Let’s Talk Mask Designs and Styles!

I think if I did decide on a gaiter, I would modify it with a draw-string at the top to keep it from falling down. That was going to be my plan anyway.
Not sure how it would work on a roller coaster, but usually a small slip knot in the top back of the gaiter works fine to adjust the fit. The knot can be as big or small as needed.

I've been considering the gaiter style that has cut outs for the ears. I wonder if that would help it stay on better.
I saw a friend who cut her gaitors to be able to put her ears through. She said it helped a lot. I actually saw her readjusting her gaitor a lot, but we were also eating lunch so maybe she was just trying to get it comfortable since she was taking it off and on so much.

Our masks from VistaPrint arrived today! I really like them- think they’ll be great for hot weather and they have a pocket for filter. Unfortunately, the kids size is a bit tight for my son. He’s just right in between all the sizes- he’s 10 but his head is probably the size of a 12 year old haha. And he has big ears (poor baby lol!) so we’re just having issues over here!

Really hoping the Disney ones work for him- I got him the medium size in those. We’ll see how the old navy kids size does for but now I’m worried they won’t work- he’s just in an old size range.

But the VistaPrint masks are great- highly recommend. Shipping took a long time tho.

I’ve added elastic straps to the majority of masks that I’ve made. I cut off the original ties and ear loops of my prototypes and added the straps once my elastic order arrived. I’ve used 30 yards of elastic, so far.

For a mask from Arm the Animals, I added an elastic strap to the ear loops so DD could anchor the strap around her ponytail.

You might want to tack on 10-12” pieces of elastic for straps on the top and bottom of the mask to see how it fits before cutting off the loops.

Did you see the video where he tested the gaiter on the roller coaster? It would not stay up at all, and he said the regular paper masks were much cooler (and stayed on during the ride no problem). Kinda glad I decided against the gaiter myself.

I did see that video. I don't go on roller coasters though 🤣 I'd be curious to see how the gaiter would do on something like Big Thunder - that's about as much of a roller coaster as I can do.

So far the best option for not fogging up my glasses has been the disposables, but it feels so wasteful. I'm looking for something for everyday that won't fog up my glasses and stays comfortable, and I'd prefer to not have to throw away a mask (or more than one!) each day.

Anyone else worrying about the waste of disposable masks? I find cloth masks to be too stuffy (well, the ones I've tried so far), and was thinking of getting some disposable ones. I just feel so guilty thinking of all the extra waste we will be creating from it. Maybe I will experiment with some homemade masks out of tshirt fabric as someone suggested a few pages back. Any other recommendations on the best reusable, breathable masks are appreciated!

Would an extender help his masks fit better? You can make them from ribbon, cloth, or even crochet/knit them if you're handy that way. I've seen them in online shops, too. DH has one for his mask that attaches with velcro -- it really helps make the mask fit more comfortably and stay on more securely.

My DD’s UA mask is supposed to arrive within the next few days. The studio, AKT, is in Tustin so she’s afraid she’ll be the only one wearing a mask. The odds are high...I may have to bribe her. 😉

More moisture-wicking masks found in this article.

Gov. Newsom's announcement today should change that -- your DD won't be alone for long. And Uniqlo is going to start selling masks with Airism! Yay!

If anyone is interested in continuing to follow my son’s mask saga.... Old Navy masks arrived today. Mine fit just fine- his are super small- like toddler small.

We happened to be at Target and saw they were selling masks.. tried the $4 brand of kids one and fit him perfectly. 🤷‍♀️😂

I wore the Vistaprint one shopping today and is by far the best one I own. Sits securely on my face and just feels more comfortable.

More on the Red Bubble masks - my daughter bought 10 of these and I will have to tighten the ear loops o all of them so that they will stay on her face when she talks. I have not yet received mine but am considering returning them. I do not recommend them at all. The ones from Old Navy are still the best ones so far. I have not received the ones I ordered from Purple but will post a review when I do.

The Disney masks are shipping now, and some posters in other threads have said that they've received theirs. Has anyone here received their order yet? Someone who bought the Disney masks at DS said that they smell very strongly -- of what? Do the mailed masks have a strong odor?

I didn't buy Disney masks but I did recently buy some from a small boutique type store and the masks smell awful. It's some type of chemical sprayed on the fabric, probably to keep bugs from eating them in transport like new clothes. I think some people might not notice the odor, but it made me cough really bad. I think washing them before wear will take care of the issue.

All the tips in this thread are great!

My DH is a major Packers fan and met the Rumors-News Mod when he and DD went to a game at Lambeau Field where rteetz works as a vendor.

As soon as WI rescinded their Stay at Home order, rteetz shopped for me and shipped out mask fabric.

These are the 100% cotton masks that are on their way to rteetz - yes, that is Quarterback Mickey 😷 :

I have Quarterback Mickey as one of my cloth masks too! I love showing off our favorite teams while in the parks!

I got a shipping notification yesterday for 2 sets we ordered. According to tracking it looks like they are set to arrive on Wednesday of next week. Regardless of the initial smell, I do plan on washing them first, but I hope they don’t have a strong chemical smell right out of the package.

My husband re-uses his "disposables".

Received my Purple masks today and am very impressed. They are very comfortable, soft, and not thin at all. Also received the ones I ordered from Red Bubble. I will be altering them with small darts on the sides and shortening the loops and will keep them for emergencies. I have now received all the masks that I ordered and if anyone would ask me which are the best, I would say Old Navy and Purple.

Yikes...my grandpa was going to buy me masks from the Disney site...maybe I’ll wait.
