We attended the World of Color Dessert Party on opening weekend (4/23). I wanted to share a detailed review for people who are looking for information. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have that I did not address here.

This was the second night of the return of the WOC Dessert Party. We attended the first show (9pm with an 8pm entry to the dessert party). We were a party of two adults and two kids (ages 7 and 8).

Based on helpful information shared by a fellow DISer who went on the first night, we lined up at 7:35pm. Look for the brown podium across from Little Mermaid. That is where you want to be.

It was a bit chaotic, people were unsure where to line up, people who had color groups and not dessert party tickets mistakenly lined up with us, several CMs were trying to wrangle the crowd and finally put down tape to manage the queue.

They started letting people in around 8:05. We were maybe 10 or so parties back from the front of the line. We get seated by 8:15.

They way it was working was you got to choose your table; they were not preassigned. You got your wristband from the podium, then walked down to the tables. At the next podium the CM asked where you would like to sit.

The tables are low-top in the first row, then high-tops in the second row (though their are not many of these and they don’t extend across the entire area (the middle of the seating area is sort of empty). Then there is a second row of high-top tables in the final third row.

We wanted high-top tables in the second row but they were gone. We asked for a high-top table with no high tops in front of it and the CM basically said take whichever table you want. We chose the table right across from the podium where she was checking us in, which had no other tables on the right side of us and low-tops in front of us. It worked out great and we have a wonderful view.

The high-top tables have director’s chairs. They are very comfortable and have foot rests. The kids were happy as were the adults. Sitting in the chairs at a table felt so luxurious! We had been at the parks 12 hours at that point and our legs were so tired. It was so relaxing and wonderful.

Some pictures of the view from our table at various points during the evening:

Shortly after we were seated, our dessert plates arrived. We all had the standard plates. I forgot to take a picture of the menu but I’m sharing a photo of the menu from the night prior (which is the same) that was was shared by another poster (hope she doesn’t mind!).

Unlike previous years, no bread basket was served, which was disappointing. We did get three packages of three Carr’s water crackers on our plates (nine crackers total). I saw a picture of the desert plates from the night before (opening night, 4/22), which did not appear to have crackers so maybe some people complained. Seeing as one of the cheese is a Brie cheese it would be strange to not have a cracker or bread to spread it on.

Next our server came over to take our drink orders. She was wonderful, very friendly and trying very hard to make our experience excellent. She brought bottled waters without us asking, which was nice.

The kids ordered the non-alcoholic specialty drink called Cherry Breeze, which was like a Shirley Temple. They were served in cute glass jars.

The server also brought the kids light-up cups shaped like spheres with a glow cube inside (the same glow cube you can get at Blue Bayou). The cups say World of Color on one side and California Adventure on the other.

My SIL ordered the speciality cocktail called a Rainbow Spritzer, which is made with tequila. My SIL said it basically tasted like a margarita and I think the server mentioned hibiscus. It was kind of small but she said it was strong. It was served in a square glass.

I was excited to see beer listed on the menu since I don’t drink hard alcohol and I wasn’t interested in drinking bad sparkling wine. (To be fair, I was assuming here. I didn’t try it and I don’t know what brand they are serving.)

The server didn’t know what beers were available so she left to ask, then came back to let me know there was one option, which was Red Trolley, which I love so that was exciting for me. My beer came in a plastic cup.

The server left us to enjoy our drinks and dessert plates, and stopped a few times to check on us. She came by to ask if we wanted our second drinks shortly before the show started and then they stop serving during the show.

They also brought boxes by for leftovers (it really is a ton of food, we barely ate half and we ate a very light dinner). We ate the rest the next day at the pool (yum!).

Once you have a wrist band you can come and go as you please. I left to use the restroom shortly before the show started (I went to the restrooms past Little Mermaid over by Grizzly River Run and I was back in just over five minutes).

As I was coming back from the restroom people were the CMs where they could watch if they didn’t get a color group in the virtual queue and the CMs were directing them to stand by the wall in front of Little Mermaid. I am not sure how well you can see the show from there.

We all loved the show. My son had never seen it before. His favorite part was the Pirates of the Caribbean segment. I had only seen it once before maybe three or four years ago) and I couldn’t remember fine details so I can’t really compared it to the shows of the past. But I thought it was just fantastic.

The area where the dessert party is set up is all the way in the back of the viewing area, which means your lower view is partly blocked by the people standing in the front areas of the viewing area. You can’t really see some of the low water effects, but I would say that did not affect my enjoyment of the show. People also put their kids up on their shoulders in that area, which further blocks the view.

(Small side rant … I truly hate when people do that! Parades, shows, whatever. I hold my kid on my hip. Yes, it is uncomfortable but I don’t want to block someone else’s view for my one child’s view, not even to relieve my aching arms. End rant.)

Regarding the actual desserts/food, I don’t know if I just had really low expectations after reading a lot of reviews that they weren’t very good or if Disney stepped it up. But honestly we all thought the desserts were great!

The rainbow crispie treat was my least favorite but still fine. (It was the kids’ favorite.) It’s very sweet, normal crispie treat fare.

The Blue Raspberry Bunt Cake *was* blue, but it tasted like vanilla bunt cake. There was no raspberry flavor at all, but it was very good! It was very moist and had a great vanilla flavor. All four of us liked this one.

The shortbread cookie filled with raspberry was SO GOOD! It tasted like a homemade frosted strawberry Pop-Tart. All four of us loved this!

The triple chocolate cheesecake was delicious! It was the favorite dessert of myself and my SIL. The kids didn’t like them so we scored and each had one at the dessert party and one the next day at the pool. 😆

The cheeses were abundant and quite delicious, especially the Toma Provence. We had a lot leftover and ate cheese and crackers for a mini lunch at the pool (before devouring the rest of the sweets).

The fruit was grapes. They weren’t the best. Mine were a little too soft.

In the end, we all enjoyed the experience. For me, it was better than I expected and I do recommend it if you are on the fence.

The $89/person is really hard to swallow though. I kind of had to just put it out of my mind once I booked it so I could focus on the experience and not the value. Because honestly, it’s NOT worth $89/person. But this is Disney and you do these things sometimes. It was very enjoyable! Having a comfortable seat to watch the show was glorious!

I don’t think I’ll do it again anytime soon, simply due to the price tag. But it was so fun to do once and is a special memory we will always have.

After failing to get a Virtual Queue for the second time, I have a different perspective. I used to think the Dessert Party was a bad value but at least until the popularity of World of Color dies down, it'll save you the risk of spending your afternoon in self loathing if you mess up the virtual queue. I never failed to get boarding passes in the morning for Rise of the Resistance and Web Slingers but World of Color is causing me problems.

I don't like the stress of remembering the noon virtual queue time and surprisingly prefer waking up early to get it over with. If World of Color is a huge priority, I think it's a good idea to postpone your trip till the virtual queue is easier or do a dessert party. I hate to think of what Fantasmic will be like if they don't bring back the dining packages.

Thanks for sharing your insights! I'm curious your thoughts on what the view would be like for those in the last row who don't line up super early? I doubt my kid would be cool with waiting in line long, so I imagining we might be one of the last ones seated. Did it look like there were any really bad views?

Since we had kids too, we didn’t want to sit at the low-top tables. The view did not look quite as good from there, though might be fine for a taller adult. There are also some high-top tables that are behind other high-top tables, and I wouldn’t want that personally.

Thank you for the review! I’m getting more excited for our reservation in June! It’s our boogie splurge for the trip. The other good thing about the dessert party over the virtual queue is being guaranteed the first show. My toddler would never make it to the later show.

Does anyone know if your whole party has to be lined up at check-in? I would love to just wait by myself and let my husband take the toddler somewhere. We may do that after check-in if we all have to be there.

Great and report of details! Appreciate you sharing with us. Looking forward to my dates for the dessert party.

As a local and Dream Key holder, I bought dessert tickets mainly to be able to enjoy the show without being stuck in the middle of the masses. A glass of sparkling wine and a sweet or two is the icing on the cake for me. 🍰 🥂

You don’t have to all be there until you reach the podium. So you could line up and they could meet you as you’re about to get to the podium, where you will all get wristbands, get your table assigned and then you can come and go as you please until showtime.

Thanks for the review! It helped me realize that our party is better suited for a Dinner Package. As nice as a seat & sweets sounds, it doesn't seem worth it to me when it's it the back of the crowd and you still need to line up. If it was at the front of the crowd then that would be a dif thing all together!

When I did a dining package we were toward the back as well (it was the Carthay Circle package). I remember looking over at the dessert party while I was standing there. I’m not sure if it’s different now.
