Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

“…If I had a 7-day slide, you’d actually see a slight increase in ICU admissions, so still a decrease over a 14-day period, but boy, what more of a reminder do you need than seeing these numbers begin to plateau. And not only plateau but you can see just from that low that we experienced, we are seeing a number of new patients… [discussions about third/second wave] This is what all the epidemiologists and scientists, anyone that followed any of our history or data from 1918, 1919 Spanish flu pandemic, this is what we anticipate moving into the colder season, moving into the season where more of us are moving inside, into a season when more of us begin to mix and come back, extended family members for the holidays. This is an area of obvious and real concern and that’s why we are being very sober and forgive me, stubborn, about some industries in the state that I know are eager to get guidelines. Tomorrow, Dr. Ghaly will update you on some of those industries and guidelines, including sports and, um, some of these theme parks [frowns]. We’re going to break up the theme parks, not just 1-2 brands, its many different parts that are part of a theme park industry. But Dr. Ghaly will be updating you tomorrow on those guidelines. Again, I hope one recognizes our stubbornness on a health-first data-driven, decision making process is done with our eyes wide open on whats happening now around the world, not just whats happening across the United States, not yet here in the State of California, but that’s only because we are being vigilant and have to maintain that vigilance to avoid any further increase in transmission.”

Closing

“Tomorrow lets look forward to Dr Ghaly’s presentation and update on tiered status and some new guidelines that will be put out on issues related to theme parks and hopefully as early as late this week, early next week, on team sports and other guidelines”

And in the Q&A, he stated there are no plans to require quarantine for travelers from other states.

Interesting he said no plans to require quarantine for travelers from other states. Maybe that travel restriction thing was taken off the table.🤔

That was more of a general question, not for theme parks. He was asked about how places like New York instituted a quarantine and he said they had no plans to do that.

OK. Cool thanks. It still leaves me hopeful about the travel restriction thing.

Since this is a speculation thread anyone want to take a guess on the guidelines?
Here's mine - Small parks (I'm thinking Scandia) can open in orange and at 25% capacity. Larger parks (Disney, Universal) can open in yellow at 25% capacity

Yuck! I hope you are wrong on the yellow tier. :rotfl2:

So I though about it some more, if the parks didn't like the guidelines we will see a leek.... if they are ok with them everything will continue as normal. I just think they already know what's going to be said based on how fast everything has moved in the last 2 weeks.

I hope they don't have to wait until yellow. If they do, that is basically what the original leaked guidelines said and that nothing has changed...
I think a big sticking point of the original guidelines was that visitors had to live within 250 miles. (was it 250 or 200???)

I think possible ways of classifying theme parks would be with/without rides, indoor/outdoor rides, with hotels/without hotels, live entertainment/recorded, and capacity.

I think they would encourage food and retail operations and allow fully outdoor rides and dining. Attendance would be at X percentage or Y number, whichever is less.

Knotts has guidelines for hotel stays. I think state guidelines would be similar, especially with how turn down service is done.

I don't think a distance rule will be in place, but I could see something with staggered or trackable attendance (timed entry, RSVP days) being done.

I don't think this is likely, but AP only (regardless of where they live) might be done because the company would have a record if they swiped in to visit and most likely an email address to contact them.

If the unions are talking tiers, then that may be how things will go. However, I don't think that will be likely. Newsome probably wants to tie opening to tiers but most likely only parts will be done that way. For example, no live singing or performances until orange or red, blah blah blah.
