Fantasmic Blue Bayou Package- I'm confused

Because it's spring break some crowd predictions expect it to be busier during the week and less busy Saturday/Sunday. I know when we have gone during spring break before we have run into entire schools, particularly on Friday. It's really a guess though.

Thank you for all of your replies and the cool video which my kids and I watched! I think we will go for the Fantasmic viewing and then stay for the fireworks right there. Perfect! PHXscuba, you make a good point about the weekday but I'm hoping since it's spring break for many (including us) that they will show it on Thursday. I can change my dates to be in Disneyland to Friday and Saturday instead of Wednesday and Thursday but I was hoping that the weekdays would mean a bit lower crowds. Any thoughts on that? I can move my hotel reservations around still. Thanks!

Unfortunately the park hours and entertainment schedule don't go up until about 6 weeks beforehand. The tiny advantage is that you can book dining 60 days out, so you *should* know whether it will be showing that night by whether you can book a Fantasmic dining package around the first week of February. But don't panic if it's not right there at 60 days -- sometimes it takes them a couple days to load into the system.

Late-posting park hours is one of my least favorite things about Disneyland compared to WDW.

Yes, but...

WDW posts their hours 6 months out and then as it gets closer to the actual date they (usually) change them. DLR could easily do the same but is there that big of a difference?

DLR = post hours 6 weeks in advance and then almost always stick with them
WDW = post hours 6 months in advance and then regularly change them 6 weeks in advance

Disneyland park hours vary so much more (by day/week/month)that it's hard to predict what a trip's hours might look like at the point I might book airfare, hotel, tours, etc. And some of their special events are announced much later than WDW's.
For example:
onsite is more valuable if it has EMH hours I could use (7 a.m. is HARD)
which days should book my hotel at DLR vs. near other SoCal attractions if I want to see Fantasmic (like the OP)
when will the Christmas season even begin if I want to see the decorations or ride overlays

WDW might change hours closer to the time, but I am under the impression that they almost always add hours and/or entertainment, which would be a bonus but I wouldn't change big parts of my trip because of it. And more pieces of it don't change as often, i.e. Epcot runs 9-9 most days of the year.

I don't love some things about the 6-months-out mindset, but I think Disneyland should push it out at least a little as they seek to be a resort destination instead of a locals' park. Even other SoCal parks seem to be able to post hours sooner -- Universal Studios Hollywood, Knott's Berry Farm, and Six Flags Magic Mountain all have park hours posted through the end of 2018. Meanwhile, if I wanted to go to DLR over my kids' spring break in March, the park hours aren't even posted past March 1.

Just wanted to update. I called today to make my Fantasmic package at Blue Bayou reservation. I made a 6:10pm reservation for the 9pm Fantasmic show. They will be having a 9pm and 10:30pm show on Thursday, April 5th. She also said there is fireworks that night at 9:30pm. We are going to do the Fantasmic show and then stay in our seats for fireworks as suggested. Thanks for the help!

We have 5:50 reservations at BB on this same night. Glad to know that fireworks will be happening that night too! We will probably stay in our seats as well! Now I just need Disney to load the reservations for the World of Color dessert parties that week, and I'll be all set!!

Me too! But we are going to do the lunch instead of the dessert party. I feel like that's so expensive for desserts and a front row seat!

So if you do the lunch package, you are then carrying around a cushion for the rest of the day?

Also, how far in advance can you book this?

Yes, some people get lockers and store it there, some people store it on the strollers if they have them, some people just carry them. Its not that large, you can ask in a shop for a bag.

Dining Reservations open at 60 days. As this is a popular dining package, its advisable to book no less than 50 days if you want a specific time on a specific date. Also be advise most tables in Blue Bayou are 4 top so its easier to book multiple of 2 than for example 5 people using the online booking system. For odd numbers or large groups I would call Disneyland instead of using the online booking system.

I thought I read that they started giving out the cushions when you came back to enter the viewing area....

Interesting. They gave us our cushions as we left Blue Bayou and they didn't have any that I saw in the viewing area. But this was in August so maybe they switched things up. I'm just sad Fantasmic will be down for the news couple of months with the Columbia going down for a rehab.

Really hoping World of Color comes back soon because not having a big nighttime show in either park takes a bit of the magic away.

In December I did the lunch and was told I could come back later for the cushion, but I took it with me.

We were handed cushions after lunch this past Friday (January 18). We happened to get a locker that day to store jackets and costumes for DD's many wardrobe changes, so we put the cushions in there.

DH was extremely disappointed that CMs told us to dispose of the cushions if we didn't want to keep them. (There is no reason to fly three cushions back to Michigan.) He was hoping they would be washable and re-usable.
