    slo’s THURSDAY 4/11 poll - Ice

I keep most drinks in the garage fridge and prefer sodas/beer/seltzer/juice etc. cold but un-iced. In the summer I drink a lot of iced tea, so then I use it. It takes effort even though we have an ice maker, because the ice gets an off taste really quickly--one that only I seem to notice, but...

At What Age Do You Not Replace a Dog?

I think it's all up to you, but if you do get a dog, be sure you have contingency plans. Also, be aware that your ability to handle larger or energetic dogs could fade. That happened to my dad, who is 84. He has a boistrous golden lab that he can't handle and can no longer walk. A neighbor...

Would you ever go on a Disney Cruise?

Nope. I'd rather go on either a cheaper cruise (mass market) or a more posh one (bucket list luxury cruise). I'm only open to cruising in cold areas like Alaska, the arctic, Canada, etc. I also want as close to zero kids on the ship as possible, which rules out Disney.

    What’s for Dinner Tonight?

Pad Thai. I'm taking 10 before actually cooking it, but everything is prepped. I think I need an outdoor kitchen. I cook a lot of dishes that don't smell so great while being made, and this is one of them. Our house smells like fish sauce right now. :scared: We're having cobb salad...

What's one thing you do in your adult home that your parents didnt in your childhood home ?

Lol at the AC and pot--that's my house as well. Also air purifiers on hand for the incredibly terrible forest fire smoke we get about every other year.

    slo’s FRIDAY 3/22 poll - Seafood Tacos 🌮

I love seafood tacos. I make shrimp ones at home, but since I prefer the fish ones to be battered and deep fried, it's mostly a restaurant/food truck food for me. I do some deep frying at home, but try to limit it. My daughter's best friend makes weeknight fish tacos using premade tortillas...

    homemade cornded beef without nitrate

Cinnamon sticks are in the pickling spice used in the brine. I made a salt rubbed instead of brined in liquid corned beef many many years ago. It was a Julia Child recipe, possibly in The Way to Cook. It didn't have pink salt, or else it was optional. I remember we thought it was only okay...

What are you planning to do for St. Patrick's Day?

A bunch of us are going to see an afternoon concert, then out to a tapas restaurant. That's on St Patrick's Day, but not for it. For it, I've been corning some beef for the past several days. I'll cook it, but not with cabbage. I just like to have it for ruebens and corned beef hash.

Wow - Thoughts on AI's Rapid Expansion into our Real Lives

Yikes! I had no idea it was used for interviewing already! That's harmful, I think, in the thousand papercuts type of way. Everyplace AI replaces a human, there's a chance it's cutting off interpersonal relationships and communication. Yuck. I was thinking of something more in the future...

Wow - Thoughts on AI's Rapid Expansion into our Real Lives

I am not for it. I know we can't put the worms back in the can, but I wish we could. I can easily imagine AI being very harmful to people in the future.

    If, for insomnia...

Frequent Benadryl use possibly increases risk of dementia, so it might not be that benign for some kinds of Antihistamines. I tried smoking weed before bed for a while (legal where I am). It helps me fall asleep, but doesn't help me stay asleep, so I quit using it as a sleep aid. Now I listen...

    slo’s WEDNESDAY 3/6 poll - Phone Tracking 📲

I only used it once, in 2016 when I drove to NYC. My now-husband tracked me on my drive, partly to see where I was out of curiousity, and partly for some sense of safety. When I got to NYC, we ended the tracking.

NY metro area vs Los Angeles metro area, which reigns supreme?

I don't know how it is now, but prepandemic nyc was awesome. I parked my car in Connecticut to save money. Public transportation was really easy to use and much faster than taking surface streets. I've never lived in LA, but I've been many times and lived in Orange County. Of the two, both are...

OPINION? Princess vs NCL for Alaska.

I think it matters most if you want to go to Glacier Bay. HAL and Princess have most of the passes for that. Some NCL cruises do to (or at least they did when my BIL and fam went on an Alaskan cruise.)
