August 2020 Reservations-still going?

I’m so on the fence. I really would love to go but I’m still nervous about the numbers in Florida. I was hoping they would be starting to go down by now.
I read somewhere that a couple days ago the number of cases leveled off? Not sure if it was all of Florida or just 1 county. Not sure what source it was from so prob not even true. But it gave me hope.

We are going to have to cancel. I just can't force this trip to happen. I feel like I'm swimming upstream trying to make it all work, and I just can't do it anymore. I'm super sad and cried myself to sleep ( I know its just a trip!). It actually makes me feel worse to be this upset. I planned and cancelled 5 trips since our original was cancelled in May. We just can't get there and get back without tons of complications with quarantining and the risk of being in FL, not to mention the people around us making it even more difficult. I hope all of you who go have a wonderful, safe and magical trip and to all of you cancelling, I know how you feel. Here's to planning a future trip with the our biggest worries being getting a virtual boarding group and cocktails at Oga's!

Re: Pit stops along the interstate. Gas stations can for sure be hit or miss, but remember that according to the CDC, the longer you're within six feet of someone, the more exposed you are (they don't consider someone in the high risk/high exposure zone unless they've been within six feet of someone with COVID for longer than 15 mins) so wear a mask, distance yourself as much as you can, and don't dilly dally. Odds are you'll be fine.

I’m supposed to go Aug 10-21, and really was looking forward to it. However, now that Splash has had unexpected extended down time and it’s my favorite ride, I wonder if we would be better off waiting until (if?) it reopens so I have one more chance.

I wouldn't assume that it will be still be down two/three weeks from now. Maintenance issues happen all the time.

If your entire trip revolves around one attraction being open then you would never visit. This is not a rare occurrence, rides go down unexpectedly all the time. Splash will reopen but even if it's open you never know when it can go down again like what happened to people there yesterday

please remember there are other threads to discuss the numbers and the trends. Each person can read these reports and make up their own mind. This is for talking about coming or cancelling for whatever personal reason

I’m on the other side of the fence, after weeks of uncertainty, I finally feel like this trip is definitely going to happen. We are in Caribbean Beach August 9-14. The final word from my boss is that I don’t have to quarantine when I get back unless my state (Oklahoma) mandates one and chances of that are really unlikely since our governor won’t even mandate mask usage. From watching everything being posted, I’m 100% comfortable with the masks and social distancing going on in the parks. I’m not sold on visiting Disney Springs this trip, and we are fully prepared to get take out and eat some of our meals in our room rather than risk exposure in a restaurant if we don’t feel comfortable. Once we get back, I’ll be extra vigilant of social distancing at work. I’m in healthcare, so always wearing a mask anyway, but I can work primarily from my office without getting within 6ft of my staff for more than a few minutes at a time. We also plan to test as soon as we are home too. I really feel like we’ve come up with the safest plan available to us at the moment. We are also driving, so we will do picnics and drive thrus on the way and wear N95’s when we have to stop for gas and bathrooms.

Well typically it doesn’t, but we love Broadway shows and the loss of live musicals have been tough for us. Our favorite restaurants aren’t reopening, and our favorite time to be at the parks is after dark, which won’t be happening except for Epcot. However, we LOVE all the rides so that’s what’s kept us going. We are two young adults from MD who have to drive due to my S/Os history of ear surgeries, and we don’t make a ton of money but splurge on a big trip every year. Since this is gonna be a rides trip, I want our favorite to be open!! If it went down while wewere there I’d be sad but understanding. Going down with it closed though...I might reschedule.

also Yulilin— just wanted to thank you for being a great mod and I’m so appreciative of all the reopening updates and info you’ve given.:)

that's a different story now :) yeah with all of those closed and some personal struggles it would be a good idea to rethink it. The actors are all eager to come back if it wasn't for the union-Disney dispute so hopefully that gets resolved sooner rather than later

But couldn’t a personal reason for canceling be because of numbers and trends? That’s why I canceled my August trip, unfortunately.

yes that is obviously a valid reason to cancel but this thread is NOT to discuss numbers and trends and what might the virus do, it's to just explain why you are or are not cancelling. This point has been made several times already. It's a rabbit hole, someone starts posting numbers and someone else comes to refute the numbers or name call.
And if you've already cancelled for August you say so and move on, no need to come back to this thread

Understood! I like coming back to the thread, still trying to talk to other Disney lovers to help me understand at what point we might go back. We’re AP holders and I do hope to get back soon.

and as long as you stay on topic in each thread that is fine. You have had this same argument in other threads so please stay on topic now that it has been explained why it is important. Thank you

No you’ve got me there 🤣 I’m definitely paying close attention to the numbers, not trying to annoy others though.
I do wonder if the school schedules will affect August/September Disney travel, with so much about schools still up in the air. We always plan around school calendar. I’m guessing that’s a moot point?

We are still social distancing, wearing masks, sanitizing everything.....but we are going to Disney still. I feel so stupid saying it because nobody understands. Even though nobody else is social distancing, they are having get togethers & going out to eat etc. But we're the crazy ones.
We were supposed to go next week. The only reason I cancelled was because Ohio has a 14 day quarantine after returning 😭. If it weren’t for that we would be going.
Same here everyone is having get togethers and going places, but kept asking are you still going!

Okay, sudden turn of events. We just canceled with only 2 days to go. My partner's mother was just diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. We just can't do Disney right now with everything going on plus having a close family member be immunocompromised. It was an easy call to make.

For those of you going, have a blast and eat an extra mickey pretzel for me.

All of that makes sense. I hope your partner's mother is okay / fares well.
