CONFIRMED covid-19 family knew they tested positive and chose to visit WDW and fly on a plane

If you KNOW you have COVID (have a positive test) and go somewhere . .it is pretty irresponsible right now -- especially if it is just for vacation .. ESPECIALLY getting in such a closed indoor space like a plane. People do things all the time while sick with a cold or flu (especially if symptoms aren't bad), but I can't fathom people doing it in 2020 (or 2021) EVEN IF you aren't concerned about your own safety from the virus.

But .. then again .. that's why we have all these precautions right? To prevent/minimize spread by people who don't know they have it. So these same precautions should help against someone who knows they have it. Hopefully those help -- the proof will be in the pudding .. how many of the other people on the plane will now test positive?

But like others have said, it is naive to think that people going to WDW don't have the virus (whether they know it or not).

But if more people be irresponsible like this, it gives government officials more ammunition to do crazy things like try a forced quarantine for anyone who tests positive .. and we don't want that to happen for many reasons.

People are getting it EVERYWHERE now.
People who are ridiculously cautious.

I know people who travel all the time and never get it.

Unfortunately we know someone who was super cautious and got it.

To place blame on Disney or the airlines is useless.
I'm not blaming either one of those things. I put the blame squarely on people. Covid needs people for it to spread. Some where people have completely just forgot that and decided taking risks are ok.

Whether or not we know the real facts of this specific story, the main premise is a reality. There are people who will travel while symptomatic. And while positive.

What do you think people do if they start feeling symptomatic while at WDW? Stay and isolate in FL instead of going home? You know some people will just fly home as planned.

Maybe some would rent a car, but still irresponsible to use public restrooms on the road while symptomatic or positive.

Many people travel to WDW with NO plan for what they would do if they became symptomatic on their trips. Or, the plan they do have (aka no plan) puts others at risk. How many have a backup place to stay where they won’t be in contact with anyone? How many will put up the money to stay in FL until they’re clear?

This is the risk of traveling right now and unfortunately it shouldn’t surprise anyone.

Who is joking about a man dying?

Probably a reference to me “What did they buy” comment. Which wasn’t a joke about the mans death as much as it is a little questionable that we’re now getting into an invasion of property. Why are we searching through this man and his family’s belongings when the threat has nothing to do with what bags he had on board. Contact tracing based on a shopping bag is useless. If you’re going to Disney or any theme park you should be getting tested and also quarantining after your trip regardless. And if you’re not, contact tracing does nothing here

This man went to Disney sometime in the last 2 weeks. Let’s contact all 200,000 people that were there at that time and make sure they all quarantine immediately, even though it’s already too late by now and either they quarantined as they should have been, or already exposed more people. Contact tracing works in certain situations, not a vacation destination that is bringing in ~60+ thousand people per day between the 4 parks on even slow days

Does anyone really think this is the first time someone has flown with Covid? Or gone to Disney with Covid? Sadly he died and it made the news (and lets be real, that's the only reason why), but this changes nothing from the day before or the day after.

Come on.
Yep. Everywhere there are people who know they're sick and continue to go out.

Yes, on another discussion board, a poster wrote he was extremely sick and asked us to pray for him. A few weeks later he recovered and said he thinks it was the regular flu. Unlikely. I asked if he quarantined. He said no.

Same as having unprotected sex while knowing one to be HIV positive, these people need to be charged with reckless endangerment or whatever the crime is.

Wife works for united airlines. Confirmed by the CDC testing too. A passenger died flying home after a vacation to WDW on the airplane. So cal family chose to travel to WDW even though they had tested positive and one family member had symptoms. They knew they had covid-19 but chose to go on vacation. Can't believe people would knowing fly twice and be in such a crowded space . Unreal and it's a cross country flight not a hop.

I know trips cost alot but everyone is waiving Change fees right now. Crazy story coming out. United also isn't blocking middle seats and will sell 100% of the plane. I know they are not alone they just got caught because sadly a passenger died on the flight and family admitted it to paramedics trying to save the life when they emergency landed in new orleans

See, where we are - they would be criminally charged since you are required by law to quarantine for 14 days after a positive test - and I 100% support this. Pathetic is the only word for that family.

The part I don't understand is if this family really was at WDW, why didn't the sick person get stopped at the temp checks. If there was someone who was so sick that they died on the way home, wouldn't he/she have been running a pretty serious fever for days before that? Or is it not confirmed that they actually WERE at WDW....??:scratchin

So here's my question... I thought airlines were supposed to be screening passengers before they board? So... what happened here? I mean if he was sick enough to die on the plane with Covid symptoms, someone dropped the ball in screening.

Do you have cold or flu like symptoms? No

Do you have an active temperature? No

Come on board.

The screenings are a facade meant to absolve companies from lawsuits and place that burden on the individual. No one in their right mind is going to show up to the airport, Disney or the grocery store and say yes to those questions if they want to be there.
