Almost ZERO Studio availability into January for ALL WDW DVC?

Maybe I'm looking at DVC booking calendars incorrectly. But I'm beginning to think that soon 7-mo & even 11-mo availability becomes a problem... Is it possible more points are being sold, even with new resorts coming, that aren't enough to meet demand? Or more DVC cash sales being accepted & DVC owners having less access?

January is only 4 months away, not 7 so no correlations there to be gained. 11 months? Still pretty much the same times are issues as they have been for many many years. I would say that slowly people are learning how to better use their DVC and are booking earlier though. Plus DVC has been working on point reallocations and it seems like that's starting to show up. And Disney has added things thru out the calendar year like Festival of the Arts at Epcot Jan/Feb. There is very little time that is down time anymore.

Very true... That's my point. With 'down time' decreasing, 7-mos is becoming close to last good chance for a studio during most seasons/festivals...and that's becoming year-round. 🎃👽🎅🍁 🌷🍃🍻🍾😍

I was looking for the first week of Jan recently and there was no room at any DVC resort that had more than two consecutive nights, and many didn’t have even one room of any type available. 😵‍💫

January is 4 months out, not 7. January is a busy month. There's Festival of the Arts and you have the marathon weekend, plus many people take off after the holidays.

There was a ton of availability for January three months ago. As for 11 months, because of home resort priority there's no competition there (unless you happen to own at GC).

Cash sales? DVC doesn't get access to breakage inventory until 60 days before a use year ends.

DVC inventory is not for those who want to book close in. That's what cash rates and the Swolphin are for....

We had a last minute cancellation affect us, and now are spending two nights in VB because that is what is available.

DVC can forcsr breakage and take it sooner than 60 days.

It also has nothing to do with UY…just check in date. The breakage period is simply a rolling 60 days from the current date.

Right now, the breakage period is Sept 12th to November 11th…if I did the math correct…which means any room still not booked can be booked for cash….sometimes though, DVC can recall them back for members if they are not yet booked.

Actually VGC is no less typical for 11 month bookings than any DVC DL has its holidays/events that differ from WDW but like some weeks at WDW those are the main times you might be in competition right when booking opens.

Yes, WDW has done a lot of changes to spread out or increase the demand at slow times. F&G and F&W are now like 6 months each. And DVC finally tackled the point charts after not for so many years. Times have changed but it's probably operating more like it always should have been.

I booked a January marathon studio at 7 months. You are booking 4 months out.
Thx. I am not booking at all. I simply took a look at forward availability now thru Jan to get a feel for whether Studios are becoming more of a challenge than I was accustomed to back in the day. 7-mo was always an advantage-now maybe becoming more of a necessity, especially for full-week stays. I wondered whether cash sales was creating part of the crunch. That's all.

If you are interested in 7 month availability, then look 7 months out, which is surprisingly open.

Of course a peak time is booked at 4 months, that's not new.

Cash doesn't have access to this inventory at 7 or 4 months, but DVC can and does use all the points it is sitting on and can't sell. Maybe more of those than usual... Other than that, none of this is new. I'd argue VGF2 made studios better.

OHHHH! Ok. Thx. That's exactly what I was looking for. So essentially, those 60 days do limit inventory & end up working against owner availability. I understand it was always that way, but it has a bigger impact now, maybe with increased # of owners competing & cash sales being more beneficial for non-owners & lucrative for DVC.

Thx again. That's helpful. But I'm not booking now. I did check a few resorts I prefer for when my 7-mo begins in case I decide to book & there are already no Studios at those for full wks. And yes, I do know I can stay where ever the availability is & I do waitlist as needed.

We’re not meant to discuss precise availability but I’m a bit confused about what you’re seeing. 7 months out is 12th April and I can see 7 WDW resorts with studios for a full week. You said you’re looking further out than that but there are even more available at 8 months. At 9 months there is something at every WDW resort.

I’m not sure if you’re only looking for very high demand rooms, like the AKV value studios, but these are always tricky, even for owners. BCV is one that’s always easy for owners but hard for studios at 7 months.

Your original comment says you might be looking at the booking calendars incorrectly, which makes me wonder what you’re looking at?

Yes... I'm looking at my 7mo outlook. My dates are fairly set & not all of my preferences are wide open already so they are likely to be less available when I can book. I fixed my looooong Home Resort ressie at 11 mo & began to research 7 mo options at others looking ahead...I'll be in the bubble for a long stay in any event. But thx for your help...ALWAYS a possibility I'm doing something wrong :flower1:
