Candy Cane Inn?

I've read a ton of the threads here and elsewhere online to decide on a hotel for our first Disneyland trip in September.

I finally settled on the Candy Cane Inn but I'm looking for reviews from people who have stayed there. What did you like/not like about it? How long of a walk was it in the morning? I've looked at all the maps but I'm really hope for first hand experience lol

Loved it! Its a cute place, with friendly staff and clean rooms. The walk was easy in the morning, but they have a frequent shuttle as well. (That was great at the end of the day, when everyone's feet were tired!) Nice little breakfast to fuel your day. We've stayed there twice, and it is the top of our list if we aren't staying on site.

Hubby and I stayed there back in September and it was great. It's a really cute little hotel. Check-in was a little slow, and we were early, so our room wasn't ready yet, but they held our luggage and we took the shuttle to Downtown Disney for some lunch. There's a 7-11 next door, so we had Slurpees in the pool in the afternoon. :-)
The shuttle is nice, but the walk is totally doable. We made it a game to see if we could beat the shuttle!
The breakfast was good. Nothing fancy, but some nice options, and we were satisfied.
When we go with our kids, we generally prefer a little more room (my kids are thrashers, so I prefer to not have to share a bed with them! ) But I'd certainly stay there again.

Thank you both! These are the reviews I was hoping for lol.

Having a 7/11 next door sounds extremely convenient! I love my fountain Diet Coke lol.

Here's a Candy Cane Inn thread from last year. https://www.disboards.com/threads/report-on-recent-stay-at-candy-cane-inn-aug-7-10.3764509/

I'm planning a visit there this May so can report back then. I did let the reservation agent know of my disappointment last year with the darker room. I was told that between then and now there have been some small refurbishments but that she would make note. I realize now that I forgot to ask about flooring. Hoping by now maybe the standard rooms have laminate flooring. Could someone update us about this? Thank you :)

My main CCI wish besides laminate flooring (to me that is cleaner than carpet) is that they would expand their breakfast to include simple hot items such as Mickey pancakes or scrambled eggs and hash browns.

Hope this all helps and that you have a wonderful time at DL.

I'm pretty sure the room was carpeted last Sept. But I couldn't be sure. I also think I found a breakfast croissant sandwich that I heated up in the microwave. I could be wrong, as always, Disney is exhausting, but I'm pretty sure I did.

I stayed there in November and had laminate flooring in a Deluxe Room. I talked to the front desk about it, and she said that the Deluxe Rooms have all been refurbished with laminate flooring and that they'd be starting on the regular rooms soon.

Hey, girlfriend! :) I know we've had laminate flooring in the Premium Rooms. Glad to hear from the pp that the Deluxe Rooms also have laminate flooring. (So it sounds like progress is being made!) As for hot items for breakfast, we bring some items to keep in the room fridge to heat on our own. Maybe you could bring some favorite items from home? So glad to hear you have an upcoming trip planned! :)

Thank you all very much! I am glad to hear the laminate is extending to regular rooms. I'll have to call CCI to check on that for my trip. I really am a CCI fan, always wonderful customer service+love the soft beds especially after a long day of walking!

:) Good to see you luckyrabbit and thank you. Going for my birthday. Good idea to heat something up. I definitely use the fridge for bottles of water!

I’ve stayed there twice. It’s ok but the walk is far and the rooms are tiny and dated. I know they have different room options and I chose the cheapest but seriously, rooms are TINY. I wouldn’t pay more for bigger rooms because that would make the cost more than staying across the street from entrance and that doesn’t make sense to me. I also didn’t have luck with the shuttle that everyone says is so reliable. One night it was late showing up to take us back and another night it didn’t show up at all until we called to find out where they were. I wouldn’t stay there again when there are many other closer options. The only reason I stayed a second time was because we were doing other things in the area and didn’t need to be close every day and I booked last minute and they were the only ones with availability.

I don't get it. I always stay at Ayres Orange. It is 3 miles away, super nice, free real breakfast, cost less than Candy Cane inn, free hotel parking, and we park at Mickey and Friends. And the price is lower so even with parking fee it is same price as CCI but totally nicer. Ayres has cheapest pricing on their site. For each of my trips I am averaging $124 a night. There is the Anaheim transit shuttle that stops at a sister hotel ALO next door too. Small fee. We don't bother with that though personally.

I stayed in a premium room on my last trip, it was nice as you could have breakfast brought to your room filling out a checklist of things (like bagels or a ham/cheese croissant). Also the premium rooms have a later checkout time, 2pm, which meant we could relax in the room for a bit after a morning in the park, before checking out and spending more time in the park before the airport.

Very walkable, especially since you don't have to cross any of the major streets.

It's our go-to location. The walk is a piece of cake, though the shuttle is nice too. Favorite thing though is the feel there: beautiful grounds, cobblestone parking lot, flowers, super comfortable beds. It doesn't feel like a strip mall like many right across the crosswalk feel. Pool area is pretty. Breakfast is good. Happy to see ham & cheese croissants there last time.

Where else have you stayed that was a shorter walk? And when you say a far walk how far are you talking? Thank you for sharing!

Sounds great for your family. We won't have a car and are looking for a short walk to and from the parks so that doesn't sound like a great option for us.

The walk is not bad at all. I thought it was really nice to not have to wait at the light to cross Harbor too. We stayed when our kids were smaller and went back to the room a couple times and it was no problem at all. We enjoyed our stay and CCI is always on my list of hotels I would stay at again in the DLR area.

I stayed there back in August and have another stay planned for April.

They do have a shuttle if you don't want to walk - I used the shuttle when it was really hot
The walk is about 5-7 minutes til you enter Disney property( bus drop off). you only have to cross 1 street (it's the street for Disney employees/ buses) It's probably about a 10 minute walk to get to security.
they do have a shuttle that will drop you off that leaves on every 1/2 hour. I like taking into the park after my mid day break - then I'm not all sweaty by the time I get to Disney.

Note: If you pick the cheapest room - it will be the smallest and it will most likely be upstairs and there are NO elevators. So that's something to think about when your packing -I normally like to take one big suitcase but will probably bring 2 small suitcases for my trip as they are easier to bring up the stairs.

the breakfast is ok - I wish they had some type of hot eggs but that's my only complaint.

The pool is small but nice to get in and get wet or for kids to play in.

For me I love to take a mid day break - that's hard to do if you stay far away and have to drive. For my April trip I was able to get CCI for $136 a night.

Awesome. Thank you for the explanation. 3 miles is a 9 mins drive. so it doesn't bother us. And this time we will be AP members so parking on our AP is free. I tend to be a die hard and power through. We all have such different styles when we go on vacations.
:earboy2:

Oh and what I meant about cheapest price on their site, isn't they are the cheapest hotel. Just always book straight through them for cheapest of their rates. 100% always lower than Getawaytoday too.
