I think many would still go to see Smugglers Run and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway both very new attractions as well.

Right, I can see your point. I think its no coincidence that they opened three major rides within 12 months of each other. I think SR is lame (but I know a lot of people like it, so no judgement on them) and I love Mickey and Minnie, but I feel like its still a pretty underwhelming park when you take RotR out. Its pretty mindboggling how Slinky was the coveted ride just a little over a year ago that nobody could get a FP+ for (...unless you knew about pounding obviously).

And TSLand and RnRC and ToT :D

We all have our preferences, and I don't want to be negative towards anybody for what they like and don't like. Its just personal preference. I love ToT, but I personally feel like RRC is garbage. I'm a major coaster enthusiast, been on 450 unique coasters, and RRC just doesn't do it for me. But I appreciate that other people like it, and I'll give it a spin once a visit unless I'm trying to make it a shorter trip just to get on RotR. I'm sure that as a moderator you know your way around coasters too and don't need somebody else telling you what's right or wrong with rides (but if you want me too I'm always willing too :) I just don't want to be a nuisance).

I saw the Disney parks blog article announcing the board group virtual queue change, but are they announcing the change in any other way? How will the average (not message board fan like us) Disney tourist be made aware of this BIG change? My family has a HS reservation for 11/4 and I have no idea if the change will appreciably alleviate rope drop congestion or if tons of people will show up before 10am anyway because they don't know that the virtual queue opened at 7am.
I just got an email at home - for my upcoming Nov 12-20 reservation telling me of the change

With the current park opening time of 10am, that's 3 hours from the time a BG is obtained to get to the park for those who get early BG numbers. That should be ample time to get there, even IF they change the park opening time to 9am as that's still 2 hours.

Not to mention people that are currently determined to get a BG are already physically at DHS before 9am already now, so it shouldn't be burden for anyone that scores the first BGs of the day.

I agree that it's a smart change. I was just mentioning that from a system point of view it's not just a time change. I have been testing system creations and changes for over 20 years so it's hard to turn off the 'it's just a change in time' part of my brain as I'm always shocked by how many changes need to be made behind the scenes for something like this to happen. I would anticipate many, many people have been working on this change and testing it for months now before being ready to announce it publicly.
The technical change is complicated too, because the system will work differently at 7:00 versus 2 p.m. In the a.m. you don't need to be in the park, but at 2 o'clock you do. So, different search features for the system to work properly under each scenario. Might be a few glitches, but I trust they've tested it. Over all I think this is a positive change.

And TSLand and RnRC and ToT :D

yeah we really enjoy most of the rides at Studios. We would be fine even if we didn’t get on Rise. Star Wars isn’t that much of a thing for us. I hate RnR and enjoy slinky. My kid is the opposite lol.We each tolerate one of those for the other.

I was very surprised by the news about the change to boarding groups (no email yet as my reservations don't start till 11/17... I saw it on FB)... I have mixed feelings only because I don't necessarily trust Disney IT to ensure that ONLY people who already have a park reservation for DHS will be "eligible."

But if that part works I'l be very happy not to be fighting to get in by rope drop. That's the biggest stressor for me of this trip.

Can you request to not be within six feet of others during the experience, including the actual ride? Or are they forcing everyone to abandon distancing now that they put up plexiglass?

So, if you don't need to be on property, what does that mean to all the people 'practicing' off-site to get BG's--with no intention of showing up??? Does this mean there are going to be alot of 'fake' BG's floating around with everyone practicing for their future trips?

That's a valid point. We've been practicing at home a few times, and know we can't get any further when asked about all guests being in the park. I guess the app will somehow use your phone's location to determine if you can get a boarding group or not and the e-mail wording does say "before you leave your Resort hotel or wherever else you happen to be nearby at the time".

If you’re at WDW you’re going to constantly be within 6 feet of people

I've been. I'm local. And aside from some quick passes on congested walkways and some line snafus that are Disney's fault for inadequate lateral spacing, I've kept 6+ feet away. Anyone who is constantly within six feet of others at WDW is not following proper distancing protocols.

You will need to have a valid park pass and park reservation for DHS that day to be eligible to get a BG. No different from needing to be tapped into the park now to get a BG.

not saying the system can’t break occasionally as it has with the current system but that’s not how the system is supposed to work.

I wonder with this change if they'll stop letting people in so early?! They're probably also looking to shave off an hour of CM pay on the morning shift.

I have a reservation for the 3rd at HS and I received an email today.

As a reminder for all folks following along this flexibility is only valid at the 7 AM VQ BG window until BGs are all reserved.

For the 2 PM VQ BG Window you must be inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios to access this second virtual queue availability window. (This is also a change from the current rules).
