To bring the topic (somehow) back to budget vacations....

I was watching a few Facebook reels, which I think are videos from TikTok and Instagram reposted onto Facebook, and a travel blogger was talking about budget alternatives to popular vacation destinations. Instead of Hawaii, you should go to Tahiti. LOL since when is Tahiti a budget vacation???

Friends own a package (liquor) store and we stopped by for their Grand Opening
As part of the festivities ... they were offering a tasting

Let me know how the one on the far right tastes! Looks to be orange or mango (on my phone so it's hard to read).

That video made me think of what the OP was initially going for with this thread so I just had to share xD Because a 15k Tahiti vacation totally counts as a budget trip.

Very much like an Arnold Palmer (the cocktail) IPA - it wasn't the worst of the 4

“T-Time” Berliner Weisse is a tart and thirst-quenching wheat beer made with fresh tea and lemon peel. This easy-to-drink summertime refresher will get you back into the swing of things both on and off the course.

If you can use points for the airfare to get to Tahiti, how much do hotels, food and activities cost vs. Hawaii? I could see how they could be comparable or even cheaper.

Truthfully I have no idea. I have never been to Tahiti. I did see that flights from where I am are in the $800-1000 range which is surprising.

I just cannot fathom an island on the other side of the planet being a budget vacation but I'm up for being proven wrong.

Can I go wayyy off topic.......These commericals for title lock, so your house isn't stolen from you. Why is it, that you lose your house and it's not on the bank or whatever that gave the house away?

This thread went wayyy off topic about 103 pages ago :D

But title lock is 99.999999% a scam. First off, if someone actually managed to get the deed to your house and sign it to them, there's a paper trail on who now "owns" the house. So you have someone to target. And if they try to take a loan against your house, again, paper trail. Said loan wouldn't even be in your name, so not your problem. Then you go after whoever stole your house for fraud, and you'd get everything back.

The title company would lose out on a little money, which they'd go after the fruadster to collect.

Where was the video made... New Zealand?

I plugged in some dates in Kayak. Resort hotels are $300+, but AirBnB apartment type places can be had for <$150. So if we are comparing to Hawaii, that's not bad.

Watch out for those cleaning fees!
Hawaii has plenty of fees too, which is how we ended up renting DVC points and staying at Aulani.

OMG right? Hey it will only cost you $300 for 4 nights but we'll charge you $700 in cleaning fees and by the way you need to strip the beds, start the laundry, make sure the dishwasher is full and empty your own trash.

And I wish I were kidding...... :scared:

But is $1000 for 4 nights more expensive than Hawaii? That's the question. Not whether Tahiti is cheap.

I'd say $1K for 4 nights would be cheap for Hawaii for sure.

Are you talking about Airbnb? Because I've had that happen to me when I booked an Airbnb in the Czech Republic. The owner gave me an encyclopedia sized book of rules and chores to do in terms of cleaning the apartment.

Yes! Last fall we were looking for a 2 night getaway on AirBNB. And VRBO. Ended up getting a good deal on a brand new townhouse from hotels.ca of all places. Anyway, I digress lol. One of our picks on AirBNB had a list of "rules" that made my head spin. Now, I'm a reasonable person. But when you have me schlepping my garbage in my own car to the dump 5km away.....no, sorry, I draw the line at that. We made our $$'s do the talking and walked straight away from that listing....

You would've absolutely hated the Airbnb I booked in Urayasu, Japan. The owner had in their rules that we had to clean the apartment head to toe before we left. I remember spending the morning with my friend mopping the floors, taking out the trash and washing the sheets before we left. After that I said never again with Airbnb.

And a cleaning fee on top of that? Oy.....yeah once burned right?
