January 2020 Discounts

If there’s no availability for your resort online, have y’all had success calling and getting cm to apply discount?

Wow if that Free Kids dining thing really replaced SPD that seems like a huge blow!

Also...I'm a little sad that I won't have to do my big SPD thread this year... maybe it's the end of an era for me, lol!

It really is a big, surprising change. I had fun starting to plan out additional table service restaurants we'd try with it - but my original plan was without it, so we'll still have a great vacation. It is a really big change to past discounts though.

Grrrr....I can't modify my existing reservation online, the hold time when I called in was 2 hours, and it's not letting me even attempt to make a new reservation online. How are you guys managing this? I don't want to wait until I get home this afternoon to call in, but perhaps that's what I'll have to do...

So for my dates 1/5-1/11 I'm seeing the same pricing for the AP and the normal discount. Anybody else seeing this, especially Boardwalk?

I did not sadly :( poly still has rooms available for our dates at rack but never showed discount even before 7am... if I add 2 nights it does have the discount (for all the nights go figure) her reasoning did not make sense to me but I gave up lol

On the gift cards, the website states that you get one per person, but then it contradicts itself in the details section by stating one gift card per reservation. Anyone know which is correct? I have 5 people on my reservation so I either get $30 or $150.

At a value resort for a family of 4 with 2 younger kids on a 7 night package this means your discount is over $100 less. That's not an insignificant difference. Of course it would be a larger difference with an older kid or longer stay.

I wonder if they finally decided that the whole SPD thing was way too confusing for people (it seriously took me hours to dissect it the first year). It's wild but perhaps this smaller but simpler discount will actually get more bites than a larger discount that people couldn't understand. I really think that could play a factor.

it's crazy, the only all star that i see availability for is Music, and with Gift of Magic offer it's $220 night! (Coronado and Port Orleans are cheaper than that! :rotfl2:) I already have a Movies res for about $110/night... guess I'll be keeping that!

Oh my! Is it at least a Family Suite?

I booked an AP deal at Boardwalk for the end of January/beginning of february and the only room that had a discount at all was the garden cottage, it was a massive discount and still put me in my budget range so I took it (I had wanted garden view, but I'll take it), but with the regular discount there was nothing at boardwalk not even the room I grabbed with the AP discount. It's weird since when I look with no discount all room categories are open, I guess they aren't concerned with filling rooms there.

I've been on hold for an hour. What is the AP discount?
I have analyzed the offers for my party:
1) AP discount on rooms, TBD
2) Canadian discount on tickets for 3 ~adults, 2 kids = $600 saved compared to regular Disney prices, $400 compared to Undercover Tourist.
3) $10 savings per night per room on two rooms at AoA for five nights for Gift of Magic, so saves $100, plus gains $180 in gift cards--but might lose the ticket savings and might even require me, an APP holder to buy a ticket?
4) Kids Dine Free saves me $28 per day for two kids for five days, or $280, but looks like I'd lose my current AP discount on our AoA rooms and have to buy $3000 in theme-park tickets instead of $2400 Canadian discount tickets.
5) $450 Gift of Magic savings on two nights at BWI CL, plus $180 in gift cards, so $630 saved....but lose the $610 savings on Canadian ticket discount if we have to buy regular-price tickets.

So, it might all be a wash for me, unless there is an AP discount for BWI? Right now I'm paying $828+tax rack rate for two nights...Have I missed anything?

We did miss something: CANADIAN ROOM DISCOUNT.
Saved $212 on AoA rooms, and $470 on BWI CL (same as AP discount)!

I think that might mean that it will all be combined into one gift card. So instead of getting 5 individual emails/barcodes, you would get one with the total amount.

This is complete speculation though!

How does one get gift cards? Which deal is that for?

They are part of the Gift of Magical Stay discount. If you add a 6 day ticket to your room to make it a package you get a $30 gift card per person in your room.

Praise God! Got the 35% annual pass discount at the Yacht club, we already had an original reservation for the Beach Club and they were only showing club level available. She was able though to get us the Yacht club lagoo/pool view for 10 days. This is for our daughter's Disney wedding in January. I hope you all get a discount, or another discount comes out soon. Was thinking Play, stay and dine was going to be out also. Maybe it still will.

Finally was able to get through online, make a new reservation, and cancel my old one. Not nearly the discount we were hoping for but our 20th anniversary at AKL is a go!

"You’ll receive one Disney Gift Card (with the combined value) via e-mail at check-in"
