Due to needing widespread vaccinations or development of some type of massive herd immunity, if I was a betting man, I'd say cruising won't be back until some time in 2022. Curious what others think.

I think it'll return in 2021. Probably in the middle of the year. So April/May. That is purely a guess with no real research done on the virus. If I take a vacation in 2021, it'll be domestic. I'll wait until 2022 to cruise just to stay on the safe side.

Do you think we would have a US port cruise? Perhaps with a CC date included?

Just don't see it before 2022. Even if a vaccine is available in early 2021, will take 6 months to a year for those who will get it, and almost 40% of country has said they won't get it. Not enough to build up herd immunity. Unfortunately masks and social distancing are essentially an impossibility on a cruise ship.

I expect cruising to resume out of American ports by spring of 2021.

Covid doesn't need to be eradicated first. The high risk people just need some protection, such as an available vaccine, better treatments, or much lower community spread. Once one of those is achieved, I think cruising will resume.

Honestly no I don’t think cruising will be back in 2021. I want it to be, especially because we have my dream cruise booked in August 2021 but first they need to get a vaccine approved, second they need to distribute is and third people need to get it. I just think there are too many challenges facing the second two for cruising in 2021 to happen.

I’d be happy to be wrong though.

I voted yes, but I think it's more likely second half of 2021 at the earliest. With most of 2020 wiped out already, I am not sure if there are too many cruise lines that can stay in business if they are forced to remain idle for the entire year in 2021.

Unfortunately I agree with you 100%...Im thinking spring 2022

I would be kinda shocked if cruises DON'T resume in 2021, none of these cruise lines will survive if this shutdown goes until 2022. At least I don't think so.

I think by early 2021 there will be a vaccine and by summer 2021 it will be at least somewhat widespread. And as others have mentioned, a vaccine is not the end all be all, however it is very helpful. Covid will be a thing forever and all we can do is do our best to mitigate the risk. I anticipate a vaccine will help and who knows maybe it will even be required.

I hope you're right, I just think it will take longer....and to go to your first point, I do think there are some cruise lines that will never sail again. Disney is a financially secure enough company that I think they'll be fine but I do think some lines may never return

just can't see it...BEST case we see a vaccine by January or Feb 2021...can't see cruises a month later

Until then, we could reach consensus on a cure to prevent damages and death. A cure + vaccination + new measures imposed on cruise lines could make it safer for guests and cruising could be authorized again.

We have to watch what is happening in Europe as they started sailing again. We’ll learn a lot from that.

March 2021.

I'm fairly confident it will be back by then. Confident enough that I booked airfare yesterday! It wasn't a huge risk, since I got a killer deal on Southwest and their no-change fees mean we can just bank the credit for another trip if needed. But I put our odds at going at about 70% right now. I know many think I am crazy, but I watch the data very closely every day and I am optimistic for many reasons I won't get into because it tends to open a debate that gets us off the topic of cruising.

I agree. I think the 2nd half of the year is the most likely timeline. We have booked the 9N Southern at the end of July. Hopefully they will have re-started by that point and have some experience operating in whatever new environment exists at that time.

I think it will be back in 2021. As others have said, the virus doesn't have to be completely eradicated to resume cruising. We need some precautions in place, perhaps a start on people getting vaccinated. But this virus isn't going to magically disappear, even with the vaccine so at some point the CDC will start to be willing to take a balanced approach.

That being said, I don't think I will be sailing on the April 2021 cruise that I booked on opening day, before we had heard of this virus, if for no other reason than I don't see my state (and therefore my workplace) easing up on the post cruise quarantine requirements until things have settled down and there's a vaccine available.
