The Running Thread - 2020

LOL. Lived down there for a long time so I'm familiar with those acronyms.
Thank you for the input.

Not my original saying, but 'I put the icing on the bad decision cake' and signed up. *

My goal is to try and fun run it. Stretch goal is to get a photo with a smile.

I'm feeling burned out from running too much and racing too much.

What is the obvious solution?

Sign up for a race.

You are too funny! Good luck!

PS - I didn’t want to assume you knew what PIB was, because you know what they say about assumptions...😆

I haven't been running at all this week and I'm feeling very antsy as a result. This is all because of the current outbreak situation, which has increased workload massively (healthcare related). By the time I get home I'm too tired to run. I get a day off over the weekend so I think I will really need to get a run in on that day!

ATTQOTD: I don't actually enjoy adult beverages that much. I'll drink them if the occasion fits or if they are readily available - e.g. wine/sparkling/etc at weddings, mulled wine/cider at Christmas, mimosas on occasion - but I don't normally go out of my way to find them. So I'd say a run would make me feel better!

I need to go for a run...

QOTD: Which do you think would do you better during a stressful time? A adult beverage or a run?

I'm not a big adult beverage drinker. The occasional beer, but don't really drink them for stress relief. So that said, it would have to be the run. My best runs tend to come when I'm the most stressed, and I usually return home feeling much better.

Anyone have suggestions for a good pace/time calculator? Sadly, the one I've used for years (coolrunning) is defunct.

It would allow you to calculate pace or time. The great thing was you didn't have to reset/clear and re-input everything.

Trying the first couple of Google search results (active/strava/runnersworld), they are all carpy compared to the coolrunning one.

QOTD: Do you run from home or have to travel somewhere to go run? Do you have a lot of options for mileage at home or end up having to run a loop multiple times?

ATTQOTD: Most of my midweek runs are from home. Our neighborhood is a little over a mile that makes a large B. We are connected to another street that is a out and back for a additional mile and crossing the highway for another out and back can add a mile. I hate making u-turns so I rarely run the other routes. On the weekends, I go to the LSU lakes where the options are endless for distance without repeating.

I run from my house. I have a couple routes I can take depending how many miles I want. One route is exactly 5 miles from door back to door and it’s a circle. I can add side streets when I want to increase mileage. The other route is an out and back so I can add more mileage easier by just going longer on the way out. It’s a very hilly area though so my runs are much slower but I get A LOT of hill training regardless of the route.

QOTD: Which do you think would do you better during a stressful time? A adult beverage or a run?

I would probably want a adult beverage, but a run would actually make me feel better.

I asked this question because it's been a roller coaster of a ride the last day. At first DD was not accepted into a school (1st grade not higher ed lol) which was a bummer and put all of our other plans on hold. We were told that registration was just part of the process and we were in... So we were shocked when we got that piece of bad news. Then mid-morning... another phone call and all of a sudden a spot has opened up. I dont think we have ever been so happy to spend what will equal a weeks stay and park tickets for a family of 4 at the GF lol.
Looking forward to my run this evening... and then maybe a beer lol.
I am not a big drinker. I drink less than 5 times a year. For me it is a run. I feel the stress leave my body as I run and come home much more relaxed. This is why the injuries were bothering me so much.

Wow! Why do we only get snow when I have an out-of-town race scheduled? I was supposed to leave this afternoon to head to the Suwanee Half Marathon on Sunday. It's about an hour away. Not sure I'm going to make it; we have 3-4 inches of snow. If I don't make it, it will be my first ever DNS.

Edited to say more like 5 inches!

Just popping in to say:
1) I got my PR this morning at the Hilton Head Island Marathon—4:18!
2) I HIGHLY recommend this race, if they keep the same course. The “festivities” were more geared to the 8K and Half runners—there were FAR fewer Full runners—but the course was fast and gorgeous, with small trail and boardwalk portions.

(I’ll post a full recap in my training journal sometime this week.)

Happy Running, Everyone!!

I’ve been considering developing an iOS app for this for awhile now, but I never get to a good set of features that would make it interesting. Besides basic pace, distance, time (you enter two, it calculates the 3rd), and interval calcs, I don’t know what else to include. Anybody have any ideas regarding features that would be useful to them?

Catching up!!

I do most of my runs right out the front door! Even the meeting spot for my running group is .25-.5 from our house - so I’m pretty lucky the be able to get a lot of miles in from all different directions right from home. But, every once in a While I change it up and drive somewhere else to run:

And both. For sure. I’m in a very bad place with work stress right now, and my best days involve a run during the day and a glass of wine before bed. I’m doing a February 1-mile/d challenge, and it’s been so good to get out and get active!

Maybe add suggested training paces - recovery, tempo, long run, etc.

I made it to Suwanee. Tomorrow is going to be an adventure for several reasons:

Temperature at the start is forecast to be 31 degrees. If we don't dry out and it refreezes, it could be a mess.

I'm trying to fun run and not race, which is new for me.

I'm not sure if I'm in good enough shape to run a half.

Check-in at the hotel: "Are you here for business or pleasure?" Me: "Neither, I'm here for pain."

Off to Stillfire Brewing to meet by brother and SIL for the usual pre-race mistakes.

If anyone is visiting West Virginia, the Greenbrier River Trail is really nice for running. I ran 3.5 mi out and then back from the southern end. It's a former railroad bed, so it's very flat. It runs along the river and nestles alongside the mountains. The surface is packed dirt. While it was cold today, there would be a lot of shade in the summer, so it would probably be pretty cool then, too. There was even a pit toilet about 1.5 mi from the southern trailhead! It is quite a long trail, so I'm not going to get to see much more of it since I'm leaving tomorrow.

@jennamfeo , would you please add West Virginia to my list? Thank you very much!

@OldSlowGoofyGuy glad you made it. We have a ton of fog, but looks like my temp is just above freezing. I have 8 miles to do before we pick up the uhaul. moving the last of my brother’s things to my parent‘s house. we did book the truck for 11am so going to wait out the fog some.

be safe out there today, it’s a fun run.

you still have family obligations for March 1 correct? No fun run at the publix half? I still have 14 miles to do that day, so considering it as a training run.
