What do you think school will be like in the fall? UPDATE page 29 for Mass.

Okay. My state doesn't use Common Core, so we have no issue with that. What is your state?

washington.

i live on the eastern side where the private and public colleges draw large populations from both across the u.s and internationally (gonzaga, whitworth, eastern washington university, washington state and university of washington medical schools). there is evidence of student struggles in adaptation to non common core curriculum such that entire very basic college general education curriculums are being revised to ensure students have (for lack of a better term) practical and applicable knowledge and skills.

Schools need to open up in the fall with many changes.

Every day everything in the school needs to be sterilized by cleaning crews after students leave. Creates jobs and the government has tons of our tax money to pay for this service.

Between each period students should be washing their hands using whatever method is available for the school.

At the end of the day students can have the opportunity to wipe down items that will be bought home to help reduce risks at the home. Gloves and cleaning wipes will be provided.

Non essential subjects and assignments will be eliminated. Let’s now provide good quality education that will benefit students throughout their life. Yes, I know, how is that defined? Well, we now have a unique opportunity in these extraordinary times to have thoughtful educators, parents, and some government leaders to engage in serious discussions in this area.

Knucklehead behavior and bullying must be stopped. How? Teacher, parent, and administration intervention. They all need to work together and stop that behavior immediately.

Dream on you say? Please provide a reason why any this cannot work.

I know it can.

Well our governor just released his opening strategy and it looks like no weddings, funerals or regular school that doesn’t include Some kind of modified online learning and reduced capacity until there is a vaccine or a cure. I’m at a loss for words. This could be YEARS or never. There’s no guarantee we ever get a vaccine.

This is completely ridiculous. At this point I think our governor is holding us hostage until he gets some kind of federal money.

What state is this?

And it will probably change in time, but yes its nuts and not sustainable.

Not all states have a budget to pay for cleaning crews. I do think cleaning will be better in the beginning but like many things will fade in time.

While I agree there is too much busy work, what are you defining as non essentials? That art class or music class can be the part of a day a struggling kid looks forward to and helps them push through, same with many sports.

I completely agree with you. We may never have a cure or vaccine and what are we going to do stay in our homes and keep our kids away from people for ever. I need to be back in my classroom. I am planning to be there in the fall if it means wearing a mask and gloves or what ever.

We only have the second highest number of cases in the whole United States. Why now throw caution to the wind.

I'm not loving all these restrictions either and an currently trying to get a kid through online learning. But we just can't seem to get the number of cases in New Jersey to stop. I would love nothing better than my kid to go back to school; the distance learning program our district is using is a hastily thrown together hodge podge of programs. But I can't see how kids can go back to packed classrooms in September.

I live in south jersey. We are nothing like northern NJ.

Sussex County isn't hard hit either, and it is (very) Northern NJ. Doesn't mean it's not going to travel more. New Jersey is a very small state.

I'm hoping they can come up with some reasonable accommodations for the fall for our state. This distance learning is not adequate. Our town doesn't even have large class sizes, so we might be able to distance. But I'm not sure how more crowded areas will manage.

:rotfl2:Do you realize that schools are funded by state budgets, which tend to be tight to begin with? And that state budgets nationwide are going to take a severe beating in the next year due to the closures: dramatically reduced sales tax and income tax revenue? Do you realize how big a part of state budgets schools already are? And you think that the daily sterilization of every classroom after school by "cleaning crews" is a reasonable expense to add to every public school in every state?

Most schools have only a few custodians at most, who are charged with cleaning the entire school each day. On a daily basis, they don't have time to do more than vacuum and take out the trash in each classroom, in addition to cleaning the cafeteria, bathrooms & other common areas. More emphasis will likely be placed on cleaning upon reopening (it will probably take the form of teachers having to wipe down common surfaces in the classroom each day in addition to their other duties), but the funds just aren't there for what you're suggesting, which would require a lot more staff.

I agree, and its sad how they are always some of the first to go.

Yes, this is the go-to threat by officials every time they clasp their hands in dismay and declare how broke we are. Yet other areas seem to receive more than enough funding.

Now that beaches are open and folks here flicking down the shore, opening up their vacation homes, grocery shopping, I’m guessing that might change. My town had 9 new cases in 2 days, we have a busy Shoprite right in the center of town, I know people who go daily.

Waiting until there’s a cure or vaccine is completely ridiculous. Two things that may never come

the cure will be worse than the disease.

There should be a choice. Those who are high risk or want to avoid the public can do so. And those that don’t want to live in fear should be able to do so.

I read 65% of college students said they’ll go back to school if dorms are open. They should have that choice.

No that is not what he or that chart says. Its talks about testing and contact tracing and treatment OR vaccine.
