Restaurant at MK Resort

We will be going to an After Hours event at Magic Kingdom in March (Spring Break). My thought is that we will go to dinner at a MK resort at about 5 in order to be done and on the way to MK for the 7pm entry. I plan to leave the car at the resort for easy access at the end of the night. My kids will be 12 and 15 and are not that into characters, so I am not looking for a character experience, but would like something fun and unique. Right now I have a reservation at Whispering Canyon in Wilderness and at 'Ohana at the Polynesian, both at 5pm. We went to Whispering Canyon once years ago when the kids were younger and enjoyed it, have never been to 'Ohana (or the Polynesian). I am trying to decide which reservation to keep, or if somewhere totally different would be better. Here are my current thoughts.

Wilderness - less expensive as my super picky 12 year old could order a burger from the kids menu, and the overall prices are less than 'Ohana. Fun atmosphere (maybe? Heard it has been toned down?). - Downside, have been before so not a new experience, though my son doesn't remember it from before. Have to wait on the boat. Does the boat run at 1am when the event is over??? Do you have to bus it if it is storming? I don't want to get stranded at MK at 1am.

'Ohana - never been. Will be much more expensive as all will be charged as adults and my son will eat very little of what is brought. So basically paying $60 for him to eat noodles and maybe ask for something quick service for him, which I hear they will do. My daughter will enjoy the food. Never been to the restaurant or the Poly. On the monorail so should be easy in and out of MK. Downside - Cost - Is it too "young" an experience for my kids to enjoy? They are not going to get up and do the races and dance and that kind of thing. Is it a waste of $180 if they aren't interested in participating?

Other ideas for an enjoyable, unique experience? We are only doing 1 or 2 after dark experiences, no regular park tickets and staying offsite, so this will be the only Disney dining experience for us this trip. We have been 2x before though and they are at an age they like Disney but prefer Universal.

There's Kona at the Poly.
The Wave or CA Grille at the contemporary.

Depending on how busy the resorts/parks are they might redirect you to parking at the TTC. While they might not STOP you from leaving your car at the resort, it's technically a no no.

I love both of your choices and we have eaten at both many times. If its a cost thing that you should eat at WC. I have it east. Ohana is our favorite place to eat and the girls seriously do damage to the place when eating. You can seriously have fun still at WC a friend who ate there recently said a lot of the fun is back. There is one drawback to the Poly. The girls are now requesting the hotel to stay at next time. Sigh I have a serious time telling them no.

So, I know what restaurants are available, I am really looking for what people recommend for the combination of food and experience. Would you recommend one of those?

It isn’t as much a cost thing as a cost for the experience. Do you think my kids would enjoy the experience at ‘Ohana? Or do you think they are too old? How old are yours?

I think the two you picked would be good on the experiential side, but personally I prefer the ambience of the Poly for everything.

We enjoyed Ohana as adults/teens for experience, and my VERY picky now 21 year old ate noodles and I think some steak, not very much and no other items. However, for us it was definitely a one and done, too pricey for what I can get for less at home at any brazilian steakhouse basically.

Well the last trip they were 18 and 10. And the 10 year old still did the coconut thing and both girls really loved the food and they shopped till they dropped while waiting on the table.

The WC and OHana are both on my favorite restaurant list. You can not go wrong choosing either one.

If you go to the poly I'd just park at ttc and walk over - they didn't run the monorail for our last DAH event and we were at the poly, I think we ended up taking the bus (but the ferry to TTC was an option too)

The food at both is mediocre, IMHO. My DS12 still enjoys the antics at WCC but could care less about the entertainment at 'Ohana. In fact, during our last meal at 'Ohana, they didn't do the coconut races at all. I would pick the one that's most convenient for the event which, IMHO, would be Poly. Park at TTC, walk to Poly for dinner and then go back to TTC at the end of the event. Even more convenient would be a reservation at CR where you could valet park your car and walk back and forth to the event.

What is CR?

The Wave at the Contemporary Resort. Good food, reasonable pricing and within walking distance from MK.

We have done both your options.
We LOVED O'hana the first twice (2010 / 2011) but when we went in 2017, it was really really not as good, and the kids ate hardly anything.
I liked WCC, they also have some new food options that look to be improvements?
I love Wilderness Lodge though, so that edges it for me.
HOWEVER
if transport is an issue, before, or after the event. Then the Wave is *lovely*. The food was a really special experience compared to regular Disney food, it was delicious, and very reasonably priced. PLUS you can walk to and from MK.

Ok, now I may have to consider the wave. How far is the walk? Is it closer than if we just parked in the MK parking lot? I just remember the walk to the parking lot at MK to be forever! Not something I really want to do at 1:00am!

The contemporary isn't that far (I've never walked it), but I would valet park the car, it's not that much more than parking at the TTC.
