Hi!

Like everyone else here, every time I plan a trip to Disney, I cross my fingers that I get super lucky and my family has all the parks to ourselves. Sadly, in 25+ trips, that has yet to happen.

Next year, I am somewhat forced to go at a busy time of year as my niece will be dancing in a show and marching in the MK parade the following day, April 1 - 2. While researching if it would be best to go the week before or week after April 1 -2, I started thinking about other states vacation weeks. I googled, only to come up with nothing.

Im hoping here we can get a list together and it will be helpful to other families planning their vacation.

Please let me know your state's school vacation weeks and I will add them to this top post for everyone to see. I will fill in my state, Massachusetts, below. This is for public schools. I understand this wont be perfect, but hopefully it will hit upon some big weeks. Thanks in advance

Hi, I'm from NH so here are our vacation/holiday breaks for 2016/2017

Christmas break: December 26 to January 2
Winter break: February 27 to March 3
Spring Vacation: April 24-April 28
Last day of school: June 14

Most colleges are:

Christmas break: December 26 to January 2
Spring break: March 11 to March 17

Thanks for starting this thread, I'm kind of interested to see the variations from state to state! :)

Do you also want to include the Canadian provinces to your list? I can give you the ones for Quebec (Montreal region) if you're interested.

Louisiana (should be pretty much the same across the state)

September 5, 2016 Labor Day
October 10 and 11, 2016 Fall Break
November 8, 2016 Election Day
November 21-25, 2016 Thanksgiving Holidays
December 22, 2016-January 4, 2017 Christmas Holidays
January 16, 2017 Martin Luther King, Jr’s Birthday
February 27-28 & March 1, 2017 Mardi Gras
April 13-21, 2017 Easter Holidays

We definitely have some variations across our districts. Not every district gets off for Mardi Gras, for instance.

For the province of Quebec (Montreal area but most of it will also apply to the rest of the province):

Canadian Thanksgivings (October 10): we usually get the Friday (Oct 7 2016) and Monday off (Oct 10 2016)
Christmas Holidays: off two weeks (December 24 2016 -January 10 2017)
Spring break: March 4-March 12 2017
Easter: they have Good Friday (April 14 2017) and Easter Monday (April 17 2017) off
Victoria Day: May 22 2017
Last day of school is June 22 2017

Most Maine public schools also have February vacation -- for 2017 that would be 2/20-24.
My daughter's school, Bar Harbor ME also has the entire week of Thanksgiving off from school. Other schools in the same district do not. It's quite confusing though I do applaud your intent.

In California it's by school district, so it can vary especially with Easter late this year. Generally in Los Angeles, the public schools get the week before Easter off with the Catholic schools taking the week after Easter off, but this is hardly consistent even throughout Los Angeles County.

Are you just concerned about spring break? Here in Georgia spring break April 3-7 but they also get Fall break October 17-21 and winter break feb 20-24 along with thanksgiving week and Christmas break

Texas also varies by school district. We're in Deer Park south east of Houston. Christmas break is Dec17- Jan 2, Spring Break is March 11-19. Last day of school is May 26th.

I think that Maryland might vary by county for spring break as the start date in August has always varied by county in the past. My county has always moved with Easter - either before or after depending on how early or late it falls. For 2017 my particular county has April 7th as a "professional day" and then spring break week is officially April 10 - 14 and Mon, April 17th (Easter Monday). They will get the week off between Christmas and New Years & return on Jan 2nd. We do not get that February break nor that Fall break that some other school districts get. We only get off a "half day" on the Wed. preceeding Thanksgiving and then of course Thurs & Fri that week but do not get the entire week off which I know a lot of other districts get the whole week. My particular county also has off for the 2 Jewish holidays in the fall - but not all counties in MD do that.

However just a programming note - the current govenor of MD just signed something last week that will change the school calendar state-wide so that the entire state will not start back until AFTER Labor Day - and has to end by June 15th. There will probably be a lot of counties applying for exemptions as a lot of them currently start the last week in August and still go to mid-June as it was already - late June even if there were snow make-up days. There's always been a lot of extra "professional days" and the thought is that they will now cut some of the holidays in order to hit this new calendar (MLK, Pres. Day, some of spring break week etc because the teachers have demanded they have these "professional days" and would rather give up other holidays than these days.) I don't think there's a clear answer beyond this next year.

Also to note - My DS's (private) college in Western New York has spring break next year from March 11th-19th. I think colleges follow a "rolling spring break" throughout the spring.

Missouri:
Winter Break 2016 - December 22 to January 4 (Springfield and St Louis), December 19 to January 3 (Kansas City)
Spring Break 2017 - March 13 to 17 (Springfield and Kansas City), March 20 to 24 (St Louis)
Current Last Day of School 2017 - May 18 (Springfield), May 25 (St Louis), May 26 (Kansas City)
