Hurricane Dorian / WDW Theme Parks Discussion

Just a reminder that this thread is on the Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies Board.

Discussion of the storm’s impact on the theme parks, tickets, WDW trip planning, how/if you are modifying your plans, options Disney is providing to folks, how to handle modifying plans, etc, are all welcome. This is information that is useful to folks as they determine what is best in their own individual circumstances.

This is not a thread for debating if a poster should or shouldn’t travel, storm strength predictions, or topics not directly relevant to the WDW theme parks.

Post #3 has links to various other threads on the DIS that have a more broad discussion focus.

Thank you.
Im going to just echo this. There's need to judge what other people do or don't do

So we were supoosed to fly out on Tues at 10 am..
. As of now Orlando has shut down airport starting on Monday. I am pretty freaked out. Staying at All Star and worried about riding out the hurricane here. From Ohio so this is all new to us
We are coming from Pa, supposed to fly out early Tuesday morning also to stay at All Star Sports. Decided yesterday we are going to fly out Sunday instead. Disney was really great about adding the 2 extra nights.

I have been following channel 9 news out of Orlando, with Meteorologists Tom Terry, and Brian Shields. All of my local friends swore by them. So far I have liked how much detail they give.

We will continue to be driving down Thursday through western/central Georgia. There are 7 of us on a family vacation that is just too hard to reschedule, especially if it might not be necessary. It looks like our main concern now is that the current tracking map has Dorian skirting the barrier islands of Georgia Thursday morning about 1 am. We will be no where near them, but if they use I-75 as an evacuation route we may not be able to get too far south of Macon. Although we had planned on driving all the way to Orlando, will just get as far as we can on Thursday and continue early Friday morning. We are hopeful and prayerful-

Mike's Weather Page on FB is the best no nonsense source to follow

This mornings projections are looking more positive for Disney. Right now looking like airport closure was premature. Still time for things to change of course

I agree about Mike’s weather page being rock solid info. He does an excellent job getting the info and putting it out there factually without instilling fear or panic.

When I first found Mike’s fb page he would be getting about 200 people viewing his livestream - last night on his 9:30pm stream there were 33.7k people joined in & getting some great information!

Brian Shields is by far my favorite, he tells it like it is, no nonsense, no hype, no gloom and doom. He's also great once it comes to kids, he will take a second and speak to them in terms they understand.

We are supposed to fly out Wednesday from Memphis. Also never had any experience like this. Still waiting on updates to decide any changes. Even in best case scenarios, Tuesday looks bad. Have you considered moving to Thursday maybe? We are considering that, too. Even then, this is going to be a very stormy, rainy, wet trip.

I hate that about hurricanes! You watch and discuss for DAYS and then the unexpected happens.
that's why you can't really panic, I know it's hard but it's the truth with these storms. When I reaad people going to buy supplies on Wednesday I was surprised, way to early, but I understand that some people have ever been through this, especially visiting WDW it has to be very stressful

Definitely. I realized this summer I was completely unprepared and had to cut my trip short to come home and deal with Hurricane Barry aka the Storm That Never Happened! We haven't had a storm here in a long time. People here panicked big time. I think they had a lot of anxiety since Baton Rouge flooded in 2016.

At least now I have enough batteries to last through next year, too. lol.

We still haven’t decided if we should leave or not. Dh is putting all of the shutters up right now. I’m wondering how late would be too late to leave. This might sound bad but since Disney won’t give me a great rate for tonight I’m tempted not to leave until tomorrow. Does that seem crazy?

Dh is worried about getting out of here because there have already been car wrecks

I honestly think you have time. Why don't you give yourself until tonight to watch the models and decide?

Evacuation plans are rarely perfect. Leaving later can mean much longer on the road. That's an important thing to consider. Maybe decide together when to make a go or no go decision?
Sending some good thoughts your way, these things are stressful.

Don't know if seen the track for this morning but the storm is now heading towards Georgia/South Carolina. Thursday is the day it's scheduled to arrive. The track can still change but if it holds, driving through Georgia may not be possible.
