Coming from NY. This is horrible

Hello;

Had a trip booked for the last week in august.

Cancelled it last month.

But, I just can't go a year without my "disney fix".

So, I figured I wold try and book a shorter stay so I could get my disney fix.

Well, The Fla gov just extended the mandatory quarantine for travelers from NY, NJ, and CT for an ADDITIONAL 60 days thru the first week of september.
On top of that, the NY gov just implemented a mandatory quarantine for any coming into NY from Fla.

So, if I wanted to get my disney fix, I would have to quarantine 14 days IN FLA, and an additional 14 days IN NY ?

Seriously?

That's 28 days of quarantine. That's ridiculous.

I'd love to hear any feedback from others in the same position and what your plans are.

I have no issues going to WDW now, it's just the politicians won't let us.They are just in a tit-for-tat war between the states that only make tourism startting back up that much harder.

Honestly, the state governors really don't want to encourage interstate travel - they want their residents to be home and avoid exposure from other places. This virus mutates, and what's current in Florida may not be the same strain or mutation making it's way around Texas or any other region.

Depending on where you live in NYS, you'd have to quarantine to come to my state as well; that includes the vast majority of NYS. Only a few counties bordering my state aren't subject to quarantine. I get it. We've had to change plans as well. Our favorite summer camping vacation (nowhere near Florida) is a no-go this year because 1) we'd have to quarantine before going and 2) quarantine coming home.

This isn't a Disney thing, a Florida thing, a NY or tri-state area thing. Quarantines are abundant right now, across the country and world.

Florida is no different than any state right. Many are going to encounter spikes. I am sure you do not want people judging New York.

1. Most states absolutely are doing much better than Florida.
2. I would absolutely judge as a New Yorker. We had no idea and no notice as to what was going to hit us. Florida had four months.

No one should be going from NY/NJ to FL and then come back. Nearly every new outbreak you hear about now up here resulted in someone travelling to a hot spot and coming back and spreading it. The answer unfortunately is simple - if you can't quarantine - don't go.

As to the person who said FL is no different - you need to be burying your head in the sand to not see how different FL and states that ignored advice and opened to early are doing now compared to how states that acted responsibly are. Comparing FL now to NY months ago is an irrelevant distracting comparison.

Even if you think Disney will do a good job preventing spread you are still flying into FL(Covid epicenter)
and using hotels/restaurants/etc.
... btw Disney cant prevent everything especially on rides where people scream and with motion the aerosol will be spread everywhere.

Biggest problem with going right now if you are not local is if you get sick:

1) I hope you have national health insurance(many plans only cover the state you are in).
2) You and your family will be stuck in Florida in a hotel or hospital for a few weeks... not the type of vacation extension you want.
3) The stress of extending hotels, cost, rescheduling flight, etc... all while you are sick.

Disney is not going anywhere. IMO its crazy to go right now from any state not just NY.

I’m not sure saying Florida isn’t doing enough to keep residents safe is bashing Florida. I love Florida. I grew up there. All of my loved ones are there. And I’m upset that government isn’t taking as strong a stance to protect Floridians as I see other state officials doing. We have a responsibility to hold officials accountable.

It isn't ridiculous at all.

It's ridiculous that Florida, the epicenter of the virus in the country, is trying to make rules about anyone from out of state.
I do believe that was silly. And, if I remember correctly, didn’t Desantis issue the order right after the NY/NJ/CT governors issued theirs?

But I agree with others, Americans should be halting nonessential travel. I’m young and healthy, I would statistically be fine if I got it. But I’m trying not to contribute to the problem, trying not to spread it around.

What would you do differently?

People from NY seem to forget some of our early outbreaks of Covid ( especially here in Brevard County) came from residents going back to NY to visit family.

Hindsight is 20/20. All the states are still learning how best to do business during this pandemic. My DD is a Fl teacher and now I have an extra worry. She's not sure she will be able to visit us during the school year and she is 20 mins away!

I have a lot of ideas, I won’t bore you with them, I’m sure you e heard others say them before.

My mother is a Palm Beach county teacher. My stepfather has Parkinson’s, he’s been on a ventilator within the last year, he would not do well with covid. Plenty of worry here, too.

I don’t claim to have all the answers though. Just wishing officials had some.

Sorry to hear about your SD. Personally, I think we need to concentrate on our own states and how best we can do to flatten the curve again. If that means implementing quarantines, so be it.
