Marathon Weekend 2024

I like them all. Here are some quick first thoughts:

  • Love the Chip & Dale 10k medal
  • 5k & 1/2 medals are fine. Good looking, nothing special
  • Really like the marathon medal, probably 2nd after the 10k
  • Goofy is not outlandish and out of place in the set, as often seems to happen
  • It seems odd that there's no mention of the component distances making up Goofy and Dopey, just the overall mileage
  • The Dopey medal is fine. It's attractive, but it seems super simplified, like they ran out of ideas. They generally try to make the Dopey medal extra special and it looks like this year they just didn't.

I like the medals other than Dopey. It looks cheap compared to the rest. I'm just getting the half and I like that one.

Right now just one but I read somewhere on the site they are exploring the possibility of both for future races.

I ran it last year and really enjoyed it. Course is mostly flat, ends at the art museum so it does have the hill up Kelly Dr at the end. About 5ish miles through the city and then an out and back on Kelly drive.
I ran it as the ING Distance Classic and then again as the Rock N Roll Philadelphia and love the course. Whenever I'm in Phily I run that river trail.

It's funny, it's like we're almost the opposite. I like the 5k and 1/2 for its simplicity. I think the other ones are a bit overdone, with the Goofy being rather outlandish.

I like the 5k and the 1/2 medals. They're actually letting the metal shine on the medal!

That Goofy medal is way too busy

And is Dopey glowing?

I think you identified the main reason why I really like the Half and 5k medals - they remind me of earlier years of runDisney where they were less colorful overall and showed more of the metal part of the medal.

Also, Pluto on the 5k is just adorable.

Variety is the spice of life! We may be using "outlandish" differently, too. The Goofy medal is definitely quite busy. What I was thinking of, though, is in years past the Goofy medal looked totally out of place in the overall set. The two that come most readily to mind are the year that all the medals were basically round and Goofy was a parallelogram shape and last year with the unfortunate attempt to emulate the mini blind sunglasses of the early 90s that just didn't come off well.

The 5k, HM, and Goofy are great, particularly the 5k. I like the nods to the park icons in the Goofy. I'm not a huge fan of the 10k and Dopey seems too flat.

Overall not bad. Looking forward to the C2C the most :)
My daughter and I LOVE the HM medal! The purple 13.1 really pops. The marathon medal looks like an homage to Germany with its color scheme.

These are pretty solid. I hope that Dopey has some neat feature or something otherwise it kind of pales in comparison to the Goofy imo.

Also does this mean we're a week out from DL medals and the C2C reveal?
We *should* be a week out, and we also have to get final news on everything with Springtime Surprise. The latter takes priority with registration starting next week, we’ll see about the former. Honestly it felt pretty early to get this reveal, I was expecting it after SS registration.

I signed up for the 10k because I like that distance, but Chip and Dale are my favorites, so I'm so excited to get that medal. :)

SAFD: I'm running a 5k at the end of September (Margaritaville 5k). It will be my first timed 5k so I'll PR it, but I'm trying to get under 40 minutes. My speed workouts have been kicking my ***, it's SO hot and humid that I've had to do several of them on the treadmill. I have my longest run so far this Friday (8 miles) and have been debating whether to do it outside or on the treadmill. Outside will be a lot more tolerable mentally, but physically the treadmill will be easier. If I do it on the treadmill, I can watch Red, White, and Royal Blue which drops on Amazon Prime the same day! (I'm currently working my way through Good Omens.)
