Has anyone in a position of returning with a positive test and a solid quarantine plan actually had to pay this fine? We're planning a fall trip and would like to plan for all possibilities.

I have had friends return covid positive. Basc the plan was they returned home and someone checked in with them. Your plan should be to return home immediately. However, you can access if your plan is viable here if you scroll down: https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/t...ovid-19-testing-travellers-coming-into-canada . You can input your plan and see if it qualifies.

A lot of this does not apply to fully vaccinated Canadians as it says:
If you don't qualify as fully vaccinated and are allowed to enter Canada, use these instructions for yourself and accompanying unvaccinated children to meet testing, ArriveCAN and quarantine requirements.

If you expect to qualify or have qualified at the border as fully vaccinated, these instructions are not for you

Planning your 14 day quarantine

You must demonstrate that you have a suitable plan for quarantine for 14 days. You’re expected to make these plans, within your own means, before travelling to Canada. Your quarantine plan must be entered into ArriveCAN.

Assess your quarantine plan
You'll need to confirm you have a suitable place to quarantine where you:

  • can stay for 14 days or possibly longer
  • have access to the necessities of life, including water, food, medication and heat without leaving quarantine
  • can avoid contact with others who did not travel with you
  • can avoid vulnerable persons or persons who provide care to vulnerable persons, (e.g., health care providers), unless the vulnerable person is a consenting adult or the parent, step-parent or dependent child;
  • have no visits from family or guests
You can't quarantine in group living environments, such as:

  • a small apartment you share with others
  • a shared household with a large family or families or many people
  • a shelter, group home, group residence, hostels, industrial camps, construction trailers or other group setting
  • a student residence (unless you’ve received prior authorization)
  • shared living spaces with housemates who haven’t travelled with you that you cannot avoid interacting with

Starting your quarantine period

Your quarantine period begins on the day that you arrive in Canada.

For example, if you arrive at 8:15 am on Thursday, October 1, then Thursday is considered day 1 of your quarantine period. Your quarantine period would end 14 full days later, at 11:59 pm on Wednesday, October 14.

Getting to your place of quarantine

Report that you've arrived at your place of quarantine

The day after you arrive in Canada, whether you travel by air, land or marine, you must use ArriveCAN to:

  • confirm that you’ve arrived at the address you provided for your quarantine or isolation location
  • complete daily COVID-19 symptom self-assessments until the completion of your quarantine period or until you report symptoms
Report via ArriveCAN or phone

How to quarantine

While in quarantine:

  • Do not leave your place of quarantine unless it is for a medical emergency, an essential medical service or treatment, to obtain a COVID-19 test, or it is pre-authorized by a Quarantine Officer
  • Use only private outdoor spaces (i.e. balcony)
  • Do not have any visits from friends, family or other guests
  • Do not use shared spaces such as lobbies, courtyards, restaurants, gyms or pools

The Government of Canada uses the information you provided in ArriveCAN to verify that you:

  • arrived at your place of quarantine
  • are providing daily symptom reports
You will receive live or automated calls. You must answer calls from 1-888-336-7735 and answer all questions truthfully to demonstrate your compliance with the law.

You will receive email reminders of your quarantine requirements.
