Hamilton on Disney Plus this Friday....who's excited!!??

I support BLM and what they stand for. That being said, I saw some buzz on release day about this and started reading and watching YouTube interviews with the cast. Some of those cast members are activists and give thoughtful interviews on what it was like to play these people on stage. When I saw people accusing Lin of being a racist I shut it down and anything said after that has no validity to me. It's an outrageous accusation.

He doesn't glorify Hamilton. Just because it's called that and it's wildly popular doesn't mean it's a glorification of the man. He was a jerk and they portray him as such. I think many people who say such haven't even seen it.

Our founding fathers had problematic backgrounds in the institution of slavery. It's part of our history and it's not something that should be ignored. However, there are better ways to go about it than calling someone like Lin Manuel Miranda a racist and trying to get a Broadway show, which has almost an entire cast of people of color, canceled. Focus the attention on who really is racist and work to dismantle that from within our government.
Read your post. Totally agree with your last statement. But I question if you really support BLM. lol

IMO, it gets hype because of the genius of LMM.

My husband begrudgingly watched it with me on release day. He didn’t say much. Then, to my surprise, he joined me when I was watching it for the 4th time and started commenting on how good it is. He said he’s just amazed by Lin’s talent. The guy is a genius, no doubt. So many types of music in one show. He deserves the credit he gets whether or not it’s your cup of tea.

He's the Shakespeare of our time

I loved it. DH and I have watched it 3 times already. I am a history teacher so it is right up my alley lol.

Daveed Diggs is a star, Lin is a genius, and Phillippa Soo is a goddess. Everyone is the cast is exceptional.
Agree with everything you said! Phillippa could sing me anything and I would listen. She is amazing. And Daveed - just no words for his talent. Leslie was amazing!

And yes, Lin is a genius. From the idea, to the words/songs and for putting this spectacular cast together. I've also watched it 3 times and I'm almost happy this is the first cast I'm getting to see. There is something magic about them.

Currently reading the companion book about the creation of the show, all the song lyrics with notes, and gorgeous pictures.

Hamilton the Revolution. Totally recommend it.

Same! I've been listening to the soundtrack forever, and DH has been ridiculing it forever. He agreed to go with me when I managed to snag tickets for the tour in March (now pushed to Sept 21). And to my absolute surprise, he actually watched it with me on Sunday. I kept telling him he could leave lol. He even admitted that it was a very well done production and not at all what he expected. Oh, and he said he will absolutely definitely will not watch it again, especially tomorrow around 2pm. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

So I thought I would hate it because I don’t enjoy period pieces very much, especially from that time period. But I really liked it. Even if you don’t care for the topic, the talent is undeniable. Lin’s voice isn’t for me, but he is amazing and his mind is incredible.

Sorry if someone else mentioned this but has anyone seen the Hamilton Polka that Weird Al did? My DH showed it to me and I have watched it twice. He did such a good job.

A friend of mine sent me this today on FB. Yes, he did a great job.

I honestly believe that Hamilton would not, and could not, be written today. A white, slave holding founding father could not be shown in a semi-positive light. Same with Washington. We have come a long way in 5 years.

Not a fan. I could only get through the first 20 minutes. Good to note that I dislike modern musical theatre (but LOVE Opera) in first place but that I really tried with this one. Its awful. Couldn't understand a word of it and it was very hard to follow in who the characters were. Can anyone confirm if this was even historically accurate?

It's about as accurate as any other musical based on actual people and events, which is to say, it's about 50-50. He did work with Ron Chernow, who wrote the Hamilton biography the show is based on, to make it as accurate as he could within the limited stage musical framework.

If you want to give it another try, I strongly suggest turning on the Closed Captioning. That's about the only way to catch all the lyrics.
