News Round Up 2020

What saddens me is how more and more we as a society have become hermits. I see it all the time even before Covid. Its not just the theatres, its restaurants, bars and live events. More and more would rather stay home then go out to do anything.

Sounds wonderful ... At least the idea of only going out when wants, not because you kinda have to (too peopley out there)

I enjoy going out once a week to eat and drink. Especially if NHL is on. My comment is more on that more and more people really like to stay in and look at the same 4 walls everyday.

This what actually frightens me the most about Covid.

It's like it's all just slipping away. Sometimes I think people don't realize how much is gone and never coming back.

I agree. It was already happening before Covid. I look at the thread in this board about people doing things they used to do. Many posted saying they rarely went out to eat, drink or go to the movies.

It is in the nature of people to come together. The Spanish Flu was followed by the roaring 20’s. This won’t have the long lasting impact on human behavior that many think.
In some cases things will come back. As far as eating out and going to the movies unfortunately it's accelerated what was already happening before Covid. Many people prefer to stay home over going out. It started before Covid and now is just accelerated. Its very sad to see our society turn into hermits.

Do you guys all have kids? If not you can borrow mine, guaranteed to snap ya out of your bored sitting at home syndrome! Plus, bonus points if you take them to the parks!

I have kids and still go out once a week. I didn't mean it as it's boring at home but I see it posted a lot how many would rather stay home then go out.

Theatrical movies you are probably correct on. Completely incorrect on dining out. The amount of money Americans spent on dining out had been accelerating for years before the pandemic. Now those dollars had been migrating from national chains to more local establishments, but more Americans were eating out more often than ever.

I don't know where you live or what's going on around there but I can tell you for fact that where we live number of people going out to restaurants has dropped dramatically! As a result of that many of them, especially local ones are dropping like flies. Louisville had a very strong local food community that is rapidly deteriorating because of the pandemic. What I've read this is happening everywhere.

I am talking about prepandemic. The restaurant business was growing before the pandemic. The pandemic did not accelerate a trend that already existed before the pandemic.

Some of it for us on money - either we take the whole family or get a baby sitter. Either way it's like a $100/evening to go to the movies. More than that to each out at a decent place

Plus being around people stresses me out - I recharge being alone

$100 is insane. It costs half of that as our Costco sells a package for $20 which includes 2 tickets, 2 drinks and 2 popcorn.

I'm not a big people person either but can't stand being at home all the time either.

Well for 5 people is a bit more than that, or we get a baby sitter which is at least $50 right there

We go out some - be it to a restaurant or hiking or biking or something. Or would hang at friends' houses. I just also welcome the option for doing more from home

Actually, since the pandemic started I have had regular zoom meetings with friend and other catch-up - my wife says I have been more social since this all started than before
