Marathon Weekend 2023

I am also curious what running with a charity is like if anyone has any experience. I see some of the sites saying that participants have to follow certain "rules and requirements" and I am wondering if that means mandatory events during the MW or anything like that. Not that I mind jumping through a few hoops (especially if I'm raising money for a good cause), I just don't want it to dominate my experience while I'm there.
I ran for GKTW for Princess 2020. They had a runners dinner I think Friday night. It was not required though. We also got a free shirt that many people wore for the race, but again not required. Honestly, I could have gone down there and not interacted with the charity at all. They had a tent set up near the starting area where people met and gathered, and they had some waters you could take. Other charities may require more I guess though.

Booked a room for POFQ starting Dec 31 and will change it later. Will keep my eye out for dedicated rentals as I managed to get a partial one for BC last year late in the game (October maybe?). But at least I've got something and I decided to treat myself with a bit nicer digs than Value this time. I've got a half marathon next weekend that will hopefully give me a good baseline for where to start my training. Weather for it is looking perfect (high 40s/low50s).

You can actually make the change and pay directly from your registration on the RunDisney site these days. No need to contact RunDisney for race changes any more, unless it’s complicated for some reason.

That’s for a direct registration, not a charity registration change, though.
Fancy! I definitely remember printing out some kind of sheet, scanning it and sending it to runDisney. That was like 5-6 years ago though!

We were at Beach Club for Princess. It was NOT a good bus situation. And yeah it was SO frustrating because why couldn't we have just walked through epcot to get to the start? That as a contingency plan would have been very useful.
Uh oh. I'm booked at Beach Club and this makes me nervous.

RunDisney uses contract buses for the races, so the drivers aren't always familiar with the area. There are always a few isolated bus nightmare stories during any given race weekend, but it's random what resorts they happen with and the number is tiny compared to the number of bus trips made during the weekend. I wouldn't base my resort selection or worry about it based on individual stories from past race weekends.

If the outcome of the draw of the lottery has no value why would anybody pay for it once the draw has been made? Under Florida law, it doesn't have to be a cash value for it to be considered something of value and for the law to apply. Who pays cash for something that has no kind of value anyway?

Two things:

1) You will find that in any case regarding raffles/lotteries, to be captured under the statute, there has to be consideration on both sides. So those who join the lottery need to give something for the chance to receive something. In this case, even if you can show that "the right to register for a race" has a value, I didn't give anything up to take a chance at getting that right (other than my time which likely doesn't qualify as value for this purpose as it didn't keep me from doing other things during that same time). The payment I make after the lottery is for my race registration, not my lottery entry (and a payment after a lottery draw occured wouldn't count anyway unless I committed to pay before entering the lottery). If this was like the NY Marathon or others that charge you to enter the lottery, it could be different. So while we are calling this a lottery (and I don't think Disney does), it really isn't what the statute was trying to cover.

2) Because this is a FL state statute, unless the statute gives a private right of action (and I'm not going to take the time to check), the only one that can enforce it is the state. While more transperency would be nice, I'm not a FL resident, but I wouldn't be thrilled, with everyting else happening in the world, if the state took the time and resources to bring a case against Disney for something like this.

I ran for a small charity back in 2020 and my experience was similar to @luv2cheer92 in that there was nothing that I was required to do. In fact, there was nothing TO do. I had a singlet, which I wore, and I saw one person--the coordinator, who was also running. We were supposed to have a group photo before the half, but that didn't happen since she and I were the only ones to show up!

I stayed at Yacht Club for a race weekend. No bus issues but I really disliked not having a food court. Not being able to walk up and have options at your convenience has deterred me from YC/BC for race weekends. For regular trips, I love these resorts for the proximity to Epcot. Also, if you have a DVC room, the kitchen would make it easier.

Same. Every race weekend I have done there has been some sort of transport issue I hear about. I have never been involved in them and most of them seem to be avoidable by catching an early bus. Drivers will get lost but even that is less of an issue on an earlier bus. I usually catch the 1st or 2nd bus and hear about people stuck in traffic as I am standing in the corrals!

Just plan on walking to Yacht Club to get on the bus.

Hopefully they remedied things after the Princess snafu this year, but I remember even in 2019 several buses that were almost completely full when they reached Beach Club due to going to Yacht Club 1st.

While not rD, I did run for charity for Marine Corps, and pretty much the same as the others replies. They had my bib at their table at the vendor expo, and that was pretty much the only interaction that was required of the group. Anything else in-person-wise was optional. I received a running shirt from them, an extra cute medal from them, and they had a pasta dinner the night before (extra cost) and a tent at the finish line that were both completely optional. I did stop by the tent afterwards for some extra snacks - they had chocolate milk there! Plus they had recovery massages and extra medical type things if anyone was in need. Excellent experience though and I'd do it again. :) Semper K9.

My first rD HM in 2018 I drove but this time I am not renting a car so the bus it is. About that time do the busses start in the early AM?

yep, 3am. For princess weekend I was a little lazy and got out at 3:15 or so on HM day and caught a bus pretty fast. 10k day I think I was on the first bus and there was one waiting to start loading as we were pulling off. Def easier to catch one if you can drag yourself out of bed. I don't bother eating or doing my hair until I get to the runner area. Minimal prep in the room then finish the morning stuff while I am waiting.

We were at Beach Club for three of the MW 2022 mornings and the two morning Springtime Surprise races, and we had no issues. The only minor thing after the SS 10 miler was our bus driver pulled up to the BC bus stop, but then kinda kept going. We were like, “uhhh, you gonna stop?!” So he did. 🤷🏼‍♀️😆 Sometimes they need a little help… Beach Club is the home resort we use the most for race weekends, and we love it. I wouldn’t be nervous. 🤗

I was looking at the charity Team in Training this morning...for the Dopey, they require you to stay in some hotel which they wont say.
And for 5 days at this hotel you pay half the cost for $5500 and you pay nothing for the hotel for $8000. It seems
unfair that they didnt name the hotel nor did they give you a choice of just doing the fundraising w/o hotel..??

The $5500 fundraising level includes the hotel cost with another team in training roommate. $8000 level is if you want your own room. The team in training spots sold out in 15 minutes and is waitlist only.

ETA: Goofy and Dopey sold out. All other distances are available as of 3:25pm ET for Team in Training.
