My wife loves to shop at Disney (ok... truth be told, so do I). You will probably characterize us as having gone "bonkers" over it, but we passed on any items that we didn't really like. I wasn't interested in getting stuff just because it said 50th on it. But there were a lot of things that we did like.
We decided not to abandon our diets on this trip (both of us managed to lose some weight during the trip), so I ended up cancelling a lot of (somewhat pricey) ADRs. We ate more light meals in our villa and skipped meals if we weren't particularly hungry. I say all that as a preface to my decision to shift that meal money in our budget to shopping. So we splurged on buying more things than we might have otherwise.
Big Top 50th anniversary "day of" merchandise:

Other 50th anniversary items from the park:

Several 50th pins from Frontierland Trading Post
Other 50th anniversary items from Disney Springs/WOD:
Several pins from Disney Springs pin store
50th Lanyard and Lanyard Pouch from Disney Springs pin store
Loungefly 50th Minnie Mouse ears
Pair of 50th Magic Bands
50th Fleece Blanket
50th gold-trimmed glassware (pair)
50th Photo Album
50th Photo Frame
50th Castle pendant and earring set
Lego 50th mini-castle
The 50th Loungefly mini-backpack purse was always sold out, but I got my wife a Purple Wall one... which, personally, I like better because the Disney connection is subtle and only those "in the know" get what it is. Even though she liked the 50th one, I just couldn't see my wife using it day to day emblazoned with Mickey, etc. and WDW 50th all over it.
Not 50th merch, but I also splurged on the Star Wars "holographic" chess set and a framed art print of Animal Kingdom Lodge that I've been wanting for quite a while now.
