What is going on with Disney parks?

Each person is different. I like booking our dining first then working our FP's around that. But that's just me.

Not just you. I do dining reservations and then fast passes. But maybe because that's the order you are allowed to do them in. :)

at 60 days when I do my FP's then I adjust ADR's if I have to and am able to make the changes. We don't do expensive restaurants or character meals.

Odd, it says right in that article the sold out parties are above average so far (for this time of year). Seems to me that the crowds aren’t low compared to the past parties but rather not as tightly packed them in as they want them to be which is disheartening.
You'd have to keep in mind there are more parties (they start in mid-August--anyone's guess as to what next year's starting date will be).

You can have more sell out dates but yet have more parties than you want to with not enough people in them (well no enough according to Disney).

Good point, I didn’t consider that. Fingers crossed Disney has noticed some limit to how many parties and the like they can reasonably expect the public to pay to attend.

Interesting their strategy is pushing more heavily to the monorail guests instead of a financial incentive. Wonder how well it works.

I think crowds/attendance will probably be fine Oct. - Dec. We may just be seeing the September lows.

After cancelling my mid-October trip, I am trying to book a early November (first or second weekend) trip for just the wife and I and I can't find any availability in the Disney resorts, except the campsites. (Granted, I am looking over weekends, one of which is a holiday).

Plus, you can just check availability every once in awhile before you take your trip. I already had two preopening character meals reservations that I was able to change to even earlier reservations at ten and four days before the trip started because someone canceled. Same with FP+ where I was able to get better times FOP and SDD just by checking every few days to see if anything had opened up. I don't think many people realize that dining and FP+ reservations get canceled constantly.
You can do this but shouldn't need to because Disney changes hours or because you can't get FP at 60 days out to align with reservations you made 120 days prior. This is what I find frustrating. And it does require stalking and persistance, especially for the harder to book places like Ohana. TP reservation finder is great but you better be paying attention to your phone or someone else will snatch it up. And I don't want to spend my time at the parks stalking the app waiting for someone to drop their reservation the day before. This may not be complex but it is a hassle. Once I am done my plans, I want to be done and enjoy the moments in the park! And I would venture to say that most of us that plan start with the reservations and build our FP from them because the system makes us.

question is, is it down from last sept.

I don't want to sound like a jerk or anything but something that has me making fewer trips are the guests. People have lost self awareness. They walk across you with their face in the phone or stopping in the middle of a walkway instead of getting off to the side. It has become stressful just walking. You cant go from one location to another without making 20 sudden stops.

To the casual observer (me, lol) it seems that way. I wonder if factor could also be WDW staffing the parks and running attractions anticipating much higher crowds than normal because of SWGE but they never came.

Yeah, I think in the MNSSHP thread there were two sell-outs in the past week?

The one thing new this year is a multi-party pass like Universal does. Maybe they're keeping spots open for those passholders which is reducing actual attendance on "sold out" nights?

That was me. I’m sorry. puckerup:

JK. It’s a pet peeve of my own and yet my own family was guilty of doing it last week.

Honestly I see that everywhere. I totally get your frustration but if I avoided that I wouldn't be able to leave my house. I encounter it at the grocery store, food places, festivals, etc unfortunately. People stopping in the middle of a walkway predates cell phones though it might have become more common these days.

I complain about people stopping right in front of me in the middle of a walkway all the time, then I catch my self doing it🤦‍♀️

Absolutely. I find myself taking more relaxing vacations these days. Dropped my AP and go to Disney on occasion now.

It's totally a pet peeve of mine and I catch myself too every now and then. I immediately correct and am like "we need to get out of the way" lol I really do try. It's bound to happen every now and then.

I think there are just completely oblivious people out there (and it takes the rest of us to be on our game more --you know the ones that stop in the middle of the walkway, escalator, elevator, even in a line instead of keeping up with people. They are also the people who never look around them and suddenly bump into you or run you down when they are walking backwards or moving to the side. *sigh* they're everywhere :faint:

Last year when we went to Jamaica, a totally relaxing vacation, it was extremely low crowd in Negril (we went over Labor Day weekend) like no one else was in the restaurants but us most times and would you believe it at the resort which didn't have too many people staying there at that time we still ran into those types of people. Like really you're walking to the beach down just a few steps and you gotta just randomly stop!? :confused3 Not to mention the rum plantation tour. I'm convinced there's just no hope though I will say it was marginally better at one of the waterfall areas we went..probably because you know people's actual safety with running water, slippery rocks, etc was at risk but who knows lol.

Anyways sorry to blabber on; just know I get you!

I can't quantify it either but I find people are less "in the moment" than they might have been in the past. Staring at a screen, on the phone, trying to take a selfie, videoing something instead of watching & experiencing it... just seems to remove any and all situational awareness.

A busy day at Magic Kingdom or Disney Springs is even worse than people stopping in / blocking aisles at Costco though, and I feel that's saying something ;) Your entire family shouldn't be walking shoulder to shoulder such that me, a single person trying to get food/drink/whatever for my family can't get around you! :crazy2:

-Cabins $3300
-Gran Destino Club Level Suite $4600
^Those come with QS DDP ($25 per person per nite to upgrade one TS daily)
