Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Seems like a good point in time to remember that while changing tiers is great for DtD stuff, it means nothing for theme parks. OC could be yellow and theme parks are to remain closed.

The governor says theme parks will operate under an entirely different system.

(I know the vets of this thread know this but we do get some newbies on Color Change Tuesday’s 😉)

The main area the color system helps Disney is with downtown Disney operations. Because they have to follow the dining and retail rules for the county.

Now, THAT is what I call a headline! :thumbsup2

Walt Disney Demands Reopening of Disneyland Resort in California
(MT Newswires)
Walt Disney Company (DIS) is seeking clearance to reopen the Disneyland Resort in California, which has been closed since mid-March, media reports said Tuesday, citing the company's virtual press conference from inside the Anaheim theme park.

Disney Parks, Experiences & Products Chairman Josh D'Amaro is urging California Governor Gavin Newsom to treat "theme parks like you would other sectors," according to the reports.

"Help us reopen," he said in the press conference, addressing the state.

Hate to point this out but theme parks are being treated like other sectors. Indoor malls are closed. Regular movie theaters are closed. I'm not saying it is right that they are closed, but theme parks are not the only establishment unable to open.
Shopping malls are open at 50% capacity in Orange County and movie theaters at 25% . They also have guidelines while themeparks have nothing.

A lot of those places are open at limited capacity across the state and have guidelines.

The only place in CA where indoor malls are closed is LA county. Indoor malls can operate with the strictest category.

If DL were treated like everything else in the state, the only things that truly cannot reopen would be:

1) the gyms inside the hotels
2) the bibbity-bobitty-boobity botique inside fantasyland
3) all bars (i.e. Oga's)

Movie theaters are open (Lincoln, Tiki Room), transportation remains open (rides), shopping and malls are open (gift shop), dining is open.

The Supreme Court of CA long ago ruled that DL's rides are legally equivalent to mass transportation.

There's no legal basis to keep DL closed, period! ::grabs torch and pitchfork::

*facepalm
You're right. I was looking at the LA County guidelines and forget they went stricter than the state.
Okay, give us those guidelines!

Still, I'm a suspicious soul.
D'Amaro saying they need the right guidelines (in the Reuters article above) and I think I saw something about him asking for fair and equitable, makes me wonder if guidelines are in process that Disney is not on board with.

Something tells me that Disneyland wants to have a bit of a higher number allowed in the park that Newsom won't agree to so that is why they are saying they aren't being given guidelines. I just don't buy that Disney hasn't been given anything, but it's easier for Disney to say that they have all these practices in place but aren't being given guidelines because where are these ideas coming from then? I think they want more than what Newsom is agreeing to.

There is other theme parks to consider too though. It's not just Disneyland they are making guidelines for or gets to decide if they are okay.

Sorry but the state used that excuse weeks ago. The rest of the country figured it out, CA ought to be able to.

I agree with gottalovepluto, the "other theme parks" argument is pretty weak. The state needs to come out with guidelines. If ANY park shows they meet guidelines they can open. I am guessing a lot of them just won't care and decide to not open at this time. Its ridiculous to punish Disney & Universal because some smaller theme parks can't / don't want to meet the guidelines.

So what are people thoughts on how he would respond to this if he does? In one of the live updates? Any idea when we’ll see one next? I am OVER this haha!

I'm sick and tired of the situation. Here in Arizona, some gym owners sued the governor's office because they refused to publish any reopening guidelines for health & fitness gyms. Earlier this year, the governor's office had published reopening guidelines for gyms & invited gym owners to submit their plans to the state for evaluation & approval. Several gym owners did exactly that. And then they waited. And waited. And called and called and contacted the governor's office multiple times only to be ignored for months.

Then the lawsuit happened and a judge ruled that the governor had to provide guidelines for the gyms to be able to follow so they could reopen. They finally did so and gyms reopened. The gym my DH goes to went above and beyond the governor's mandatory guidelines. The crux of the lawsuit was that there were reopening guidelines for pretty much every other type of business except for gyms, so it was argued that the governor's executive orders were not allowing equal protection under the law to ALL businesses...since it appeared that they were targeting only certain types of businesses.

The CA governor's office better get their act together soon or maybe Disney will do the same thing.
