Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

Oh yeah, I know :) I've been very lucky with my requests in the past, so I'm probably due for a "denied" soon! haha!

I’ve had...
One that was next door to a corner room. (Sports)
One the complete opposite of what I had requested - and I still think it was because o arrived late, probably someone else had been assigned it and balked because it was the furthest away you could get. (POFQ)
One not granted because a SATG was in the section I had requested (I was fine with that). (Music).
And three that were in the same building but not the floor I’d requested. (Poly, AoA, and Pop).

I’m hoping that since my birthday trip reservation starts the first day they are taking reservations they should be able to do it!! Unless everyone requests the same thing - then I am hoping the “Celebrating my 50th birthday” note helps.

Personally, I am suspicious of TP’s accuracy for some of the Oasis Pool facing rooms in Rarotonga. While I can’t prove it, I’ve often felt those are leftover pre-Oasis Pool renovation categories that may/may not be accurate today.

I’ll give Disney credit, they are often pretty legit with their room categories. A palm tree can be the difference in a TPV or LV category, even if the castle is still visible if you look around said tree. If I book a Pool/Marina View room, I’d be awfully annoyed if I was put in some of the Rarotonga Oasis Pool facing rooms looking at the back of the Oasis Pool Bar/Grill building.

Touring Plans room data for Poly is out of date. I don't even think they have the current long house names (I haven't check since last Fall).

From Tikiman,...."The longhouses that have Marina and Pool view rooms are Fiji (marina side of the longhouse is Marina View), Samoa (all of Samoa is pool view), Niue (two ground floor rooms facing the Oasis pool are Pool View) and Rarotonga (the second and third floor facing the Oasis Pool are Pool View). "

So they don't count the ground level of Rarotonga that would be bar view.

Well respectfully, what you quoted from Tikimans website is the same as what TP shows for second/third floor Rarotonga rooms.

Well, I did say I hadn't checked in a while. As recently as last 5-6 months ago, TP room finder map still used 2015 longhouse names (Rapa Nui, Tahiti, etc.) and didn't have any Pool/Marina option in their room finder (that option returned in 2018?). Looks like they final made the update in the meantime.

I was looking at their views 5-6 months ago and TP most definitely had the current names. AND Pool/Marina view listed.

I think this just points to the long history of room view type questions that have ‘plagued’ Poly guests forever and probably account for 1/2 the posts on this thread over time. While some view types are obvious, some have always been a little suspect, only made worse over time by category changes, fan/blog websites that may/may not be accurate, etc.

I have often wanted to start a room view/category thread like what they do on the YC/BC thread, it may be time to get that going when Poly hotel side reopens and we can start building an accumulation of real world reports.

I am not in love with the flooring pattern or colors for a Pacific Island theme. The wall paper behind the coffee maker is quite bold when I think about getting morning coffee.

Finally the light fixtures are really generic vs the new lighting fixtures in the WL rooms. I like the light panel in the WL vs the large picture that is Moana from behind.
