Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Our family has pre-purchased tickets in hand and I'm happy to plunk down $500-ish to stay 1 night at a DL on-site hotel so we can use our 2-day park tickets. I want to go, DH wants to go, the kids want to go. We are happy and ready to follow all of the rules. Ready to wear our masks all day long, etc., etc.

but this is ridiculous.

Yet another reason why DH & I are going to WDW instead in January!

So what are people thoughts on how he would respond to this if he does? In one of the live updates? Any idea when we’ll see one next? I am OVER this haha!
My thought is the "water" is starting to boil over and if someone ( you all know who I mean) Ne..... :) doesn't do something about it very soon and allow Disney to reopen that certain someone will be "burned" in one way or another and that is NOT a good look. It's time to be the "hero" Ne......(I hope I didn't overstep my bounds in the rule dept. Sorry if I did.)

I don’t know call me suspicious. Disneyland “decided” to not reopen in July but they wouldn’t have gotten guidance anyway. Now they hold this media conference demanding they allow theme parks. My suspicious mind is telling me that they did this just ahead of guidance being released for PR purposes. I would not be surprised to see guidance on Friday as was likely already planned.

Do you mean so that it makes both the government and Disney "look good"?

I'm sick and tired of the situation. Here in Arizona, some gym owners sued the governor's office because they refused to publish any reopening guidelines for health & fitness gyms. Earlier this year, the governor's office had published reopening guidelines for gyms & invited gym owners to submit their plans to the state for evaluation & approval. Several gym owners did exactly that. And then they waited. And waited. And called and called and contacted the governor's office multiple times only to be ignored for months.

Then the lawsuit happened and a judge ruled that the governor had to provide guidelines for the gyms to be able to follow so they could reopen. They finally did so and gyms reopened. The gym my DH goes to went above and beyond the governor's mandatory guidelines. The crux of the lawsuit was that there were reopening guidelines for pretty much every other type of business except for gyms, so it was argued that the governor's executive orders were not allowing equal protection under the law to ALL businesses...since it appeared that they were targeting only certain types of businesses.

The CA governor's office better get their act together soon or maybe Disney will do the same thing.

This is basically what happened with hair salons and, now, nail salons.

During today's live update, they mentioned that they have revised guidelines and will allow nail salons to open state wide, in the purple category.

It seems like the Nail Salon industry threatened to file suit, just as the association representing barbers and stylists did a couple months ago.

I feel like today's press conference was the industry giving the governor a "last chance" to issue the guidlines on his own, before they take legal action.

It is discriminatory, when you realize that guidelines have been issued that cover all other industries in the state except theme parks.

It’s circulating in the local news stations now. Someone from an online FB group just posted this. I imagine we’ll continue to see their quotes travel far. 🤞

Competing interpretations of Disney’s press conference today. Deadline refers to the calls for Governor Newsom to act as “Disney parks chief begs...” KTLA is more diplomatic with “presses” while the OC Register uses the alarmist descriptor “demands.” Personally, I’d characterize it as “Disney states its case and appeals to Newsom for timely action and direction.”

I received another call today from Disney Travel to cancel our 4th planned DL trip due to COVID. We were originally schedule for March, etc. etc. Each time prior we were offered a discount if we rebooked due to the inconvenience. That discount ran until October 3. During the phone conversation today, Disney travel said there weren't any discounts available. She mentioned to keep an eye out as their might be some in the future. This sounds like their standard DL discounts. I also read that DL might not even offer discounts because they have only the 3 hotels and many guests stay at the neighbor hotels.

One of the times we were canceled, they gave us a phone number for customer service. So I am asking should I get in touch with customer service (Does anyone have that #) or Disney Travel for the best possible chance of getting our previous discount? Do you think that those discounts won't come back? Is there any benefit to contacting customer Service? Has anyone had better luck with them?

I realize that I am asking for a crystal ball reading answer. I know the improbability that there are definite answers to these questions. During this past year we have rebooked knowing that there was a discount, now that's even shaky. Thanks for any help or advice.

I believe nobody has been given that discount beyond the original expiration. And lots have tried so I would not waste your time. The best you can get is the $50/day part of the offer.

I concur the person on the phone was referencing general discounts. I would not be surprised to see a general discount as prices for DLR hotels are waaaaaay beyond prices for local hotels and to be competitive during the weekday they need to do that outside of heavy demand seasons. That said if Disney gives a decent onsite benefit, like guaranteed park reservations, a discount might not be seen until next year.

There are some really close hotels to DLR on Harbor if proximity is your goal. And if nice hotel is your goal JW just opened and they’re cheaper than PPH rack rate from what I’m seeing. (And depending how late your trip is the Westin is due to open in Dec last I saw.)

I’ve decided I’m torn. Did Newsom tell them to get the public- but really mostly the unions- on board and then he’ll “approve” OR is Newsom just sitting on it for another reason?

I think it is public on board, but I do think there is an issue because while we know Disney will do safe, does anyone think SixFlags won't cut corners? Or other amusement parks?

Also, I find it interesting how 2 years ago, City of Anaheim was all against Disney, and now that they have lost $100 million, they are trying to cozy up to Disney.

In a necessary repeat of yesterday's reminder:
Please keep your posts on topic, i.e. related to DLR's reopening. This is not the thread to discuss COVID, virus stats, public health policies/opinions thereon, politics and politicians/opinions thereon, etc. if they are not related to DLR's reopening. There is a difference between posting facts and news updates vs. preaching/ranting/venting opinions about those facts and updates.
Please keep your posts courteous and respectful to others. It is totally possible to disagree without being dismissive, rude, or hostile.
Thank you to everyone who kept this thread going with updates on the press event, the news headlines, and the links/sources!
Back to our show now in progress...
