Resort Change by Disney

A lot of the larger TA agencies had a call witha Disney rep today literally minutes before everything went down. That’s why they are currently more in the know.

I heard from a reputable source that a lot more information would be released in the coming days. I’m hoping that includes weekends.
I hope so too! I had a 7/2 BC reservation and I received my email to modify that reservation on a Saturday.

My trip is one month from now at WL.
2 Cast members both told me my balance was not due until 7 days before my vacation. Has anyone else heard this?
I was prepared to pay and then didn't since everything feels so up in the air on Disneys part.
On Dis Unplugged LIVE today the travel agents all said Disney is giving up to 7 day before vacation to pay as long as your reservation dates are before Oct. 3 2020
I plan on calling a cast member again because at this point I don't know who to believe :confused3
My TA confirmed this week that payments are due 7 days before your reservation. We're at WL next month too...hoping we can still stay there!

It is a massive effort by Disney to determine where to move people with the NBA just signing on and all the cancellations. They probably had to release the park reservation system while still sorting it all out.

Likely, their estimates include a percentage of people who will cancel, but they don’t know who so there is not a 1:1 mapping of reservations to available rooms.

Then they have to figure out rooms they have vs what DVC members have available to book.

Communication could be better, but I am not sure they know what to communicate...once they say your resort is closed and they will move you, they will get blasted with “where?”

Email satire

Dear Disney pheasant we would like to reach out to you today that despite your lack of resources the kingdom would like you presents on 7/23/2020-7-27/20 unfortunately your place of stay will be temporarily closed the king has granted mercy on your souls and has placed you and your family at Saratoga Springs. Please mingling with the common folks is not allowed and the king has the right to revoke this privilege at any time.

Have a magical vacation

Nothing makes your list of people to move smaller than people cancelling after not getting a park reservation. Sounds like they're using this to weed out some people without overtly being terrible about it.
This makes sense. On Monday, we try to get reservations and can only get - say 2 park days for a 4 day stay. You don't know where you are sleeping, so you cancel on Tuesday. On Wednesday, your park days are open for someone else and Disney doesn't need to worry about moving you.

Life isn't fair, but I sure wish it was.

I would agree. I think they want people to cancel after not getting a park reservation so they have less people to move.

Yep exactly what I thought.

Not to be cynical, but I wonder if Disney planned this...those who don’t know where they are going will call first and that will allow the park system not to crash?

It is backwards for sure...

I think there is a big possibility that both the website and the phone lines will go down. Hope it doesn't happen, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I have been trying to think through why they are having guests make park reservations BEFORE any of us July 11 and later people even know if we have a room and where we are staying. It makes no sense! Are they wanting us to make our park reservations and get excited and then they spring on us that we have to pay for our room changes...?? After booking your park days, you may feel more like you definitely want to go since you know you can definitely get in??

My guess is the left hand (park operations) is not fully communicating with the right hand (resort operations). I also think, no matter the circumstances, the parks are now opening on hard dates and they have to get the park reservation system up and running even though they haven't sorted out resorts yet. I feel for all of you staying onsite for the first few weeks of the parks re-opening.

I don’t want FW either. If they say FW I’m going to ask if anything else available.
There might be other resorts available but are you willing to pay the price increase? It’s my understanding that you either take what they offer or cancel. There’s no resort shopping and the only changes at no charge that I’ve seen are when the room that has been offered will not fit everyone in the traveling party.

I know some people love them, but I wouldn't want the cabins either. Just keep in mind that with pre open changes, if people opted not to accept what was offered, they had to pay the difference for the upgrade.

Yes my understanding is this is a you get what you get and you don't get upset situation.

...if you don't want to pay extra anyway. I'm just really hoping I don't get the FW cabins!

Same here. We have a family suite booked at AOA. When I booked this, the cabins were actually $100 less per night than the AOA suites. I would not consider this an upgrade or even a lateral move. The one bathroom for 5 people is a hard pass. 😂

Don’t bother unless you’re willing to pay the price difference. Not one person has been able to get something other than what Disney has assigned no matter what they plea.

I just received an email from my TA about our upcoming stay at PORR. We are booked for 2 Royal rooms. The email informed us that only DVC resorts will be open and if we don't change our dates, we will be moved to a DVC resort. So I clarified with the TA that all DVC resorts were Deluxe, so we are getting a free upgrade to a deluxe. Bonus!

However, it did go on to say that if we chose to change our dates we would have to pay the difference. Seems like a no brainer to me.

We also received an email from our TA and they said if we don’t change our dates, we will be automatically moved to a dvc resort and it also could be the FW cabins.
If we choose to keep the same dates, no charge if it’s a higher level resort, but also no modifications allowed. You get what you get.

That’s tricky.

We are paying about $450ish a night for our room at a deluxe resort. If during a regular Disney trip I found out the people on the room next to us had been upgraded from a value resort for $180 a night I would think the Disney Magic was fantastic and good for them.

However....if I found out during this trip we are paying $450ish a night and the rest of the hallway is paying $180 bc they all got upgraded, I would be upset about it, and I’m sure that makes me a jerk but I can’t be the only one.
So we had a July reservation that we booked months ago, before Covid. The first cancelled people in March and April were then given the option to book same dates as us with free dining. We paid $1300 for our dining plan. I thought for a minute... hey not fair but really not sure how else they can handle that. I was not happy either... I just don’t know what could be done here. We are all essentially paying different rates. We once stayed at the Poly and paid $250 a night group rate and people around us were paying 30 to 40% more. I kept my mouth shut because I’m sure they wouldn’t have been happy to hear that, but if it was the other way around I’m sure it would sting a little. I don’t believe anything can be done, but I bet almost everyone would feel a tad upset about these scenarios. This does not make you a jerk... nobody wants to feel like they paid double for the same thing.

Yes, but for many YC/BC people the Poly is a downgrade. We see it as such. Many on the CL thread and YC/BC thread do as well.

can walk to two parks and boardwalk area, much better pool, many many food options within short walk, skyliner... Poly just isn't the same. Especially after they announced a modified F and W at Epcot.
Yeah and especially with the Star Wars stuff, Skyline and Epcot upgrades the Boardwalk area is a much better area.

Unless you are exclusively going to MK, Poly area isn't as good.
