Opt out of Housekeeping at Resorts

I wouldn't equate leaving the garbage in the garbage can and used towels together on the bathroom floor to be the actions of a "total slob". Do you take your dishes to the busing station at a restaurant too? There's no harm in helping the housekeeper if that's what you want to spend your time doing, just like there's also no need for someone to go out of their way to be a true slob and leave the room a mess. But it seems silly to tip housekeeping to service your room and do part of the work for them.

I put all the dirty towels in one pile and make sure all of the trash is in the bins. I figure if I can make their job a smidge easier, why not?

I wouldn't consider leaving the garbage in the garbage can and used towel together on the bathroom floor to be a total slob either. I consider the people who spill soda or food on the floor and don't clean it up, people who leave beer bottles all over the floor, etc to be the slobs.

I don't tip housekeeping for doing the job they are paid to do. If I need extra from them, I would tip them.

Glad to see this is now for a Deluxe resort. We knew at some point this would catch on for all three levels.
As for where to get clean towels. I just grab them off the maid cart. Or pool towels. Or you can call and have them delivered. Either way. It’s an easy 10.00 savings.
You call the front desk and ask for towels or anything you need in the room.

We do the same, pile towels in the floor together, trash in the trash bins. But I get enough of making beds and scrubbing the toilets at home. I'm not doing it at a hotel too. We stay in a hotel instead of renting a house so I we can have service. There's times where we like stays where we are self sufficient and cook and clean for ourselves. But it's not at Disney. Best thing of the day is coming back to a straightened up bed and since we stay CL, a bit of chocolate and a TV on the resort station

We just did this on a quick 3 night couples trip. Since it was just the two of us, it was easy $$. We had more than enough towels and I didn’t mind pulling the covers back on the bed in the morning. We received our e-gift card before we even arrived and used it towards dinner our first night. Now, if we had had the kids with us or planned to spend more time in the room... I may have opted for the housekeeping.

What I find funny about this is that I'm dropping $200 to $300 a night on lodging and getting only $10 back for skipping daily service. I generally do not turn down any savings, but Disney is so expensive that I find myself saying no to this.

Bingo. $10 does nothing to the price of a Disney trip. What, 2 bottles of water? I'm not totally against making my own bed just gonna have to pay me more than $10 to do it

And Poly is even more a night, double that. No thank you. I gonna take every single bit of service they give me. LOL

I agree with both of you, and do the exact same thing. The poster that was quoted was in response to a PP who said they take all the trash out and leave that and the towels by the door. That seems excessive to me.

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned here but I have seen elsewhere, when people decline mouse keeping, I think the overall condition of the room declines. Even if it’s just a little each time. Vacuuming, dusting, bathroom In particular. To only be done once at the end of someone’s stay? To each their own, but I’ll never opt out.

You don’t have to go to the front desk. Some MDE users have it as an option in the app. You can also call from your room.
It came up as an option when I did online check in on the website.
I took the option, as it comes to $40 for my trip. But this is my first time—how do you get the supplies you need?

We grabbed towels and cups off the housekeeping cart one afternoon on our way back to our room. They were very kind about it.

I took the option, as it comes to $40 for my (solo) trip. I reuse my towels anyway, and I don’t mind pulling up the covers. This trip, anyway.

You call and ask for what you want

Can you change your mind on this? If you initially opt out but decide it's not for you (or that you are messier then you thought), can you go back to the front desk to have service restored?

I can't confirm because I'm not sure this scenario has been discussed, but its my understanding they email you the gift card on your check-in day after you opt out, and the amount equates to $10 per night for each night you are there (except the last night). Because they email you this at that amount in advance, I'm thinking you would not be able to restore service because the gift card would have already been paid out to you.

I’ve not heard of anyone changing there mind, but I bet it wouldn’t be a problem. Disney is pretty accommodating. They’d probably just charge the gift card amount they gave you to your room.

Good point, there is probably a way for them to do this or even cancel the gift card if its not been used yet.
