Leaving your stuff behind in resort laundry rooms? Is this a new thing?

I love not creating more waste by reusing and sharing. Yeah partially eaten food isn't cool but I am good with sealed containers, clothes, hygiene and sundries....
I wonder if the same people who think I shouldn’t have a straw at Disney would also be in favor of throwing these things out rather than trying to find a use for them.

Leaving unopened sundries, misting fans, things of that nature - sure, share the wealth.

But clothing and shoes? I'd think you should bring them home rather than leave on a laundry room counter at a hotel.

I agree on any clothing/shoes that are used. I'm talking about unopened items like bottled water etc.

A LOT of the items on that picture were open toiletries, not unopened items. Think halfway used shampoo (HUGE bottle), open sunscreen, old sandals.

It's totally cool to gift unopened beverages, water and snacks. It's another matter to leave for someone else to clean up your open, personal toiletries and your used clothes and shoes.

I disagree a bit when you say it isn’t hurting anyone. Someone has to clean up others mess. Not very considerate IMHO
From other posts it sounds like CM are offering in some cases to deal with unwanted goods, so at least this is a centralized area to clean instead of dealing with things being left all over the place. I imagine this is easier to clean, than if people left closets full of goods in each room, for instance.

I think this is a sign of a throw-away society (with the ability to buy very inexpensive goods) and a side effect of airline luggage fees. Yes, they may not be technically throwing things away, but they are saying "We bought these things and they aren't even worth bringing home to us." Things like clothes, shoes, umbrella strollers sound like inexpensive items you buy at Walmart just for the trip and then leave behind because it was cheaper to buy them at Walmart and leave them behind than to pay to transport them to and fro.

I want to clarify that I'm not trying to sound judge-y at all here. :) I just meant it very literally. That a $14.99 stroller could cost more than that to bring home or to bring to WDW in the first place.

I don't think the CM's have a choice. Their job is to keep the resorts clean, tidy, and somewhat...bug free. That job additionally includes public areas where people are leaving personal items.

I disagree with both of your posts. It is totally self centered to behave in the manner you describe. Staff now needs to deal with inconsiderate guests left behinds vs that guest taking care of their own trash.
If I had bottled water, for example, I offer it to Bell Services directly. They are usually very grateful. I don’t just dump things somewhere.

We had leftover water last trip and mentioned to bell services that we had it and if they wanted it. They said no - not enough room to store it and encouraged us to leave it at th vending machines, pool, or laundry room

It's trashy and people think they are being kind to room service/resort staff by leaving them "gifts" (aka their half used or unclean items) as a tip, when really it is just tacky and embarrassing. Your trash is not a tip to mousekeeping and they most likely don't need it. My last trip I had unused unopened waters and food and I found other resort guests that would happily take it. I didn't leave my trash strewn about the room and then brag online how charitable I am for leaving my unwanted used items for mousekeeping to most likely dispose of. That's just me though.

I throw all food away but I do ask bell services if they want my water. They always seem happy and appreciative. If not I’ll just throw it away.

I also don’t think people are self centered or inconsiderate when leaving things in the laundry room. They could easily trash it but they think it could help someone else. And from what others have stated, people do grab the stuff and make use of it.

I’ve never left things in the laundry room. It never occurred to me and if it did I’m probably too lazy on check out day to make an extra trip down there. But I would have never thought about it being left to CM to clean it up.

Then after my next trip, I'll post you my half used sunscreen, third of a bottle of shower gel and bottle of lotion with maybe an inch left. I'm sure you can find a use for them ;)

Perhaps you missed my follow up post where I agreed that was best only for new unopened items.

Seems like it’d be easier to leave unopened food, strollers, etc just outside your door with a note saying please take me or something similar and post it on social media/here. I see posts on a Universal fb group saying I left xyz outside this room and often someone replies saying either they got it or its already gone.

Didn’t see the picture, but just curious how people know the clothes are “up for grabs” versus something someone accidentally left in the dryer or fell on the floor and will be coming back to find? If I saw clothing in the laundry room I would assume the owner will be back. And actually if not for this post I would assume the owner would be back for their stroller, fan or whatever. Some of the things listed I would find strange to be sitting in the laundry room, but I would still feel hesitant to take them.

Disney is full of self-centered people. You and I encounter them every day, multiple times. I have plenty of examples from my very short, 3 park days trip.
