Since there has been interest from folks on the Forums about what Star Wars Celebration is and how to best prepare for this. I’ve decided to create a thread where Questions about this event will get answered and we can share our excitement.

I have never been to a Star Wars Celebration, but have to been massive conventions such as San Diego Comic Con and New York Comic Con (organized by ReedPop who runs Star Wars Celebration along with Lucasfilm). Also, I have spent a Decade as an Event Runner of Science Fiction and Anime Cons (all of my time with cons in Baltimore/DC). This means I won’t have all of the answers, but will do my best to help people who aren’t usual attendees of a massive Media convention get some ideas of how this works.

The first two posts will be filled with the basic questions about the event and basic tips to enjoy the Celebration. Some of these questions will not be answered until much closer to the Event. Therefore, I would suggest putting this thread on Watch for new information.

Thanks to @The Sunrise Student and @doombuggy for the additional information to give additional information from past Celebrations.

Here’s answers to the questions we know as of April 6th (with some speculation) as well:

When/Where is Star Wars Celebration?

It is Thursday April 13th-Sunday April 16th, 2017 at the Orange County Convention Center on International Drive. According to The Orange County Convention Center website, we are confirmed to use all of the West Exhibit Halls. Here's the layout of the West Concourse: https://www.occc.net/pdf/MM_FloorPlans.pdf. Look at pages 4-11

What is Star Wars Celebration?

It is a convention run by Lucasfilm and ReedPop that brings over 50,000 people to various cities around the world to celebrate Star Wars yearly. It has costume contests, panel tracks covering everything in the Star Wars universe, Exhibitors from LucasFilm, Disney and related companies with Merchandise to buy and see, Guests from all over the universe will appear. There will be tons of Star Wars fans in beautiful, sublime and unusual costumes. You will see everything from Rey to Jar Jar Binks costumes there. There’s also Kids programming and much more that hasn’t been announced yet. The Full website with information is http://www.starwarscelebration.com/Orlando/Home/

Who will the Guests there?

Guests Announced so far include Mark Hamill (Luke from IV-VII), Warwick Davis (Ewok from ROTJ and in Harry Potter films.), Hayden Christiansen (Anakin Sywalker from Prequel Trilogy), Ian McDiarmid (Emperor Palpatine), Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett in the original trilogy), Taylor Gray (Ezra from Rebels), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca from TFA and Original Trilogy), Ray Park (Darth Maul from Phantom menace), Alan Tudyk (K2-SO from Rogue One), Vanessa Marshall (Hera from Star Wars Rebels, Sarah Michelle Geller (Buffy from Buffy TV Series/Seventh Sister from Rebels), Freddie Prince Jr. (Kanan from Rebels). Billy Dee Williams (Lando from Original Trilogy), Anthony Daniels (C3PO from all of the movies), Riz Ahmed (Bodhi Rook from Rogue One) and Felicity Jones (Jyn Erso from Rogue one). Full Guest List is at: http://www.starwarscelebration.com/Guests/

Who is Exhibiting there?

Companies such as Mattel, Funko, Hasbro and Disney Theme parks Merchandise will be there. Here's a link to the Exhibitor list that is growing by the day: http://www.starwarscelebration.com/Star-Wars-Celebration-2017/Companies/Exhibitors/

When do Tickets go On Sale?

Tickets are now on Sale. Go to this page to buy: http://www.starwarscelebration.com/Orlando/Buy-Tickets/

How much are tickets?

Tickets prices depend on when you buy. There is a significant Pre-buy Discount (meaning up 4/12/2017 at Noon ET you can buy tickets at that price). Day passes are $65 for Thursday, Friday and Sunday/$75 for Saturday for Adults and $35 on all Days for Kids. At the show passes are $75 to $85 for adults and $43 for Kids. Full weekend passes are $150 for adults/$70 for kids before the show and $170 for adults/$85 for kids at the show.

Are tickets to the event refundable?

They are Non-refundable, Non-resellable and Non-Transferrable. Also, Don't buy them through EBay or Craigslist. They are probably scalpers tickets or worst still will not be honored by Lucasfilm/ReedPop at the con.

Will this event Sell out?

I expect this to Sell Out on some days because this is the first time this event has been on the East Coast/Midwest since 2012. This means it’s easily accessible to over 150 million folks and millions of Star Wars fans. I think we will see Full Weekends, All VIPS and probably Friday and Saturday sold out. We may not sell out all tickets especially Thursday and Sunday. We are also seeing a massive increase in interest from Force Awakens.

VIPs sold out in about 15 minutes on May 25th. Four days sold out on December 22nd. Saturday only passes sold out on April 6th. Thursday, Friday and Sunday passes are still available, but will possibly all sell out before the show.

Will there be discounted Hotel Rooms?

Yes, They are available now. http://www.starwarscelebration.com/Orlando/Hotel/?campaignid=61911744&iusercampaignid=91950722 for availability and pricing. There is still rooms available and they are adding rooms. Two beds are the hardest to find. Keep Checking for two beds in the room as this will change alot. You have until April 4th to book your rooms.

What are the best Hotels to stay at?

There are five hotels that are on the site or really close and all of these should be able to be booked in the block. Three hotels are attached via Walkway to the Convention Center are the Rosen Plaza (http://www.rosenplaza.com/), Hyatt Regency Orlando (http://orlando.regency.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html) and Rosen Centre Hotel (http://www.rosencentre.com/). These hotels are not attached to the convention center, but are across the street or within two tenths of the convention center: Hilton Orlando (http://www.thehiltonorlando.com/) and Rosen Shingle Creek (http://www.rosenshinglecreek.com/). Farther away hotels will probably have shuttles to the Convention Center. More shuttle information will be posted at a later date.

Will you be able to park during the convention?

There will be parking at the Convention Center, but it will be limited. It is $15.00 before 5 PM and $10.00 after 5 PM. http://www.occc.net/attendee/Parking.asp for more information about Parking. Be prepared to park early because a lot of folks who attend are locals, prefer to drive over Mass transit or staying outside the room block. My opinion is to leave the car behind and take either the I-Ride Trolley, walk or convention shuttle depending where you are.

These are the bare basics about getting to Star Wars Celebration. Next, we will talk about the questions related to after you get into the convention center itself.

For the second part of A DISer Guide to Star Wars Celebration, we talk about what you can do in the show itself and how to make the most out of it. This will be in a similar set up to the other part of the guide where it is in a Q and A format.

How would I get my Badge?

If you buy your Badge by March 22, 2017 and live in the US, you badge will be mailed to you. If your order after that in the US, you will need to pick up at the show. If you are international, you will be able to either have it sent to you UPS or pick up at the show.

Note: Tickets are starting to get mailed out to folks who bought through the official ticket provider.

What are the show hours going to be?

We are confirmed 10 am-7 PM Thursday, 10 AM-7 PM Friday, 10 AM-7 PM Saturday, 10 AM-5 PM Sunday for the Exhibit Hall with evening Programming until 10 PM on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Where will everything be in the Convention Center?

Floor plan is up here: http://www.starwarscelebration.com/...loor-Plans/SWCO17-Floor-Maps.pdf?v=1490195938.

What Programming items will be at Celebration?

Schedules are now up at this link: http://www.starwarscelebration.com/Events/Events-R-Z/Stage-Schedules/
They will get updated over the next couple of weeks.

Autograph schedule is now up. https://www.starwarsauthentics.com/...n=t3Dq6ByL_49fQT0mlXATCwiy9YYpgtnO2yAZmtS-wsE. Photos schedules will be on this link soon as well.

This is to be decided by who the attending guests are. What you can expect to do besides shop are:

-The Last Jedi (Episode VIII) panel will be Friday April 14th. It is announced that Kathleen Kennedy (head of Lucasfilm) and Rian Johnson (The Last Jedi) and other guests will be there.

-Hear about the History of Star Wars with it expected to be the opening panel on Thursday April 13th. Warwick Davis, Kathleen Kennedy and others will be on the panel.

-Rebels Season four Panel with Cast and Dave Filoni on Saturday.

-See Panels with various creators, actors and professionals who are part of the Star Wars Universe. Expect panels on things such as Episode VIII, Han Solo Movie, Rebels, the books and much more. Really dependent on where the movies and shows are in production at the moment.

-Meet the Actor Guests and get Autographs/Pictures with them. More of that in a later question.

-See the largest Star Wars Costume Contest you may ever see.

-An active Child programming track.

-Screenings, Concerts and other TBD events.

How would I find out when/where these events are going to happen?

There will be an online schedule available between 1-3 weeks before Celebration. Link will get posted here much later.

How do I get into the Main Events area for panels?

If Celebration Europe is any indication for Celebration Orlando, it will be by Wristbands. It started at 6 AM local time, but this may change. Keep an eye on the thread for more information. Expect wristbands to be gone by 10 AM Local time.

How would I meet the Guests for an autograph or picture?

There will be areas set up in the Exhibit Hall for this. We won't know where or when they will be until much closer to the event. You will need to pay for any Actors and most creatives (TV/Film creatives espcecially) Autograph/Picture. Film/TV creatives (ex. Dave Filoni from Rebels) may or may not do any autograph/photo sessions. You can start getting autographs/photos pre-ordered at https://www.starwarsauthentics.com/...d=21480&query=&sort=title_asc&pgmode1=catpage.

Expect between $20-200 for an autograph and $30-250 for a picture with the guest. Felicity Jones will cost $200-$250. Multiple Guests will cost for an autograph or picture more than a one day WDW One Park Ticket.

They have announced that Rian Johnson (The Last Jedi Director) will not be doing autographs.

You may have up to four people over three and any Children under three in a Photograph with the actor. All Autograph/Photograph vouchers are non-refundable or transferable.

For authors/comic creators who may be there (ex. Claudia Gray of Bloodline), they will probably be signing for free at their Publishers or own table. Those authors who will attend and the setup will be decided closer to the event. Timothy Zahn (Grand Admiral Thrawn's) creator is the first announced author.

How do I get into Panels/Exhibit Hall/etc?

There may be a queuing process, but that is to be decided. There is more information on this in this post. http://www.starwarscelebration.com/...9&iusercampaignid=96892148#security-screening

There will be wristbands for Celebration and Galaxy Stage Panels. They will be given out starting at 6 AM each morning. You can camp overnight if you want to by following the guidelines below. In my opinion, No panel that is going to be live on your device and shown multiple places is worth camping overnight for.

What is Costuming and What are the rules for Costuming at Celebration?

Costuming is when fans wear outfits of their favorite characters from the Star Wars Saga. There will be many of them around the show. There are rules on costumes. Nudity is not allowed. Think a conservative bikini for women and at least a pair of Swimshorts level of coverage for men. The stronger rules are on Weapons and are due to creating a safe environment. Live weapons will not be allowed. Here's the weapons policy from Celelbration Europe and expect it to be similar: http://www.starwarscelebration.com/Show-Info/Weapons-Policy/

Do I have to Costume at Celebration to enjoy it?

No, You don't have to Costume at Celebration to enjoy it. Some of the greatest joy as a fan I've ever seen is walking around a random corner and seeing an amazing C-3PO costume. Please ask the Costumer if you could please take a picture before taking it. Don't touch a Costumer or Harass any attendee.

Will there be Disabled access measures?

Yes, there will be. There will be elevators to get to the Exhibit Hall Floor for those who are disabled. You may not have to go upstairs for main events/exhibit hall because they are on Street level at the OCCC. They also offer a Medical Badge. If you are going, please read the information on the website before you apply. http://www.starwarscelebration.com/Tickets/Medical-Badges/

Here's some practical help from @lovethattink on the Medical Badges:

Basically you write what accommodations are needed. And based in what you write, they determine if you're eligible. The medical pass is good for the person needing it and one person to accompany them. So my son and I waited in one line and my husband and other son waited in another line. Since there's no seat saving. We often sat far apart.

What are some other tips that you would give to a first time Celebration attendee?

-Bring Cash for Autographs/Merchadise. Many guests/vendors will take Cards, but many take cash only.

-Be prepared to walk as many miles in OCCC as you do in Magic Kingdom (7-10 miles a day).

-Get there before 9 AM or after 10:30 AM. You will spend less time in Security Screenings and queues than during the peak times.

-Choose what you want to focus on. There is so much at Celebration that you must make choices or you may end up crying on the floor from all the running around.

-Bring a Water Bottle. It will get hot.

-Know your limits. If you get tired, find a place to sit and relax.

-Be prepared to be in line a minimum of an hour ahead of time for a panel. Preferribly longer. Will update when we get official information from the show runners.

-Convention Center Food is nearly as expensive as WDW food with quality about as good as Pinocchio Village Haus (not very good). Bring your own food and sodas with you. As long as you hide it, You will not be told to throw it out.

Will there be a Disney Hollywood Studios after hours event?

This is now confirmed for Friday April 14th starting at 7 PM (you get in at 5 PM). Here's the full information and to get your tickets: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/events-tours/hollywood-studios/star-wars-galactic-nights/. It is $129 before local tax and there is an AP discount at $119 each.

Galactic Nights is now sold out.

This is the end of the Q and A on what I would think be the major questions that DISer's would ask before the event. We won't know much until closer to the event, but ask away on questions I may not have thought about before hand.

Thanks for opening this thread, I'll be following along as it will also be my first Celebration

I have only been to very small 1-2 day conventions (1'room for speaker, 1 with vendors) so I am looking forward to any tips given. I'm not even sure at this point if I can get tickets (work loves to change my weekends off, so difficult to know if I will be off), but I will at least be able to share in the excitement for everyone else!
Thanks for starting this!

It's interesting because this will be the same weekend as the Star Wars Dark Side half marathon at Disney World. I was already planning on going for the race so this is a nice little bonus. Anyone know how easy it is to get to the convention center from Disney property?

It is fairly easy if you have a car because your only 10 miles from Disney Property to the Convention Center. I think the Dark Side Half Marathon will either be earlier or later. Run disney knows it's a busy weekend and it wouldn't work logistically especially with rooms starting close to $200 that weekend. In my opinion, it's going to be a weekend like March 24-26 for the Half Marathon.

Hello Gang, Following along...

Little background: I and my Hubby are members of the 501st Legion and we attened SW Celebration Anaheim last year. We also go to Disney World very often and have had the privilage of marching during SWW with the 501st in the SW motorcade.

If I hear any info I will be sure to spread the news.

We have already booked our stay at the contemporary for this rodeo...

Star Wars Dark Side Half Marathon has already been announced by Disney for April 20 through the 23.

We are coming in the weekend before Celebration and leaving the Monday after so we are going to miss this run... of course I haven't run in years soooo.... LOL

Ha! I guess I must have been looking at this year's dates on the website still. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
the RunDisney site still shows this years dates, next years dates were announced in the event guide for the race, along will all the race for next year

My son told me he's buying the 4 day pass for me, so I'll be ready on May 25th to get that. The dates are still school days here in Orlando so I'll end up buying single day tickets for my daughter, does anyone know how fast the tickets sell out? I'm assuming that VIP and multiday tickets would sell out first, with single days being available until closer to the date

My guess VIP's will sell out first and those will sell out anywhere between a few days to a few hours from now. Multi-Days will last for a few months and Single Day Tickets being the last to sell out with Saturday selling out first. Will update availability on the thread as we get announcements.
