Mickey Power!!! - July 2019 - Once Upon a Time When DHS Opened After Sunrise - 2/27

The bus driver had everyone squeeze toward the back, allowing people on and it became a free for all. We’d been there just outside the shelter waiting on the bus and people who had just walked up were coming up from behind trying to get on.

This is one of the things that bother me about the mods. I'm a ruler follower and like the lines at the values. I do not like the free for all when the bus pulls up.

By the way, after he refused to take a nap in the room... he, fell asleep on the bus before we made it out of CBR.

WIN!

Yeah!!! I'll take a nap anytime I can get one.

We were getting there near the end of our window for Splash Mountain, but we got a message saying the ride was down and our FP had just become an anytime FP.

Score!

This is the only time this trip we ran into this with RS. But I just wanted to include it because obviously, there is some discretion of the CMs when it comes to RS. It ended up working fine because we were early in the window and had plenty of time, but that could have hung me out if something had happened that caused a delay since

This scares me. I hope it works better in the future.

Looks like this one is too tame for L these days.

I was just thinking the same thing when I saw the picture.

We always enjoy the Tiki Room, but I just can’t figure out how to counter that magic trick where they make us disappear. Can’t I just sit in the dark and AC for a little bit longer???

Love the AC and a place to sit in here.

We headed in to Pecos Bill’s and I got on the app to let them know I was there. This was the first time I ever used mobile ordering and I was sold on it instantly. As I looked at the other lines where the peasants were waiting 8 or 10 deep, I walked right up to the counter, waited a couple of minutes and left with our food. It worked great!

Love mobile ordering!

Unfortunately, we don’t have any photographic evidence of this ride. We even planned for this one and B tapped her Magic Band on it when we left.

Wonder what went wrong? This has happened to us before too.

The good news is that I kind of like the night time safaris and it was dusk by the time we boarded. Not completely dark by any means, but dark enough that our skipper was using the lights on the boat for some effect.

I like the evening cruise too.

We had Skipper Kara, and I did take note of her name, because she was awesome. Her comedic timing was perfect and she delivered her dad jokes in a way that would make dads everywhere proud.

So glad you got a good skipper, they make or break the ride.

So here’s the best one we got...

48430803221_4214d1cd76_z.jpg

Very nice!

We got a decent spot with a view of the castle in front of the train station and everyone enjoyed the show.

Did the kids sign along?

They loaded us in and headed back to CBR. The audio that announces the stops wasn’t working on this ride, and when the lights come on inside, you can’t see out the windows. People were asking the bus driver what stop we were at and he wasn’t answering, so I started looking when the door opened and yelling which stop it was. At least until we got to Barbados, then it was someone else’s job, I guess.

That was very kind of you.

We got back to the room and after showers and baths, we were all in bed and asleep, resting up to explore the World!

I would say this was a good night.

Hey Andy,

Trying desperately to get caught up on my day off around the Boards. I need to give my EPIC TR a finishing touch and get rolling some more with my Sept trip one, so making comments brief. Your first day looked great! A little rain only helps to clear out the park and you had some excellent luck with getting on quite a few rides. Not bad! I go the nachos at Pecos last time I was there, and they filled me up. HUGE! But, having nothing from Cantina to compare them to... 🤷‍♀️

This scares me a bit about the buses at CBR. EEK! I have heard horror stories.

Sorry you were having slight issues with the buses, that's one of the things I don't like about staying at a resort with multiple stops, you can sometimes get locked out of a bus when it's too full like that. Nice though that it lightened up and you were able to breathe on the way to MK. And even better that R fell asleep finally! That boy can really sleep, can't he!

I've never eaten at Peco's Bills before, but I too am totally sold on Mobile ordering! And not only at Disney parks as well! However, it has been a godsend on quite a few occasions, both at DL and WDW!

You guys got in quite a few rides that evening with not bad waits and nice that you had a good view of the fireworks. Not bad for a first day. Way to not push too hard and get all tuckered out!

This is one of the things that bother me about the mods. I'm a ruler follower and like the lines at the values. I do not like the free for all when the bus pulls up.
I know... I find it frustrating and that is a big part of why we usually try the buses a few times, but by the end of the trip we're driving everywhere.
Yeah!!! I'll take a nap anytime I can get one.
::yes::
This scares me. I hope it works better in the future.
I think it really depends on the CM. They aren't clear about publishing the rules of how it is supposed to work and I don't think the CMs get fully trained in it either. I swear, Disney wants to leave it a big grey area so they can do what they want with it when they want with it.
Love the AC and a place to sit in here.
::yes::
Love mobile ordering!
::yes:: That has been the greatest thing they've done with MDE.
Wonder what went wrong? This has happened to us before too.
I don't know... some of our pictures weren't showing up until a long time after they were taken so I kind of hoped that might the case with this one too, but no such luck.
I like the evening cruise too.
::yes::
So glad you got a good skipper, they make or break the ride.
They really do. We lucked out this time around!
Did the kids sign along?
No, honestly, this one isn't one that we have listened to and know well, unlike Wishes.
I would say this was a good night.
::yes::
Trying desperately to get caught up on my day off around the Boards.
I know the feeling.
I need to give my EPIC TR a finishing touch and get rolling some more with my Sept trip one, so making comments brief.
And I finally caught up with those yesterday!
Your first day looked great! A little rain only helps to clear out the park and you had some excellent luck with getting on quite a few rides. Not bad!
::yes:: I don't mind the summer time rains at all for that very reason. Come prepared, brave it out and reap the benefits!
I go the nachos at Pecos last time I was there, and they filled me up. HUGE! But, having nothing from Cantina to compare them to... 🤷‍♀️
They were very big portions... I just thought the beef and the flavor was a little bit better from the ones at the Cantina... the Pecos Bill version was a little less flavorful in my opinion, although still very good.
This scares me a bit about the buses at CBR. EEK! I have heard horror stories.
I want to love the buses, but in general I feel let down by them. And it doesn't matter which resort.
I'm glad we got on when we did, but it just really set the tone for us on how bad the bus situation can be there. Once he's out, he's out for a couple of hours.
I've never eaten at Peco's Bills before, but I too am totally sold on Mobile ordering! And not only at Disney parks as well! However, it has been a godsend on quite a few occasions, both at DL and WDW!
I'm not crazy about all the MDE "upgrades" they've introduced, but this one is a complete win in my book!
You guys got in quite a few rides that evening with not bad waits and nice that you had a good view of the fireworks. Not bad for a first day. Way to not push too hard and get all tuckered out!
::yes:: It really was a great first day at MK. We did everything we wanted, plus some and didn't really have to push too hard to accomplish it!

My Shoe!
After our bus experience on our first day, I was already at the point of swearing off the bus system and just driving to the parks. I always seem to get to that point, but this trip it happened sooner than usual.
However, we were going to EPCOT today so we chose to take the bus.

Because, World Showcase.
As we were getting ready, I got on the App to check the bus situation. It showed an ETA at our stop in 2 minutes.
The kids and I were ready. That’s all I can say here. Moving on...
I hustled everyone out the door to the bus stop. We got there just before our bus pulled up. We boarded the bus. As usual, I found a spot to stand out of the way with the stroller while DW and the kids found seats. We made our way around the CBR bus stops and were pulling out of the resort as DW caught my attention with a look of panic on her face.
In the rush to finish getting ready and leave, she left her phone in the room!
I asked her if she really needed it.
Well... I guess not.
Then don’t worry about it!
We arrived at EPCOT plenty early to get through security and through the tapstiles to await rope drop. They stopped us just before we got to Spaceship Earth. DW informed me she needed to find a restroom... well the restrooms near Spaceship Earth were just beyond the rope. And she didn’t want to leave the park for the restrooms at the entrance and then come back through the tapstile lines.
But we needed to get to Test Track for rope drop.
I told her I’d take the kids and the stroller and walk towards Test Track when the rope dropped. It was crowded enough that I couldn’t go too fast so she could stop at the restroom as we walked past and then catch up with us. It ended up working out just fine as she caught us by the time we made it to Mouse Gear.
We walked towards Test Track to find a massive crowd packing the walkway from the entrance back toward Mouse Gear.

As I completely expected when I had to decide a few months ago which Group A FP attraction to ride Standby at Rope Drop, TT would not be opening at Rope Drop.
We didn’t want to cross the park, as we had FP for the whole morning on this side of the park, so we just chose to stand around waiting.
Awesome.

Glad we got up and rushed to get to EPCOT early.
We ended up standing there until 9:20, which is when our Mission Space Fastpass was good.

DW refuses to ride that one so she gladly offered to take R and go into Mouse Gear to browse while I went with the older kids.
Neither of them had ever ridden it so I wasn’t sure how they’d like it. We chose to go with the Green version. We scanned our bands, walked into the queue, and never saw a single person who wasn’t a CM the whole way into our cockpit.
The kids ended up really enjoying the ride and were begging to do it again. I knew we could probably jump right back in the standby line pretty quick, but I didn’t want to make DW wait longer and I couldn’t text her to let her know what was going on so I told them we’d try to do it later.
As we walked back toward Mouse Gear, guess what had finally opened and was already showing a 45 minute wait?
This day ended up being the hottest day of our trip. It was really toasty. We were already feeling warm and wanted to grab a frozen Coke at the place by Test Track, but it wasn’t even open yet!
We went ahead and decided to walk towards Norway for our next Fastpass. We got there with plenty of time to spare before our FP would be good so we decided to meet Anna and Elsa.

R was having none of it. I put him down and he went in the corner to hide and pout. L whined and complained about going in to see them, but he was a good sport about it. B was spending time with princesses and was happy as could be.

I have to say Anna and Elsa were on their A game. They both spent what seemed like a few minutes chatting and interacting with the kids. Even though R obviously didn’t want to go see them, both of them acknowledged him and tried to get him to interact. Anna even walked over to Elsa with the other kids and pointed out R and whispered something in her ear. I really appreciate them trying to get him into it, but he just wasn’t having it.
After meeting royalty, it was time to go ride Maels... I mean Frozen Ever After. We were not the first to pass that way, nor would we be the last.
Ok, I do like the Frozen overlay. It was a good upgrade and I do think it fits in well to Norway and works with what they’re doing with WS and EPCOT in general now. But the fact that the ride track is still basically the same, I can’t help but think of what used to be there at the different points.

Hey, that used to be a troll!
Hey, that used to be an oil rig!
Hey, that used to be a polar bear!
Anybody else feel that way about that ride or am I just nuts?
Ok, don’t answer that last part.
48601621007_3f3a596511_z.jpg
After our ride, we walked back outside.
I immediately turned around to try and ask Elsa if we could have one of Olaf’s personal flurries for the day, but the CM threatened to call security.
We were going to just have to melt.
It was time to backtrack across the park towards our ADR, but we had FP to use at Spaceship Earth on our way. We had some time to stop for a picture first though.
48601621387_7ac9009836_z.jpg
Again, what is up with Fastpass lines for some rides now???
We ended up waiting 20 minutes with FP!!!!
We got inside the golf ball and were boarding our time machines when everything went sour.
For everyone who was riding Spaceship Earth with us that day, I’m sorry.
Truly I am.
DW was getting into a car with B and R. As she was getting in, one of R’s Crocs fell off and fell down in front of the car. We didn’t realize this until he started screaming as we were seated and on our way.
Normally, I love the long, relaxing ride through the history of communication on our fine planet.
But this time, it was long and painful.
Not only that, but the ride stopped long enough for them to really hammer into our heads how awesome Jesse Owens was in the 1936 Olympics. I couldn’t even tell you how many times we saw that film loop.
R eventually calmed down a little bit after the initial shock, but the whole ride we’d still hear the occasional scream of “My shoe! My shoe!”
As we were getting off the ride, DW turned around to look and just happened to see his Croc sitting down on part of the ride system at the front of their car. She told a CM and they had a grabber arm thingy that they were able to reach down and retrieve it with.

R was reunited with his Croc and was once again happy.
Due to our longer than expected FP wait and on-ride delay in 1936, we had to hustle to get to our ADR. We were scheduled for lunch at Garden Grill!
We had kind of an awkward interaction with a CM in front of the Land Pavilion. I paused with the stroller to get R out and then was going to go park it. A CM approaches us and offered to take the stroller and park it for us. I told her thanks, but I’d just go do it. She gave me kind of a funny look like she wondered what my problem was.
Maybe I'm the weird one, but there was a chance of rain so I just wanted to go park it, make sure the rain cover was on and stash the bag that we leave with the stroller so that it would stay dry.
We let the kids each pick a meal on this trip and Garden Grill was L’s choice. He remembered going a few years ago and wanted to see Farmer Mickey again.
I’m going to just say it now, we did 4 character meals this trip. Hands down, this one was the best. From the food, to the service, to the character interaction, this one checked all the boxes.
Our server was named Bob and he was a character in his own right. He joked and played around with the kids and even did the same with the characters. They were plenty playful too and spent a little more time with us than we got at other meals. The restaurant also wasn’t very full so we even got to see them twice before we made it all the way around and finished our meal.
R was a little bit hesitant about the characters here again. He did get up for a picture with Pluto, but for the others he just stayed between me and DW. We did meet Dale twice as well, but apparently neither DW or I managed to get pictures with him. I know he was the first character we saw and he came up as we were being seated and played aorund with the kids so I’m guessing we were a bit preoccupied with getting R situated and then when he came back we probably just thought we’d already taken pictures.

48601626157_fb133a6fd0_z.jpg
Bob was very adamant that since we were on the dining plan, we needed to take advantage of the fact that we’d get drinks with our meal and an additional specialty drink or alcoholic beverage. I forget what DW got, but I ordered a Yuengling. I typically don’t really want beer when it is really hot like that... it just makes me feel dehydrated. And we were planning to enjoy a few speciatly beverages around WS later so I really just wanted to hydrate myself up at this point, but when he made me feel like I was being wasteful by not getting one...
Our meal was very good. The kids enjoyed their food and we had to get an extra plate of fries for them. We’ve done this meal twice in the past 6 years or so and I’ve been impressed with it both times. The food there is really good and I like the fact that it is family style rather than buffet so it is just a lot more relaxed. It really is hard to keep going back there when EPCOT is just loaded with so many great restaurants I love and new ones that I’ve yet to try, but I can always make a strong case for going back.
While we were at lunch, I was able to grab a 2pm FP for Test Track. DW had decided she spent long enough without a phone though and was going back to CBR. She said that she’d take R back and try to get him to nap and I could stay at EPCOT with the 2 older kids. Since she was going by herself, we decided to just leave the stroller parked outside the Land Pavilion. I carried R to the front of the park and then we said goodbye. They were off to relax and we were off to have more fun!

As we walked back toward Mouse Gear, guess what had finally opened and was already showing a 45 minute wait?

Oh, yikes. That's not a fun way to start a morning!

I love, love, LOVE when characters are on their A-Game like this, especially Anna and Elsa, who are still two of the most popular characters in WDW now!

Anybody else feel that way about that ride or am I just nuts?

I don't personally feel that way because I only rode Maelstrom once before it became Frozen Ever After. However: I can imagine for someone who had ridden it multiple times before, Frozen Ever After would be a weird experience. I can't think of any other ride in Disney where the exact track stayed the same, but everything else about it was re-themed completely.

Okay, now THIS is a story for the ages! I'm so glad he was reunited with his Croc!!!

Our meal was very good. The kids enjoyed their food and we had to get an extra plate of fries for them. We’ve done this meal twice in the past 6 years or so and I’ve been impressed with it both times. It really is hard to keep going back there when EPCOT is just loaded with so many great restaurants I love and new ones that I’ve yet to try, but I can always make a strong case for going back.

We've never done GG before because we love the WS restaurants so much, but this review may have convinced me to look into it! It sounds like this was a great meal with great character interaction.

Great update!

I need to try Garden Grill. I have heard many good things about it.

I feel your pain on the shoe/screaming issue. Been there/done that...although I was lucky not at WDW...my son was like 8 before I took him there.

Tell L he really earned some brownie points for taking one for the team and doing Anna and Elsa.

I am also very amused by the two littles in the front of your Mael...uh, FEA ride photo.

As usual...I can't wait to read more!

Well that sure does stink that TT wasn't operating at rope drop!

I gotta commend L for at least smiling when meeting the princesses, even if he wasn't thrilled about it!

Ugh, sorry about the rough ride on SE. That was great luck being able to get R's shoe back though!

Great pics from Garden Grill, glad it was a good meal!

Nice score getting a TT FP!

However, we were going to EPCOT today so we chose to take the bus.

Because, World Showcase.
Okay... I'm not getting the connection here?
I hustled everyone out the door to the bus stop. We got there just before our bus pulled up.
Nice! Perfect timing.
In the rush to finish getting ready and leave, she left her phone in the room!

I asked her if she really needed it.

Well... I guess not.

Then don’t worry about it!
Good call. You don't absolutely need a phone. You can make FPs from a kiosk if necessary. No, you can't mobile order of course, but with an ADR, that isn't a problem.
Either she's really quick or you're that slow. Probably both.
We didn’t want to cross the park, as we had FP for the whole morning on this side of the park, so we just chose to stand around waiting.

Awesome.
:sad2:
You used up all your luck with the bus timing.
We ended up standing there until 9:20, which is when our Mission Space Fastpass was good.
Well... I guess it coulda been worse...
The kids ended up really enjoying the ride and were begging to do it again.
Great! Any thought of doing Orange?
As we walked back toward Mouse Gear, guess what had finally opened and was already showing a 45 minute wait?
The Seas with Nemo!!!!

No?
We were already feeling warm and wanted to grab a frozen Coke at the place by Test Track, but it wasn’t even open yet!
"Those people look hot. Maybe we should give them something cool to drink?

Nah."
R was having none of it. I put him down and he went in the corner to hide and pout.
 Sorry, that just strikes me as funny.
B was spending time with princesses and was happy as could be.
I bet!
I must admit... I do very few character meets, but... I'm always impressed with them.
We were not the first to pass that way, nor would we be the last.
nicely done
But the fact that the ride track is still basically the same, I can’t help but think of what used to be there at the different points.
I only rode it once, so I don't have any attachment to (or much memory of) Maelstrom.
Anybody else feel that way about that ride or am I just nuts?
Well, actually...
Ok, don’t answer that last part.
oh. Nevermind, then. Not important.
I immediately turned around to try and ask Elsa if we could have one of Olaf’s personal flurries for the day, but the CM threatened to call security.
Again, what is up with Fastpass lines for some rides now???

We ended up waiting 20 minutes with FP!!!!
That's bordering on standby time...
DW was getting into a car with B and R. As she was getting in, one of R’s Crocs fell off and fell down in front of the car. We didn’t realize this until he started screaming as we were seated and on our way.

Normally, I love the long, relaxing ride through the history of communication on our fine planet.

Oh dear.
I wonder if the echos are still reverberating throughout the dome?
As we were getting off the ride, DW turned around to look and just happened to see his Croc sitting down on part of the ride system at the front of their car. She told a CM and they had a grabber arm thingy that they were able to reach down and retrieve it with.
Saved!
We were scheduled for lunch at Garden Grill!
I've never done that. But after your positive review... considering it.
Maybe I'm the weird one, but there was a chance of rain so I just wanted to go park it, make sure the rain cover was on and stash the bag that we leave with the stroller so that it would stay dry.
No, I get that.
Plus... I want to know exactly where I left it.
I’m going to just say it now, we did 4 character meals this trip. Hands down, this one was the best.
Great! :)
I typically don’t really want beer when it is really hot like that... it just makes me feel dehydrated.
Interesting. I don't drink beer, but I keep hearing "nothing like a cold beer on a hot day" comments.

Joining in!! Just found your report and loving it so far. Sweet R, what a trooper!

Sounds like a great trip so far! My DH would definitely be the one who needs to use the bathroom at a not so great time. I'm surprised Disney hasn't made it so there is one within the RD area! Maybe when the redo EPCOT they will!

Because, World Showcase.

I like the way you think!

The kids and I were ready. That’s all I can say here. Moving on...

:eek::eek:

We got there just before our bus pulled up.

Awesome!

In the rush to finish getting ready and leave, she left her phone in the room!

Oh no! I wouldn't be able to go without my phone but I also am the one who plans everything lol.

As I completely expected when I had to decide a few months ago which Group A FP attraction to ride Standby at Rope Drop, TT would not be opening at Rope Drop.

Naturally!

hey both spent what seemed like a few minutes chatting and interacting with the kids.

Yay! I love good character interactions.

I immediately turned around to try and ask Elsa if we could have one of Olaf’s personal flurries for the day, but the CM threatened to call security.

:rotfl::rotfl:

As she was getting in, one of R’s Crocs fell off and fell down in front of the car. We didn’t realize this until he started screaming as we were seated and on our way.

Ahh oh no!

She told a CM and they had a grabber arm thingy that they were able to reach down and retrieve it with.

Thank goodness!

Maybe I'm the weird one, but there was a chance of rain so I just wanted to go park it, make sure the rain cover was on and stash the bag that we leave with the stroller so that it would stay dry.

I don't think that's weird. Seems very reasonable to me.

I’m going to just say it now, we did 4 character meals this trip. Hands down, this one was the best. From the food, to the service, to the character interaction, this one checked all the boxes.

Garden Grill is one of our favorites too! We always have a good experience.

While we were at lunch, I was able to grab a 2pm FP for Test Track.

Awesome!

I hustled everyone out the door to the bus stop. We got there just before our bus pulled up.

Wow, what good luck! It's too bad your wife forgot her phone. It's tough to be without your phone these days!

As I completely expected when I had to decide a few months ago which Group A FP attraction to ride Standby at Rope Drop, TT would not be opening at Rope Drop.

It's so frustrating when that happens! It feels like you're wasting such valuable park time AND your carefully crafted plan has to go out the window.

As we walked back toward Mouse Gear, guess what had finally opened and was already showing a 45 minute wait?

:headache:

Of course!

Anybody else feel that way about that ride or am I just nuts?

I'm impressed that you remember the original ride so well! I rode and liked Maelstorm, but as I rode it about one time per trip I don't remember the details well. If they chose to overlay Winnie the Pooh or change the set on Carousel of Progress I would be more likely to compare the old and new!

We were going to just have to melt.

I don't know how so many families visit Disney World (well, Central Florida!) in July. I practically feel like I'm melting in June - I don't know that I could take the heat in July!

We ended up waiting 20 minutes with FP!!!!

Good gracious! That's a ridiculous wait time for the SPACESHIP EARTH Fastpass line!

R was reunited with his Croc and was once again happy.

Thank goodness! I thought the shoe was a goner!

Maybe I'm the weird one, but there was a chance of rain so I just wanted to go park it, make sure the rain cover was on and stash the bag that we leave with the stroller so that it would stay dry.

Not weird at all - I'd do the same thing. (I may also have some control issues... :rolleyes1 ) I'd also appreciate knowing where the stroller was parked without having to search for it. (I know they can get moved around, but at least I'd have a better shot if I parked it the first time.)

I’m going to just say it now, we did 4 character meals this trip. Hands down, this one was the best. From the food, to the service, to the character interaction, this one checked all the boxes.

That's great to hear! I keep seeing glowing reviews for Garden Grill, especially for the breakfast with that delicious looking cinnamon roll. I think this may trump Akershus as our Epcot character meal!

While we were at lunch, I was able to grab a 2pm FP for Test Track.

That's great! I'm glad you managed to get Fastpasses after the rope drop plan failed.

However, we were going to EPCOT today so we chose to take the bus.

Because, World Showcase.

:rolleyes1

The kids and I were ready. That’s all I can say here. Moving on...

:rolleyes1

As I completely expected when I had to decide a few months ago which Group A FP attraction to ride Standby at Rope Drop, TT would not be opening at Rope Drop.

Oh. Well, that's awesome.

R was having none of it. I put him down and he went in the corner to hide and pout. L whined and complained about going in to see them, but he was a good sport about it. B was spending time with princesses and was happy as could be.

Why did we have kids again?

After meeting royalty, it was time to go ride Maels... I mean Frozen Ever After. We were not the first to pass that way, nor would we be the last.

Nicely done there.

Nah. My only real thought during the ride was: "Huh. This is the first time this ride has actually made any sense whatsoever."

We ended up waiting 20 minutes with FP!!!!

Stupid tiers.

DW was getting into a car with B and R. As she was getting in, one of R’s Crocs fell off and fell down in front of the car. We didn’t realize this until he started screaming as we were seated and on our way.

Why did we have kids again?

A CM approaches us and offered to take the stroller and park it for us. I told her thanks, but I’d just go do it. She gave me kind of a funny look like she wondered what my problem was.

Maybe I'm the weird one, but there was a chance of rain so I just wanted to go park it, make sure the rain cover was on and stash the bag that we leave with the stroller so that it would stay dry.

I'm sure she was used to 99% of people saying yes. But you're right, they don't make any effort to protect it from the rain, so your thinking was legit.

You do what you gotta do. Yuengling is always a solid choice.

We’ve done this meal twice in the past 6 years or so and I’ve been impressed with it both times. The food there is really good and I like the fact that it is family style rather than buffet so it is just a lot more relaxed.

I'm gonna have to try that one sometime. I usually hear good things.

While we were at lunch, I was able to grab a 2pm FP for Test Track.

Wait, what??? You kind of buried that one. You actually found a FP available for Test Track? I was there a whole week and that never happened for me.

Finally dropping by and catching up - not much to add to the first few updates that hasn't already been said a bunch of times, however!

Our first visit, we stayed at CBR. I remember waiting a bit for buses, but we hardly ever went back mid-day. (Maybe once?) But, it was right after Christmas, so not as crowded. Plus, y'know, many years ago.

Garden Grill was our very first ADR meal, and it still remains a favorite memory. I'm always glad to hear that it still is a good choice.

Oh, yikes. That's not a fun way to start a morning!
It's when things like that happen that I really get frustrated about the time and effort we invest in planning.
I love, love, LOVE when characters are on their A-Game like this, especially Anna and Elsa, who are still two of the most popular characters in WDW now!
::yes:: It seems that more often than not, you hear about how good they are to meet. And from our experience they do tend to be consistently among the best.
I can't say that it was a favorite... it wasn't. But I remember riding it every time we went. I guess that's kind of EPCOT in a nutshell for me. I'm looking forward to all the changes coming, but I remember going to that park in the 80s and 90s. It's changed a lot already since then, but I have all these memories of what it was back then. And in a lot of places I can still see where something I remember used to be. A lot of that is going to change and go away, but FEA will always have the Maelstrom track. :rotfl2:
Okay, now THIS is a story for the ages! I'm so glad he was reunited with his Croc!!!
It saved me probably 30 bucks anyway or whatever the price is for a new pair of Crocs in Mouse Gear!
We've never done GG before because we love the WS restaurants so much, but this review may have convinced me to look into it! It sounds like this was a great meal with great character interaction.
I get it! This one really is a tough one to book just because there are so many great options in EPCOT! We have really enjoyed it when we've done it though and I think it is worth a try if you can fit it in!
Great update!

I need to try Garden Grill. I have heard many good things about it.
Thanks! GG really is one of our favorites. We've only gone a couple of times, but it has been fantastic both times!
I feel your pain on the shoe/screaming issue. Been there/done that...although I was lucky not at WDW...my son was like 8 before I took him there.
R tends to get upset like that over some very minor things. Losing a shoe was pretty close to the equivalent of the end of the world.
Tell L he really earned some brownie points for taking one for the team and doing Anna and Elsa.
::yes:: He whined a lot about it, but he did suck it up and make the best of it.
I am also very amused by the two littles in the front of your Mael...uh, FEA ride photo.
:rotfl2::rotfl:

DW's sister took their family in June. Our nephew, who I thought would love the wildest craziest rides, hated everything. They could get him on a few of the slower paced dark rides. Well, they didn't realize FEA had a drop. His FEA picture is pretty similar. He flipped out on the drop!!!
As usual...I can't wait to read more!
Thank you!
Well that sure does stink that TT wasn't operating at rope drop!
::yes:: I think I almost come to expect that now. The last 2 times we planned to RD TT, this happened.
I gotta commend L for at least smiling when meeting the princesses, even if he wasn't thrilled about it!
::yes:: He whined a lot, but at least he went along with it.
Ugh, sorry about the rough ride on SE. That was great luck being able to get R's shoe back though!
::yes:: I was sure it was gone. I was just trying to figure out if we needed to backtrack to Mouse Gear or if we might be able to find somewhere on our way to buy a new pair of Crocs.
Great pics from Garden Grill, glad it was a good meal!
Thank you! We really enjoyed it!
Nice score getting a TT FP!
::yes:: I was hoping to find Soarin, but when I saw TT available I jumped right on it!

Okay... I'm not getting the connection here?
Bus? World Showcase? Let me draw a picture...

:drinking1
Nice! Perfect timing.
::yes::
Good call. You don't absolutely need a phone. You can make FPs from a kiosk if necessary. No, you can't mobile order of course, but with an ADR, that isn't a problem.
She didn't need it. I had mine and I was doing all the FPs and mobile ordering anyway!
Either she's really quick or you're that slow. Probably both.
She usually gets upset with me for walking too fast. But let's be real here... when you're in the middle of a sea of humanity, trying to keep track of 3 kids and push a stroller, you're not going to be moving very fast.
:sad2:
You used up all your luck with the bus timing.
That wasn't luck! That was skill! I used the app to look like you taught me to do!
Well... I guess it coulda been worse...
I could always be worse. Unless it can't. Then I don't really want to know about it.
Great! Any thought of doing Orange?
I've done it before. I survived and really didn't feel bad after riding and that was probably 7 or 8 years ago, most recently. But I do have some issues with motion simulator type rides and they can screw me up so I kind of hesitate to do it unless I'm riding with someone else and they just really want to ride Orange. Factor that into the equation along with the fact that L & B had never ridden and I didn't know how they'd do, and the fact that I hadn't seen the new green side "Earth orbit" before this trip it just made it an easy call to stick with green side.
The Seas with Nemo!!!!

No?
No.... Figment, duh!
"Those people look hot. Maybe we should give them something cool to drink?

Nah."
I realize this was before 11 am, but it was also summer! I mean a frozen beverage would have really hit the spot right then. And that's my preferred method of caffeine delivery over a stupid, nasty iced coffee.
 Sorry, that just strikes me as funny.
It kind of was! He just didn't really like the face characters at all.
I must admit... I do very few character meets, but... I'm always impressed with them.
::yes:: They seem to consistently be very good!
nicely done
:thumbsup2
I only rode it once, so I don't have any attachment to (or much memory of) Maelstrom.
I really don't have much attachment to it. I was never upset and I didn't have a problem with the change. But I do remember the ride as I grew up riding it every trip! We've seen rides change and buildings repurposed, but having the same exact track layout that has always been there just kind of makes it hard for me to forget what it used to be.
Well, actually...
Hey now!
That's bordering on standby time...
Actually, standby was posted at... 20 minutes. They had the FP queue in the switchbacks on the left side, the standby queue in the switchbacks on the right side and they were merging them in the middle.
Oh dear.
I wonder if the echos are still reverberating throughout the dome?
I'm sure they are.
I've never done that. But after your positive review... considering it.
We really do like it. It's just so daggone hard to schedule it in there when you have so many really good options in EPCOT!
No, I get that.
Plus... I want to know exactly where I left it.
That last part is a big factor too! That's a big stroller parking area and if you don't at least know the general area where it is parked it can be tricky.
Interesting. I don't drink beer, but I keep hearing "nothing like a cold beer on a hot day" comments.
I enjoy beer. A cold beer when spending time outside at the pool or grilling is almost mandatory. But when it is hot out and I'm sweating/working/doing anything physically demanding, that just isn't the drink I want. I was planning to partake in the World Showcase, but later in the day, hopefully after the heat of the afternoon was letting up and it was going to be while taking things at a relaxed pace. If I drink a beer when I'm hot and I'm thirsty because I need hydration it just makes me even more thirsty.
Joining in!! Just found your report and loving it so far. Sweet R, what a trooper!
:welcome: Thanks for joining! He really is...
Sounds like a great trip so far! My DH would definitely be the one who needs to use the bathroom at a not so great time. I'm surprised Disney hasn't made it so there is one within the RD area! Maybe when the redo EPCOT they will!
If I recall on our last trip, the RD area was all the way out by the Electric Umbrella, so the restrooms by Spaceship Earth were in there. That's what we kind of expected when we went in, but when we walked towards them and saw the rope before Spaceship Earth it kind of caught us by surprise.

I like the way you think!
:thumbsup2 :drinking1
Oh no! I wouldn't be able to go without my phone but I also am the one who plans everything lol.
I was doing all the planning so we were safe there. :thumbsup2
Naturally!
Never fails... I think this has happened the last 2 times we planned for TT at RD.
Yay! I love good character interactions.
::yes:: These 2 consistently seem to be really good too!
Thank goodness!
Would have been nice if we had caught it before the ride got away from the load station, but better late than never, I guess.
I don't think that's weird. Seems very reasonable to me
Well, I wouldn't have thought it was that weird, but the CM looked at me like I was crazy. Oh well.
Garden Grill is one of our favorites too! We always have a good experience.
::yes:: It's hard to pick it when there are so many good options in EPCOT, but it really can stand on its own against about any of them!
::yes:: I was pretty happy that I lucked into that one!
Wow, what good luck! It's too bad your wife forgot her phone. It's tough to be without your phone these days!
We live through those things, it seems!
It's so frustrating when that happens! It feels like you're wasting such valuable park time AND your carefully crafted plan has to go out the window.
::yes:: Exactly! That's the most frustrating thing about the entire planning process. You put in all that effort, craft the perfect plan, and then...
:headache:

Of course!
My luck.
I'm impressed that you remember the original ride so well! I rode and liked Maelstorm, but as I rode it about one time per trip I don't remember the details well. If they chose to overlay Winnie the Pooh or change the set on Carousel of Progress I would be more likely to compare the old and new!
I'll be honest, I don't remember every last detail. It was a "once a visit" ride. I definitely remember the track layout though and where some of the main points were in the ride.
I don't know how so many families visit Disney World (well, Central Florida!) in July. I practically feel like I'm melting in June - I don't know that I could take the heat in July!
Honestly, it doesn't bother me too much. It is hot, but we plan for it and prepare accordingly. There are moments that you just have to get in the shade or AC, but overall, it's not too big a deal to me.
Good gracious! That's a ridiculous wait time for the SPACESHIP EARTH Fastpass line!
::yes:: Matched the posted standby wait!
Thank goodness! I thought the shoe was a goner!
I was already working on figuring out where we were going to buy the next pair of Crocs.
Not weird at all - I'd do the same thing. (I may also have some control issues... :rolleyes1 ) I'd also appreciate knowing where the stroller was parked without having to search for it. (I know they can get moved around, but at least I'd have a better shot if I parked it the first time.)
Control issues... I'm sure that had nothing to do with it :rolleyes1 That's a good point! The Land has a huge stroller parking area. Even if they move them, they usually don't move them very far so it does help to at least know the general vicinity of where the stroller is parked.
That's great to hear! I keep seeing glowing reviews for Garden Grill, especially for the breakfast with that delicious looking cinnamon roll. I think this may trump Akershus as our Epcot character meal!
I love the breakfast potatoes at Akershus though! And I'm a big fan of the lunch/dinner at GG. But I've always been a sucker for a good cinnamon roll.
That's great! I'm glad you managed to get Fastpasses after the rope drop plan failed.
::yes:: That was a lucky break!

Hi Andy, I am joining in for your TR!

Glad the drive down wasn't so bad. I'll take note on that Holiday Inn in LBV - it does not sound great at all.

Your family's first [arks days sound very fun! I love all the character photos from Chef Mickey's and Garden Grill.

Excited to read more!!

Bus? World Showcase? Let me draw a picture...

:drinking1
Ah! Thanks for connecting the dots.
She didn't need it. I had mine and I was doing all the FPs and mobile ordering anyway!
Exactly. So... let it go.
She usually gets upset with me for walking too fast. But let's be real here... when you're in the middle of a sea of humanity, trying to keep track of 3 kids and push a stroller, you're not going to be moving very fast.
Yeah... no offense, but you're usually the kind of person I skirt around at high speed.
That wasn't luck! That was skill! I used the app to look like you taught me to do!
;)
I've done it before. I survived and really didn't feel bad after riding and that was probably 7 or 8 years ago, most recently. But I do have some issues with motion simulator type rides and they can screw me up so I kind of hesitate to do it unless I'm riding with someone else and they just really want to ride Orange. Factor that into the equation along with the fact that L & B had never ridden and I didn't know how they'd do, and the fact that I hadn't seen the new green side "Earth orbit" before this trip it just made it an easy call to stick with green side.
I get all that. I can handle orange, but... it can also make me feel sick. I won't ride it if I can help it. Same with you, I'll do it if someone else in the party insists on it.
No.... Figment, duh!
 Of course!
a frozen beverage would have really hit the spot right then. And that's my preferred method of caffeine delivery over a stupid, nasty iced coffee.
Yes! I'm exactly the same.
Actually, standby was posted at... 20 minutes. They had the FP queue in the switchbacks on the left side, the standby queue in the switchbacks on the right side and they were merging them in the middle.
:sad2:
"Dear Disney... you're doing it wrong."
If I drink a beer when I'm hot and I'm thirsty because I need hydration it just makes me even more thirsty.
Huh. I never would've thought that.

After our bus experience on our first day, I was already at the point of swearing off the bus system and just driving to the parks.
Last April I rented a car for the first time, because of our increasing frustration with the buses. Despite the added cost, I thought it was worth it.

I’m going to just say it now, we did 4 character meals this trip. Hands down, this one was the best. From the food, to the service, to the character interaction, this one checked all the boxes.
I’ve done a bunch of character meals but never Garden Grill. I’ve read good things about it so I’m tempted to try it.
