?)

I am, however, feeling like I'm getting up there on annual fees - my CSR and Amex Biz Plat are both keepers for me, so even though I know the value is probably there, I'm a little reluctant to add another fee card to my collection.

CIP#2 is showing up in my account this morning :cool1: So can I just send a SM asking for the card ending in xxxx to be expedited? I’m a little anxious asking for that but we have some big spend still for the house that needs to happen in this week if possible.
