Anyone stockpiling food?

I was singing this exact song in my head as I went to Costco this morning. Being are buying cases of water and toilet paper. You can feel panic in the air.
My country of Canada has 49 cases and the government is constantly emphasizing risk is low.
Costco knows what their customers want as items people stockpile the most are all by the front cash.
Maybe it's different at our stores or I just haven't been since the whole mad rush for stockpiling but in our locations the toilet paper, bottled water, kleenex, and disinfecting stuff and the like are at the very back of the store. I've never seen them bring a pallet closer probably because with people's carts it woud cause a significant traffic jam. Only time I've seen disinfecting stuff be at the entrance (so right when you enter before you get to the tvs) is when they have a sale but that's it. I'll have to see if they've changed it up though.

The toilet paper panic confuses me as much as the water. Thankfully, we have no shortages here.
I needed to pick up toilet paper today. only had two rolls left. I was very worried, but luckily they had enough (though there were still some empty shelves)). The run on hand soap confuses me. Do people not wash their hands on a regular basis and have none at their house?

Right??? I have big bottles of soap that I fill my dispensers with!

So, I was going to buy some Clorox wipes at my local Sam's Club. Checked online (for pick up in store) and they are sold out. The Clorox hydrogen peroxide wipes are also sold out.

We have enough TP to last a year (maybe). Everytime there's a sale at Sam's (or they get the bigger rolls), dad likes to buy the limit (which is 3 for the sale price)...LOL

Were they stopping due to the virus spreading? Or because of financial reasons?

The samples were stopped within about a day of someone posting on a very popular social media platform that there were still samples being given out at the Costco near the large outbreak in Washington state. The poster mentioned contacting various health departments and authorities after talking with management at that Costco.

Costco seems to be very aware of photos of their stores currently on social media and the one I shop at has done a very good job of making the shortages not be as photo-worthy...areas where items are out of stock are immediately filled with other items and meat was running low so one of the chest fridges was covered. The doors were opened a few minutes early so a line didn't form.

It hasn't stopped at all locations. My friend was still working as of Thursday night.

I wonder if it is left up to store management to decide. There isn't even a local confirmed case yet near me (although my state is one of the last 5 that refuses to test anyone).

@Imzadi just came across and HAD to show you...somewhere in Brooklyn:rotfl:

That's just what happened at our concert too. Except Celine could be heard louder and singing over us.

Here is my very bad video. The lighting really screwed up my focus. But you can hear all of us singing with Celine. AND she was still high-fiving fans in the audience, (over on the left.) Hopefully she used hand sanitizer when she went back stage during costume changes. :crazy2:

Coronavirus is spread by droplets, it’s not airborne like tuberculosis or chicken pox. This is why it’s important for people to cover their sneezes and coughs and then wash their hands.

This article details the different types of isolation procedures used in medical facilities:

Thanks for the links & some clarification. Two weeks ago, the CDC and other sources kept saying it was too early for them to know how it was spreading. So, it didn't occur to me that they'd finally have something written down. (It still says at the top they are learning more all the time.)

So, our NYC mayor was told info, and then made a mash-up of the info that he learned and told NYers inaccurate info. :headache: :badpc:

DH just returned from our local Walmart market. He ran in for graham crackers for ’smores. I asked him to look for toilet paper & hand sanitizer too.

He came back w/ graham crackers, toilet paper, & a 6-pack of Corona.

No hand sanitizer.

The news said it's only in WA, CA and FL. The states where actual Coronavirus deaths have happened. Of course more closures may happen at any time.

Well, hand sanitizer and Corona BOTH contain alcohol. He was kinda close. 😂
