Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Disneyland has generally been terrible at enforcing rules inside the park (security is a different story). I realize the situation is very different but I wonder if DL really has the appetite to enforce strict rules inside their park.

I wondered this too but if mask wearing is what it takes for them to open sooner, maybe they enforcement would change? A reduced capacity probably makes enforcing rules easier too. Be curious to see how they handle that if they require masks.

there is a huge difference between enforcement of company policies and the enforcement of Government policies.

how many times at work have we all come across managers and staff who have a personal issue with company policy and just do things their way. As long as its not illegal and does not interfere with the day to day operations, many employers turn a bind eye.

However when it comes to things like health and safety regulations employers are not so lenient.

I think many are not realizing the difference

I wonder how long after reopening we’d see Snow White’s, the Haunted Mansion ready to go since their refurbishment was paused. Avengers Campus probably needs another 3 to 4 months?
Earlier this week some construction resumed. I'm not sure if it was for just Avengers or all of the park. I'm hoping they slowly add more workers and can get things done while they are closed.

It gets a lot of local traffic. All you have to do is look at how full the parking lot gets. We go all the time without visiting the parks. If they opened DtD, it would be packed with locals, IF they relax the parking fee situation. If they announced DtD open with FREE parking, it will get quite crowded with locals. People are dying to go ANYWHERE.
I agree. Being local to DL, and not able to go to the Parks, has created a real wanderlust for anything Disney. I think DTD would easily be very busy.

If I remember correctly it was some protective work on some of the Avengers campus previous work and some work in the Micky and Minnie's Runaway railway area, something about preparing for delivery of steel components. The article said that other work had not been started up again yet.

Edited: I found the article. Here is the link https://www.ocregister.com/2020/05/...ed-essential-work-during-coronavirus-closure/

Yeah, so maybe then you could say "I think" before making this kind of statement? It is a speculation thread but people will come in here and make declarative statements like that which makes it seem like they have inside information or something.
I kinda figured being a speculation thread everything anyone says the "I think" "in my opinion" etc would be implied.

They might start off by requiring guests wear masks, but I am willing to wager that they will have to relax that and make it optional within a week. There will simply be no way to enforce it widely.

I've also noticed a phenomenon in our city where, once the city council decided to REQUIRE employees and patrons of essential businesses to wear masks, the physical distancing COMPLETELY disappeared. People think the masks make them invincible and so it's now impossible to go into Costco or a supermarket and stay 6 feet away from everyone. Once the masks went into play, stores stopped enforcing the distancing and started letting more people in. It's a catch 22 situation.

Disney will have to choose whether they care more about physical distancing or mask use. They will get WAY more compliance with physical distancing if they don't require masks. If they require masks, people will ignore the distancing guidelines.

I think we can agree most people are fine with wearing masks for a short amount of time but not the whole day.

What if DLR operated the rest of 2020 with Morning/Afternoon/Evening tickets? Cheap tickets good for a set time range. Hard close to sweep out the group and do a deep clean/sanitize in preparation for the next group.

I wonder if there will be loud-speaker announcements every 10-15 minutes with the friendly voice who does the fireworks update announcements saying something like: "As a reminder, for the safety of all of our guests, please maintain 6 feet of distance between yourself and other guests, and be sure to keep your face protection on at all times". I can see it being annoying, but extremely helpful, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a bunch of people realizing they have had their masks off for a while.

Part of my worry about any major changes in rules and expected behavior is the effect of the angry-types who will challenge other people in a rude manner when they aren't wearing their masks or following social distance rules. "HELLO! PLEASE put your mask ON!!!", "CAN YOU PLEASE BACK UP! THAT'S NOT 6 FEET!!!". Some of the holier-than-thou guests might cause some pretty tense situations. Disney can influence the attitudes of the cast members, but not so much with the guests.

In general I worry about the cast members being treated badly when they have to remind someone to follow the rules. I see enough negative attitude toward the CM's when they expect people to walk on a specific side of the street during parades and fireworks. I almost hope there will be a very short video in the entry lines (similar to the Soarin' intro video) which reminds people to be polite, and that we are all in a strange situation that requires a little bit of extra patience. Something that conveys "don't shoot the messenger". If people get annoyed being reminded to be polite, maybe they should find another place to visit.

I worry about this too. The mask thing makes some people sooo angry as it is. I’ve seen the public comments on the Disneyland FB page when they posted the potential health guidelines and it was just out of this world. Upsetting to think of all that venom directed at the cast members.

Yes , the mask thing is certainly something we are not accustomed to in North America. We just went to the bike store (which is considered essential around here) and we had to explain several times to my 10-year old that it was required and she could no go in without it. This after she said she didn’t like the way it looked and insisted she wasn’t going to wear it. I told her it was the law currently... no mask, no bike. She wore it. My 7 year old did not care at all but was fidgeting with it a bit. Different personalities I guess. But at the end of the day, people will be rude to cast members but they don’t make the rules. If they can’t live with the rules, then they need to leave. If masks become a requirement, I’m sure cast members will be lenient and will be politely reminding people. If someone gets belligerent, they should absolutely be thrown out.

I think that if masks are a requirement to be in the park and a guest becomes too hostile about it or refuses to wear a mask they should be ejected from the park and shouldn't be allowed to return until things are a bit more normal (where masks won't be seen as a mandatory thing at the park.) I definitely worry about the cast members because i've seen videos of customers being livid over not being allowed to go inside a store without a mask on.

THIS! On top of people being rude to cast members enforcing new rules, I worry other guests will try to enforce rules by being rude or hostile. Ultimately you can’t control what others do, only your own behavior, but not everyone thinks that way.

This is the problem people cant be trusted to do the right thing, u would think with that many people around they would want to follow the rules and not make anybody sick, especially if u get to be in disneyland again. Only takes a few to ruin it for everyone. I think this will go better in shanghai or tokyo because teh asian culture is much more compliant.

Is anyone here have underlying medical conditions, how safe do u think the parks would be even with all the measures. I have diabetes, my mom has lung disease and is on oxygen. We are heartbroken because we try to go twice a year, we were there the week they closed, and we have a trip planned in nov, I just dont know how safe it will be even if they open. We just disneyland and they make it so easy with those with disabilities. I am so bummed.
I have high blood pressure (controlled) and my son has periodic fever syndrome. To this point, his syndrome didn’t seem really relevant, except that it is extraordinarily bad timing to get sudden high fevers with no cause, but we can deal with that. However, with the new inflammatory immune system complication afflicting kids, I’ve suddenly become very, very scared for him. No one can tell me why some kids get the complication and others don’t, but I’m afraid that having one fever-inducing autoimmune disorder may begat another.

All of this to say, I’ve decided for my family that Disney and other mass gathering places, even movie theaters and the museum, won’t be safe for our family for a long, long, long time. I want to hyperventilate thinking of him going to kindergarten. But he has to learn. He does not *have* to meet Mickey.

I have absolutely zero faith that people will be wearing masks correctly. None.

Says who? No one has definitively said this.

some dude at a desk in Switzerland said no Disney parks in 2020, lol. He probably shorted the stock, hah.
