Temp Checks

They’re gone at Universal too.

Universal is starting three foot social distancing tomorrow. Will Disney follow?
They might as well. People have been right on top of me all week, to the point they are bumping me with elbows while they are behind me in line.

I don’t think the temp checks are worth much anyway.

Yup. It's mostly useless. Temperature scanners are not good for detecting Covid for a variety of reasons -- no need for me to get into unless someone wants me to ;) And more and more data has come out to support this semi-recently, which would make sense as to why Disney might now be thinking about removing it.

It was certainly a reasonable precaution to take when we were first still learning about the virus.... not really now though. Although, it's not like it's that big of an inconvenience either, so whatever.

Side note -- I just went to a local hospital for a routine procedure today. They used to do similar temperature checks at the entrance there as well. They are no longer doing that, I noticed today. If a well respected hospital is no longer doing it... I think it's perfectly fine for Disney to stop as well.

I don’t think they do either. I’m a teacher and had to them for a good part of the year and the kids temps would read 92 or 93 in the winter and as we got into spring they were suddenly 97 and 98 everyday. Those forehead scanners just aren’t accurate. Thankfully we’ve stopped temp screens at school.

They are horrible and so inaccurate and really a fever means alot of things. There are also alot of causes for a fever that doesn't make someone contagious.

Temperature checks were more about making people feel safer then actually doing much to make us safer.

Fever was not a great indicator of covid.

Creating an environment where guests feel safe can be almost as important as making them safe. If guest don't feel safe they won't visit.

I agree. Sad regardless so much time and money wasted on this.

They should have stopped this sooner - everywhere not just in Disney.

No, temperature checks were about making people feel safe. Very important. Vaccination is available to everyone old enough. That actually makes people safer.

Temperature checks are no longer required to make guests feel safer.

I'm of two minds. When we suspected I had COVID my temp was 98.5, when it's normally 97.3 The higher than normal temp was a clue, but I would have passed a screening for sure.

I think it forced people to be more careful and consider themselves before going to a park. I'm sure there were families going with members on tylenol, especially people from out of state, but maybe people were also more mindful of their own health. Being mindful was/is the best precaution. Same with social distancing. Do people always keep it? No. But maybe now if they sneeze they might think "hey, let me stand away from everyone right now."

I'd love to know how many people were actually identified as having a high enough temp to be denied entry. Most people I know have a typical temp lower than average these days. It would take a lot to get high enough to register. Most with a temp that high would have not felt up to visiting the parks.

Neither do I. They’re for show. I work for a hospital. All patients have to be temp checked. None of the employees do. We walk by all of the visitors and patients being checked on our way into work. It never made sense to me.
I work part time so I come in at different hours. After 8:30 AM or so, no one is checking temps. I am honest to a fault, so I check my own, but I know no one else does! (And my husband had covid and never had a fever, so there's that too...)

I am glad the temp checks are going away. There are many things that can cause a hot forehead that are not a fever (such as the sunburn I got last week even using a high SPF) and it was just a layer of extra anxiety for me. I took my temp in the room every day so I knew I was good to go. I was even afraid to make ADRs in case I got turned away. I have only had a fever once in all the years of visiting WDW, and believe me, I didn’t want to be anywhere but in bed (it was a case of the seasonal flu about twenty years ago).

Honestly I'm a bit surprised I didn't hear any complaints from people who were blocked from entering due to a high recorded temperature. It would have definitely been publicized, especially if the person being blocked felt they weren't sick.
