Ya just have to wait to see what August looks like and maybe early September as we should see volumes then of what was purchases since reopening through the end of the month.

Wondering if this might push better discounts.

I'm thinking we'll see deeper discounts on Aulani and Riviera this Fall/Winter.

I think Dec is out of wack as it's the only month that was sold after the resort was open. By the time you started hitting February (which didn't get the 2x points right?) the Covid situation was happening. Since typically guides I think want to sell the most recent UY right to avoid the extra banked points?

can someone kindly explain this to me, as I’m still confused with choosing my use year. I normally travel end of August and at times christmas/January. I thought that I should choose a June or August use year but my guide said I could choose December as it would be the only month I could get the extra years points onto my contract. Why is it that I can’t get them for June/August?

June is past and August is now; so you would be getting 2020 points. If you chose a Sept, Oct or Dec UY, then you get 2019 points and 2020 points. I just bought SSR direct and picked a Dec UY to match the resale contract that I'm in the process of buying. So, I got 2019 points that I immediately banked (can't go to WDW before Dec) and I'll get my 2020 points on Dec 1.

@LadybugsMum is correct, they can’t or at least won’t give you last years points, so if a use year has started, it won’t come with double points. So your options are basically buy a UY that has already started and fits your travel patterns well, or buy December, and if you have to cancel your August trip last minute (it is Hurricane season), the points go into a holding account and you can’t bank them; you’d have to use them by November 30.

Getting 2019 points with a December contract basically gives you one extra year of points for just the prorated cost of the dues. So if you have to cancel an August vacation once and you’re unable to use the points before they expire you’ll still be ahead. If it happens twice you’ll have been better off with the summer UY.

Thank you! all these banking/borrowing, use year rules has me confused...I think there needs to be a course offered, DVC 101 ;)

There are 3 option:
  • Most used: look at when you travel and have your UY the month of or directly preceding it / allows longest amount of time to deal with points that go in to holding or that are expiring if your plans change
  • Pick cheapest resale: don't worry about it / in the long run you are likely to change when you are traveling and a good UY now could be a bad one in the future
  • Walking priority: you place the UY 3 months after your latest dates you typically travel / this allows you the longer period to allow walking and you still have the option to bank points when cancelling 31 days prior to checkin since its prior to that 4 month banking period date

If it makes you feel any better I have been an owner for like 4 years and still don't understand use years and banking deadlines. I swear some people here know the dates and deadlines off the top of their head. But, I found a solution: Constantly borrow all available points to book your trip and you never have to worry about banking! :rotfl:

Haha!! We have been owners for 7 years (2 contracts, about to be 3) and I don't get the use year either. Our guide told us to always go into point "debt" and we will never get into trouble. With my schedule, it makes tremendous sense. After all the horror stories of owners with banked points, I am glad I took his advice. Next year might be my first year banking since we plan on doubling our points this year. Keyword: might:banana:

What happens if you late-cancel a trip with borrowed points?

We go the same week, in June, every year. It's 2 months after our use year. My employer knows my routine and I will not take a position that prevents this trip. This year is the first time in 10 years we didn't go in June. We just got back from our rescheduled trip this past weekend. Even when I was on active-duty military, I was able to keep my routine (mostly luck though). If I had to late cancel, I still have plenty of time to use my points. With this practice, it's easier to plan for a lost year

I don't think we have ever really managed to go at the same time. It's actually in my union contract that if you ask for the same time off as you had the year prior that someone less senior can bump you. I've worked in this position for almost 8 years....only one person can bump me. Hahaha! Low man totem pole problems....

In the first week of August Disney filed 90 sales with Orange County, or nearly as many as the entire month of July.

Only 25 of the 90 were for Riviera, with 11 more for CCV. 6 were for Boardwalk, 2 were for Beach Club and 1 for VGF, so half of the 90 were for the 5 sold out resorts that have incentives: 14 AKV, 12 OKW, 8 SSR, 8 Bay Lake Tower, 3 Polynesian.

Amazing, but it probably has to do with the current member incentives. I do wonder what happens if Riviera sales continue to slag. Clearly enough people hear about the resale restrictions and have a visceral negative reaction such that it may be worth Disney reconsidering.

Thanks for tallying that up for us!

But... shoot... 8 BLT in one week. I was hoping at the higher price point for BLT there wouldn't be as much demand, and therefore less likely my low-ball BLT resale would make it through ROFR. I'm not optimistic now.

Was the first week of august on par with last year sales wise or lower or higher?
