Mickey Head Balloons Question....

THIS. After reading this thread, I'll buy a balloon next year because I want to--because this year has taught me that time is precious. Even adults can appreciate magic, so I think I'll explain my intentions to the DD's and we will gift it to someone, be it an adult or child.

Good for you. We are all validating each other. Refreshing to know we are not alone. It's amazing how many adult have that magical feeling about that one mere balloon!

I'm so happy I stumbled upon this thread! We are getting married just off property next month and I was really hoping for some Mickey balloons. Originally our plans were to visit Epcot the day before the wedding, so I had looked into having the balloons delivered to our room at the Dolphin... but I was struggling because I was going to have to spend $40 on a basket or tray that I didn't want to get balloons! And now the classic Mickey balloons aren't even on the gift site. But now we're going to MK the day before, and I now know I can get some at the end of the night and they'll be fine for the next day! I was worried they'd deflate overnight like normal balloons. Should have known, Disney magic! Now instead of spending $40 on something I don't want, I could spend it on more balloons :)

Do all of the balloons come with weights?

Hope you have a magical wedding and marriage! Post pics!

I was there last year and paid $16 for one (cash only!) - we were lucky to have a stroller to tie it to. I definitely saw them at night but they were the ones that light up and not sure if they were more $. I say go for it and totally agree that there is something special about those balloons.

Thank you braveNYC!

I had a Disney florist gift delivered to my room and I added the mickey head balloons, it made me very happy (I was 47 at the time). I love balloons. That being said I wouldn't walk around with one but if I was you I'd buy one and let it bounce around your room! I've seen them at the evening parade so you should be able to get one late.

Thanks bookgirl!

I feel so validated by these posts! I wanted one of those balloons on my very first trip Dec. 1971. My parents wouldn't get one. My Dad wanted very badly to get me one but there was no way to keep it in the parks - such a hassle. In all the years I've been going to WDW, I still haven't purchased the balloon. I've even told my Husband the balloon story every time we go to the parks. He offers to buy one for me but I decline because - well, like Dad said - what a pain they are. Taking my Grandbabies in April 2018 and I'm buying them balloons!!!! I don't care how much they cost. I have a feeling it will be worth every penny and my Dad will be smiling down on us from heaven as we skip through the MK with our Mickey balloon.

You are validating me as well. Love your story and the stories of the others.
That child still exists... that child who is 28 or 42 or 57 or 69... and still in wonderment over that balloon. We still want it... and we should STILL get it. We are never too old!
Thanks for sharing. Yes, believe your Dad will be smiling down on you as well! ENJOY!

My parents wouldn't buy us them when we were younger. So now as an "adult" lol (I will never grow up), I have gotten one twice. One time we went and had Mickey sign them, it was pretty cool! He made a big deal about it. I deflated that one and brought it home. On the other trip where I got one, we paid it forward and gave it away.

We stay at AKL this trip and I have heard mixed reviews of if they are allowed.

Thank you PKLTM! Great Pic.

This is Laura's mom writing in lieu of Laura's Dad. I have always wanted one of those balloons to keep in our room. I love to decorate the room while we are there. I plan to purchase one at MNSSHP this year and then take it home and give it to the daughter of a friend. Can hardly stand the wait!!!! Super excited!!!!!

Absolutely get the balloon! I completely understand the excitement. I love Mickey balloons. They are such an iconic part of the park. The last time we were there, I posed my daughter on Main St. with her hand out and made it look like she was holding a bunch of balloons. I didn't realize they would actually let you hold them! That is now on my bucket list for next time! I also remember on our last trip on the fifth day finally having a photographer that was setting us up for the Mickey ballon magic shot. I was sooooooo excited while he was taking those pics because I knew what he was doing. I love those pics!

I got two balloons last week! The regular one is $12 and the one that lights up is $15. There is also a special light up one with a different design that I only saw them sell during MNSSHP.

According to the CM selling them on main street, they stop selling them once the park closes (which would explain why I previously never managed to buy a balloon as I usually only get to main street on my way out after the park closes).

I was thinking of passing them on to another family but by the time I remembered it was around 2am and I was checking out at 4am (was in a rush as leaving before the hurricane) so I deflated them and brought them home. Wondering if I should try to see if I can inflate them now...

Do it! They are the best balloons! I got one when we went this past Spring! I have little kids and we bought it on our way out of the park and just tied it onto the stroller. I wanted one so badly and decided to treat myself. The kids knew it was Mommy's balloon. Haha! But they all played with it. I was going to try to deflate it to bring it home on the plane, but right before we did, the cleaner for the house we rented arrived and had her little girl with her. She didn't speak English, but she understood when I offered it to her and was very happy to get it.

We bought one when DD was 3. Of course, she won't remember (she is 9 now.) I loved tying it to the stroller!

Kids are too old for a stroller now (6 and 9) but after reading this post, I am thinking we have to buy them balloons this upcoming trip so they don't grow up and as adults are in this predicament of longing for one because they never were allowed to get one!

Do all of the balloons come with weights?

Yes. 2 sturdy plastic Mickey heads. Also, DHS and Disney Springs both have balloon sellers. Not Epcot though...not sure why.

When we first started going to WDW, my DD asked for a balloon. I love balloons and was tempted, but could not stomach the insane pricetag.

Fast forward to this year when I brought my 3 yr old niece. My kids are teens now, but my DD still longed for a balloon. Of course, since it's for my niece, the cost didn't matter to me in the least (I'm going to be a dangerous grandma someday). I wanted to buy a light up one, but those are only sold after dark and there is no way to get one. You can pay by magic band/credit card - but only with the balloon seller in front of the silhouette cart. First day I tried to buy one I couldn;t as the machine was down and I had no cash. I was sooo disappointed lol! The next time we were back in MK, I was prepared and determined haha!

My DD and I saw the balloon sellers and didn't even wait to get my niece - we grabbed a balloon ASAP! Then I asked a Photopass photographer stationed nearby to capture the moment....

The balloon was beautiful. And seemed to last forever. I've heard reports of their lasting a month! We took it to the parks daily (Except AK days where it stayed in the room). We slipped the Mickey weights into the bottom of her stroller (tied it the first day and never made that mistake again - what a hassle to take it off to fold up the stroller!). It never even tried to run away lol. My niece loved her balloon. A little over a week in, the inner blue balloon suddenly popped loudly. Thankfully, we were in MK that day (watching the Friendship Faire at the Castle!) so it was easy to walk over to get a replacement.

Right at the end of our 2 week trip, something else happened (can't remember what) and we got yet another free replacement for the balloon. On our last day, we were in Disney Springs so put my teens in charge of finding a family with a little kid to pass the balloon on to. I instructed them to focus on kids in strollers. It turned out to be the kid's birthday and the mom was very appreciative.

We LOVED our Mickey balloon and we sure got our money's worth out of it!!

Picked these up for $12 each on our way out of MK the night before our wedding. Gave them to two little girls at the boat dock this morning who were on the first day of their first trip. 6 days old and still perfect!
