Tropical threat?? Leaving in 9 days...

Have you flown with wine and water before? Seeing the way suitcases get tossed around, I'd be scared of leakage.
Yes I have. I buy a 3 pack of wine from Sams club that comes in a box and then I wrap it in a trash bag well and then in a sweatshirt I don’t really care about. As far as the water goes it’s smaller waters completely sealed in plastic and in a trash bag as well. So far no incidents. Fingers crossed.

Wow this thing is just dragging… not gonna really be impacting Disney until like Thursday night. It does seem to maybe be weakening a little? NHC has it as a tropical storm when hitting land.

Still a H at landfall according to the latest NHC. This site won’t let me post the photos from Twitter…

I just moved our trip to February. We were due to arrive Thursday afternoon. I’m from Houston, so I know everything changes quickly with hurricanes, but felt it was too much money to mess with. Had to pay $75 to United, but I’ll receive refunds from WDW for room differences. The irony that the Gulf has been quiet all summer until the day we fly in…

Yes my mistake - I meant doesn’t stay a Hurricane while on land (just looking at the cone).

I think it's the blame of all the news stories talking about how quiet this year has been (which is true but still) :upsidedow

My husband's coworker and his wife got momentarily stranded in Puerto Rico due to Fiona, of course it's the season but they weren't quite counting on it happening when so much had not been happening the whole season.

I was sitting here thinking about storm related issues I have had at WDW in the past and got to thinking about Disney’s back up power. I have been there when they were running tests to make sure it was ready to use (the power was off a couple hours at night while they did their tests at WL), so there is no doubt it exists. However, at least during the tests, they did not use them for general power. There were emergency lights on inside and out, but no power to outlets and no AC during the test. I was also at CR one fine summer day when a lightning strike hit the power plant and the power was off from around noon to eight in the evening for part of MK and the entire hotel. We had a reservation for dinner and the restaurant didn’t open because of the power outage.

The point of this trip down memory lane is to say that there are a couple ways the backup power could be disabled (lightning or tornado), so it might be a good idea for anyone planning to ride out the storm at WDW to bring any power packs you have, even if it’s more than you usually bring, and top up your electronics and battery packs often. Never assume you can do it later. . .

Are WDW’s transmission lines buried? I’ve never really paid attention but thinking about it, I can’t picture seeing power lines.

Flirting around with idea of moving flight home to KC from Orlando from late Wednesday night to earlier Wednesday- think that would get out ok? Also think they will have MNSSHP Tuesday?
Made the decision tonight from the Wish to move our flight to Tuesday 4:45 versus Wednesday late night or early. Studying models and tropical storm winds could arrive early and we didn't want to risk it if this thing stalls over Tampa like it looks like it could. Any idea if Disney will give us refund or gift card for 1 night list & MNSSHP Tuesday? So sad

Ugh. Supposed to fly in Friday afternoon. I need this thing to move faster. This is going to be a game-time call for me, I think. I'm not scared of rain at WDW, but I need to be able to fly in.

Same here. Got the niece and nephew coming in separate though. 10 pm Friday.

We are flying in from Arizona on Saturday afternoon. Plane supposed to land at 3:15 pm. Wasn't worried last night, but today the projections say that the hurricane will be done 8pm on Thursday. To say I'm stressed out is putting it mildly.

Yes, but the power plants are above ground, including their huge solar farm, so they are vulnerable. I am not saying you will definitely be without power, but it is a possibility so it is important to be as prepared as possible. I also take an LED flashlight and batteries when I go during hurricane season, so I don’t run down the phone battery using it for a light. The bathrooms get very dark when there’s no power . . .

Seems weather won’t be issue, as hurricanes move out quickly, BUT don’t know what happens will all flights once airport reopens

It's going to pick up speed and size as it goes past Cuba. It won't even decide where it's going to come ashore till a few hours before. No matter, we're going to be on the dirty side of the storm. Rain, wind, and tornados. As far as the NHC, keep watchin. Things will get more sure in a few days.

I always thought Disney would be my evacuation plan from my city. I never thought I'd be flying into a hurricane...
My mom still gives us heck for our plans. It was not a decision we made lightly. Irma wasn't projected to be a strong strong hurricane so that did impact our ultimate decision to fly down for it. It was a weird feeling though TBH when you're on a flight with a lot of Red Cross workers and the morning of our flight we had gotten delayed as they had shut down incoming planes for an hour or so to allow departing planes to take off as much as possible with less traffic. And IIRC the plane (we flew a day before the airport shutdown) took a meandering route through the extremely tall clouds. I wish I had taken pictures from the plane but I didn't think to do so at the time. I just remember it being a very interesting sight.

My college roommate and I have had a gal pal trip planned for almost a year, and we are scheduled to fly in to MCO on Wednesday night, and we are booked at Pop from September 28-October 3. Ack! We are not sure what to do? We aren't quite sure when to decide to barrel ahead or reschedule. What will WDW do if we decide to reschedule? How do this work, exactly?
